Hollywood Has $9 Billion Reasons to Not Blame China for the Coronavirus Pandemic

BY: David Ng, Breitbart, 20 Apr 2020:

Trump-bashing Hollywood figures, from film stars to studio executives, have been conspicuously silent when it comes to China as evidence mounts that Chinese dictators sought to hide the true gravity of the coronavirus outbreak and silence doctors who tried to speak out.

Story continues below advertisement

Take Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista. He’s attacked President Donald Trump for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic. As one of Hollywood’s most prominent anti-Trump voices, Bautista has fired off tweets insulting the commander in chief’s daily press briefings and recently called quarantine protestors “morons” for seeking to re-open state economies.

But the actor has been conspicuously silent when it comes to China — and he along with the rest of the entertainment industry have billions of reasons to stay quiet as more evidence points to actions that China’s dictators sought to hide the true gravity of the coronavirus outbreak and silencing doctors who tried to speak out.

Bautista isn’t the only Marvel actor to attack President Trump over the coronavirus. Captain America star Chris Evans accused the president of running off the stage during a recent press conference without answering questions. “America wants answers,” the actor tweeted in March. But just like his Avengers co-star, Evans has refrained from criticizing China over the pandemic.

As Hollywood continues to shift to ever-more expensive tentpole movie releases, the major studios are relying on Chinese moviegoers to turn a profit. But to gain access to the world’s second largest movie market, they have to first play nice with China’s film officials who control which foreign titles get to play in the country’s more than 60,000 cinemas.

Movie stars looking to find work in Hollywood need only glance at the figures to know that staying quiet about China is good for their careers and their coffers. The Chinese box office has skyrocketed in the past ten years. Officials claim that Chinese cinemas brought in $9.2 billion last year, compared to just $910 million a decade ago.

As the star of four Marvel superhero movies, Dave Bautista stands to gain a lot through Disney’s close ties with Beijing. The last two Avengers movies he appeared in grossed a combined $4.85 billion worldwide — with China accounting for 20 percent of their intake, more than any other territory outside North America.

The two Guardians of the Galaxy movies have grossed a combined $1.64 billion, with China accounting for more than 11 percent of that amount.

Some Hollywood blockbusters now make more money in China than they do domestically, including Universal’s Fast & Furious franchise, whose Hobbs & Shaw grossed 16 percent more in China than in North America. 20th Century’s Alita: Battle Angel also outperformed in China, bringing in 55 percent more than domestically.

Last year, the top 25 top grossing Hollywood movies reaped more than 11 percent of their worldwide box-office revenue from China.

Hollywood’s addiction to China was already an ethical dilemma before the Wuhan coronavirus shut down the global economy.

Last year, former Rep. John Culberson (R-TX) asked the Justice Department to look into Chinese investment in Hollywood, saying that multi-billion dollar acquisitions “allow Chinese state-controlled companies a significant degree of control over the financing and content of American media that raises serious concerns about how this may be used for propaganda purposes.”

China’s Wanda Group owns Legendary Pictures, which produced Jurassic World and Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, and also owns AMC Theatres, the largest cinema chain in the U.S.

“What’s going on here is a strategic play by China that’s flying under the radar,” political analyst Richard Berman told Breitbart News Daily in 2016, adding that China is aiming to influence what Americans see and hear.

During the height of the Hong Kong democracy protests last year, Disney CEO Bob Iger refused to comment on reports that Disney silenced its ESPN reporters by forbidding them to discuss the demonstrations after the Houston Rockets’ general manager expressed support for the pro-democracy protestors.

Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger said Disney was “focused on leveraging Fox’s vast library of great titles”

Iger said that he didn’t want to take a political position that would “harm our company.”

The coronavirus outbreak has only raised more questions about Hollywood’s cozy relationship with China. Most of the major studios are owned by media conglomerates that also own news divisions, which are covering the pandemic.

CNN, which is owned by WarnerMedia, has consistently repeated China’s COVID-19 death figures, which are widely suspected of being fake. The left-wing cable news network also came under fire last week for reproducing Chinese Communist propaganda in a story about the Chinese navy’s attempts to contain the coronavirus on its ships.

The CNN story cited as its primary source an article from China’s People’s Liberation Army.

WarnerMedia owns the Hollywood studio Warner Bros., whose DC Comics superhero movies are hugely popular with Chinese moviegoers. Aquaman grossed $1.15 billion worldwide, with China accounting for 25 percent of its theatrical revenue.

