Giovanni Gasparro is a 36-year-old figurative painter who lives in Bari, Italy. He specializes in Christian devotional themes. He has painted a lot of saints, in tutte le salse. Unsurprisingly, he has received commissions from local churches and dioceses around Italy.
Gasparro is also a nauseating antisemite, whose latest effort shows a Christian child, little Simon of Trent (Simonino da Trento) surrounded by hook-nosed grimacing Jews who are engaged in the process of killing him. A ritual murder, forsooth, right out of the Middle Ages.

An Italian painter whose work has been honored by the Catholic Church for its devoutly Christian themes and masterful baroque style unveiled his latest canvas this week — a grotesquely antisemitic depiction of hook-nosed Jews engaged in the “ritual murder” of a terrified Christian infant.
Giovanni Gasparro, an artist based in the Adriatic port city of Bari, uploaded images of the 7ft X 5ft painting that revives the antisemitic blood libel of medieval times onto his Facebook page on Tuesday.
That the painting is replete with the basest antisemitic tropes is instantly apparent. Titled “The Martyrdom of St. Simon of Trento in Accordance With Jewish Ritual Murder,” it shows an infant boy surrounded by a crowd of sinister Jewish men, variously wearing side-curls and religious items, who strangulate him, cut him open and drain his blood.

Gasparro’s brush purposively accentuates the stereotypes of classic antisemitism: large hooked noses, yellowing uneven teeth, blood-stained fingers and visceral pleasure at forcing a non-Jewish child to suffer in a manner reminiscent of Jesus on the cross. As the child in the painting weeps with fear, the Jewish figures cackle and laugh with manic energy.
The historical event on which Gasparro’s painting is based occurred on March 21, 1475, when the disappearance of a two-year-old child named Simon in the northern Italian city of Trento sparked one of the most notorious episodes in the 900-year history of the blood libel. When the body of a little boy was discovered later that week — according to local rumor, in the cellar of a Jewish man named Samuel — a storm of anti-Jewish fanaticism erupted during the Christian holiday of Easter. The entire Jewish community was arrested and forced to confess under torture to having murdered Simon in a bloody ritual, with 15 of its leaders burned at the stake.
In later centuries, Simon was regarded as a martyr by the Catholic Church. That status was removed by Pope Paul VI in 1965 when the Vatican issued “Nostra Aetate” — its historic repudiation of antisemitism and the “deicide” charge that held the Jews collectively responsible for the death of Jesus at the hands of the Roman Empire.
An artist who concentrates primarily on devotional Christian themes, the 36-year-old Gasparro has been hailed by some art critics for his technical brilliance, as well as his choice of figurative painting over more modern forms of artistic expression.
But with this latest work, Gasparro seems determined to revive the tradition of Christian antisemitism as well. Writing about the blood libel painting in the Italian Jewish publication Mosaico on Thursday, the Italian-Jewish commentator Ester Moscati noted Gasparro’s dedication to “sacred art — with a particular taste for the macabre and the grotesque (lots of flesh and lots of blood).”
Moscati concluded with the observation that Gasparro was now directing his mastery of painting “to a work that is full of anti-Jewish hatred, as if he felt the need, at a time when the fake news is going crazy, to dust off [similarly fake news] from the dark and gloomy past.”
The appearance of this antisemitic painting has led to a flurry of outraged comment online, but so far – as of this writing at the end of March – the Church has not yet commented on the scandalous work and its hate-filled creator. This silence must not last.

First off, the “Evil Catholic Church’s” crusades were responses, over roughly a hundred years, to about SEVEN HUNDRED YEARS of Muslim savagery and slaughter across Europe.
Second, there probably were Catholics that helped Nazis escape but, they in no way had the sanction of the Church. The nation of Israel ITSELF, immediately after being formed, PRAISED Pope Pius, crediting him for saving nearly 800 THOUSAND Jewish people, DEMANDING it a Catholic duty to save Jews during the war.
Third, I haven’t read much about the Inquisition, and until I do, am willing to concede that point because there HAVE been “evil” Popes.
Fourth, Pope Frankie here, (And I’m a practicing but not “Blindly following” Catholic) is a greenie, social justice, socialist moron who’s dead bang wrong when it comes to Muslims, but to say it’s just CATHOLICS kissing Muslim butt?
Give me a break.

Catholicism doesn’t push antisemitism any more than the Jewish faith, or probably most other faiths.
But there are PLENTY OF IDIOTS in every single one of these faiths who do.

Well said. There is good and bad in every group of people. That’s why I think it’s unfair for ALL of the Catholic church to be blamed for the bad things some Catholics did. Just like I think it’s unfair to blame all Jews for the bad things some Jews did…….and are still doing. Like all of the Leftist Supremacist type Jews who push for Open Borders for the US and Europe (which destroy nations)….like the ADL…..while the ADL hypocritically advocates for Closed Borders for Israel.
And it would be wrong to blame all Jews….for the many Soviet Jewish Commissars who did unspeakable things to millions of people during the Soviet era. Like Genrik Yagoda. Yes there are many prominent evil jews, G. Soros comes to mind, and there are prominent evil Catholics, the Pope comes to mind. and there sure are a lot of evil ones that call themselves Christians, I recall one such church with co-lesbian pastors not long ago, They are all deviant and going to hell and taking many idiots with them, but that should not be used to condemn all of such faith!

He was also an accomplished author. His name was, Malachi Martin. He stated that in 1961, the Church had a 2nd Vatican Counsel event in Rome and that at which time the Church moved away from tradition and changed the mass, etc. Martin also stated that the Church has been infiltrated by Communists, Liberals and Luciferians. That you can see the opening of its arms to all things evil. Martin also stated that his study revealed that even in the Greek Orthodox Church, the number of sexual offenders are at the same percentage as in the Roman Catholic Faith. A very knowledgeable man and truthful man. He left the Church and moved to the USA, where it is believed he was murdered by the Luciferians and Zionists-Communists. Check it out. I personally believe we should execute violent rapist, and all child molesters. No appeals, no nice food and tv in prisons. No parole and no probation.

This painting has been accepted by a church lead by a socialist pope who gets angry when people try to embrace him or kiss his hand. What more can one expect?
If the church is what it says it is, it would do a good old fashioned public painting burning (much like it had done book burning in the past), clearly stating that this painting was unacceptable.

Up till WW2, the Catholic Church had a stigma against Jews. What has happened in the last 60 years has everything to do with Communist infiltration into the Catholic Church using homosexual men to infiltrate seminaries and corrupt the whole Church.
