Hydroxychloroquine rated ‘most effective’ coronavirus treatment, poll of doctors finds

By Natalie O’Neill, NY Post, April 2, 2020 |

An international poll of thousands of doctors rated the Trump-touted anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine the best treatment for the novel coronavirus.

Story continues below advertisement

Of the 6,227 physicians surveyed in 30 countries, 37 percent rated hydroxychloroquine the “most effective therapy” for combating the potentially deadly illness, according to the results released Thursday.

The survey, conducted by the global health care polling company Sermo, also found that 23 percent of medical professionals had prescribed the drug in the US — far less than other countries.

“Outside the US, hydroxychloroquine was equally used for diagnosed patients with mild to severe symptoms whereas in the US it was most commonly used for high risk diagnosed patients,” the survey found.

The medicine was most widely used in Spain, where 72 percent of physicians said they had prescribed it.

A debate about hydroxychloroquine was sparked two weeks ago after President Trump touted the drug as a possible “game-changer” in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, prompting critics to accuse him of peddling unproven, untested remedies.

To date, “there is no evidence” that any medicine “can prevent or cure the disease,” according to the World Health Organization.

But Sermo CEO Peter Kirk called the polling results a “treasure trove of global insights for policymakers.”

“Physicians should have more of a voice in how we deal with this pandemic and be able to quickly share information with one another and the world,” he said in a press release.

The 30 countries where doctors were surveyed included Europe, South America and Australia — and no incentives were provided to participate, the company said.

Thousands of Doctors: Yes,
Hydroxychloroquine Works Against Wuhan Coronavirus

Posted: Apr 06, 2020 2:30 PM

First, in Los Angeles:

Dr. Anthony Cardillo said he has seen very promising results when prescribing hydroxychloroquine in combination with zinc for the most severely-ill COVID-19 patients.

“Every patient I’ve prescribed it to has been very, very ill and within 8 to 12 hours, they were basically symptom-free,” Cardillo told Eyewitness News. “So clinically I am seeing a resolution.”

Cardillo is the CEO of Mend Urgent Care, which has locations in Sherman Oaks, Van Nuys and Burbank.

He said he has found it only works if combined with zinc. The drug, he said, opens a channel for the zinc to enter the cell and block virus replication.

“We have to be cautious and mindful that we don’t prescribe it for patients who have COVID who are well,” Cardillo said. “It should be reserved for people who are really sick, in the hospital or at home very sick, who need that medication. Otherwise we’re going to blow through our supply for patients that take it regularly for other disease processes.”

New York:

Dr. Mohammud Alam, an infectious disease specialist affiliated with Plainview Hospital, said 81 percent of infected covid patients he treated at three Long Island nursing homes recovered from the contagion.

“In this crisis, I realized I had to do something,” Alam said. ”I realized if this was my dad, what would I do? And I would do anything I could to help.”

Alam said he decided he could not apply the touted combination of the antimalarial hydroxychloroquine and antibiotic azithromycin because the side effects could be potentially fatal for his high-risk patients, many of whom had underlying heart issues.

So instead, Alam replaced azithromycin with another decades-old antibiotic that doesn’t pose any known risks to the heart.

New Jersey:

Dr. Stephen Smith, founder of The Smith Center for Infectious Diseases and Urban Health, said on “The Ingraham Angle” on Wednesday night that he is optimistic about the use of antimalarial medications and antibiotics to treat COVID-19 patients, calling it “a game-changer.”

Smith, who is treating 72 COVID-19 patients, said that he has been treating “everybody with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin [an antibiotic]. We’ve been doing so for a while.”

He pointed out that not a single COVID-19 patient of his that has been on the hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin regimen for five days or more has had to be intubated.

Around the world:

An international poll of thousands of doctors rated the Trump-touted anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine the best treatment for the novel coronavirus.

The medicine was most widely used in Spain, where 72 percent of physicians said they had prescribed it.

It’s working, which is why President Trump is touting its use!

‘To date, “there is no evidence” that any medicine “can prevent or cure the disease,” according to the World Health Organization.’
Never believe someone who claims “NO evidence.” There is almost always some evidence to support any rational idea.

And there is certainly a LOT of research evidence and clinical evidence that hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are effective against Covid-19. The WHO mucked up the H1N1 swine flu 2009 pandemic horribly, and we should not let them do that again. We MUST have more evidence to be sure about these meds, but when patients can die, we need to try stuff.