Last week, ABC News’s World News Tonight with David Muir reported on President Trump’s decision to halt funding for the World Health Organization. But the Disney-owned news outlet didn’t provide viewers with the full context concerning the W.H.O., including the agency’s repeated deference to China and its decision to largely ignore Taiwan’s early warnings about the seriousness of the virus.

You know the country is really, really going South when mediocre actors, singers and/or ball players with very impaired mental capabilities and very limited knowledge become the political analysts for mediocre masses of adoring fans.

The MSM whores are all in the tank for China. A sizable portion of their ad revenue comes from multinational advertisers that are heavily invested in China’s consumer market. Given that fact, why would they engage in investigative journalism that exposes Chinese culpability and risks killing their cash cow.

Besides the movie industry which now make more overseas than in the US, Walmart, YUM Brands (KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell), Apple, Microsoft, and GM are all major advertisers on MSM and they generate serous revenue in the Chinese market.

The next time a MSM media whore blames Trump, not China, for the spread of Covid-19, just remember that part of their pay check is coming from China.

Bob Iger, I’ll bet he has a stable of little boys he uses. Read Peter Schweizer’s “Disney: The Mouse Betrayed.” It was written before Iger’s time, but I’ll bet if these guys came under close scrutiny you’d find they’re deep in sex trafficking. They say pedophiles go to where the children are. Dr. Reisman is not popular with the Left, but documents every claim. Walt Disney would not believe what they’ve done to his company. When Michael Eisner took over he said “WE don’t make family films at Disney.” I hate to tell him, but that is what I grew up with from Disney, but that sure changed when Weinstein joined the firm. I heard his Miramax was the largest producer of porn movies according to one report I read years ago.

I began noticing PRODUCTION companies in HOLLYWOOD movie credits, were CHINESE about 9-11 years ago. Now, MOST movies are produced by CHINESE millionaires and that wouldn’t be so bad IF THEY WEREN’T CALLING ALL THE SHOTS, BUT THEY ARE AND HOLLYWOOD IS ALLOWING THEM TO.

They produce crap for us. They clean it up and give China wholesome movies because of COMMUNIST CENSORSHIP. The CCP won’t allow the crap they give us acceptable. They will do the same for MUSLIM countries too. No Muslim country will allow the filth they give is in their country. They make money with Islamic and Communist China.

The CCP has successfully launched WWIII and no one wants to admit we have been invaded; successfully attacked, the enemy has put thousands of its soldiers among us, they have opened the gates to further hordes of pillagers, our citizens murdered, our industries wrecked, our people exposed to epidemic and death. We are a nation and world at war with the CCP. So far, they are winning. When are we going to strike back?

It’s tough to strike back when China has a strangle hold on your economy and owns critical companies in your country or in China… That’s China’s game plan.

It may be tough but it has to be done! Our gravest problem is that our”leaders” including Trump refuse to admit and warn the people that the CCP Virus was deliberately released by the CCP to destroy their enemies and competitors across the planet. They refuse to tell us that we are in the midst of WWIII. The CCP has struck us far worse than the Japs at PearlHarbor. Having gotten away with the first attack we can expect they will soon attack again with a far more virulent bioweapon. We need to immediately and preemptively annihilate this evil, murderous regime from the face of the earth regardless of the consequences because if we do not we are all going to be killed or enslaved.

I guess if I knew who the movie stars ( pretenders ) were or had ever seen one of their movies I could judge their acting skills.
But having to put up with these ass clowns swill continually is getting old as Jane Fonda.
Hollywood has not had an original thought in so long it has not been worth even going to see a movie.
I can’t remember the last one I saw in a theater, but I think it was “ God’s not Dead.”

Each remake is worse than the previous one. Hollyweird is out of new material and ideas. They have no imagination. Pedowood puts out trash with only a few exceptions. Clinton Eastwood stuff is the only exception I can think of.

If we hadn’t all been beat up with the propaganda that international trade works out great for everybody.
Wonder why it is that China’s population has so much disposable income, huh?
Of course, if one hears it over and over and over again – most tend to believe it, yet it more than likely came from the Leftist / Globalists happily helping America’s Businesses to “Redistribute the Weath (of Jobs) to anywhere in the Third World – thus, making it harder for Americans to work decent, reasonably well-paying jobs.
Moreover, it severely hampered the success or even existance of the typical family – Husband and Father works 8+ hours, 5 days a week, Wife and Mother has plenty of time for “home-making” and looking after the kids. More Leftist policies and third world infiltration to America cost Her citizens $Trillions over the last 50-60 years, where a high percentage of wages could have been kept and personal choice to spend would have been continued.