If i have a ‘whatever’ virus and eat a peanut butter sandwich twice per day and get better in three days that doesn’t prove anything. That’s why we do clinical placebo controlled trials to ‘prove’ whether something works and is safe. I took little red pill Chloroquine – Primaquine 300mg/40mg once per week in warm weather to prevent malaria in S. Korea US Army and it is relatively safe. People can talk to a doctor and get Hydroxychloroquine probably if they want.

When you (bureaucrats, not you personally) have nothing to offer but a vaccine a year from now, and others are seeing positive results with this drug, take the drug. I’d hate to see loved ones die because bureacrats don’t have the ideal clinical controlled trials that take more months and more lives. It’s not like your misleading peanut butter sandwich. People are getting better with it, countries are seeing positive results too!

Patients have the Right to Try by law. They waive their liabilty. Much can be learned from those who take this drug too! The FDA approved emergency usage of this drug so the patient should rule what goes on with their care rather than remote bureaucrats who aren’t known to do much well. In all situations a doctor prescribes it based on the patients condition and medical history. I can’t imagine why a patient shouldn’t be allowed to try this drug unless, they don’t want them to get better……

From a virus free person, I want life to get back to nomal asap. I don’t want others having to deal with this virus. We don’t want to keep viewing the death and infection rate growing each day and surrounding where we live. It reminds me of the VN days with Walter Cronkite giving the casualty and wounded account at dinner time.

I may question these numbers but this is the count for tonight and the curve is still going up :
Total infected: 41,090
Total deaths:1,002

The problem with today’s doctors is that they are basically alre-
ady pharmaceutical representatives. They are not health advi-
sors, but “treat” symptoms. Many of them have even worked at
the WHO. I personally trust in the power of nature and distrust a
supposed miracle cure with the vile name “Hydroxychloroquine”.
If today’s world were really dependent on it, it would be very poor.

My new PCP is a physician assistant. He’s taken me off most prescription meds prescribed by my previous health care provider, who also diagnosed me with diabetes.

I had lost almost 250 pounds, and she kept me on the same meds, even while cautioning me that my blood pressure was low. She blamed my very moderate alcohol use for everything I presented.

Turns out, I’m not diabetic. I’m enjoying life, as far as possible, and I’m in good health.

Michigan Democrat Rep. Karen Whitsett Praises
Hydroxychloroquine, Trump

KYLE MORRIS 6 Apr 2020

A Democrat state representative from Detroit, Michigan, has given credit to hydroxychloroquine and President Donald Trump for saving her life as she battled the deadly coronavirus.

The representative also said she was familiar with “the wonders” of hydroxychloroquine after an earlier battle with Lyme disease, but claims she would not have thought to ask for it if President Trump had not touted its benefits as a possible coronavirus treatment.

“It has a lot to do with the president … bringing it up,” Whitsett said. “He is the only person who has the power to make it a priority.”

And our brilliant Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx have scoffed at hydroxychloroquine used in conjunction with any other medicine.

Fauci says people should not return to work until the virus is gone! But he turns around and says it is very likely the virus will start up again in the fall! I cannot help from asking myself why it is Trump has these two Democrat bureaucrats calling the shots?

If this article on the Blaze is true, then these ‘data junkies’ have played a very bad joke on Trump and America. I thought this week we would see record numbers of playing dying, and all the hospitals full and overflowing.

Exactly! Fauci and Birx are bureaucrats whose models, data and advice have been grossly incorrect. They have lived pampered lives supported by taxpayers, neither of them know anything about the economy or capitalism.

Unknown to most Americans, Fauci’s decision to limit what doctors and hospitals can and cannot do is causing layoffs of nursing staff at hospitals, the closing of doctor’s clinics.

If American does not get back to work in the next couple weeks or so, it will not be able to restart. No matter that Fauci, Birx and a few other “experts” told Trump the economy must come to a halt, it is Trump who will go down in history as causing the Second Great Depression.

Yes, I have heard this. I actually have Lupus, but thank God it has been in remission for quite a while. I also take zinc, which I have heard is also good protection from the Wuhan Virus.

As a general rule, if the Democrats are pushing something, it is not good, and if they say something is bad, like this medication, it is good. The Democrats want an economic shutdown and they have objections to this medication. There you have it!

Been taking Zinc recently, just 50mg doses, daily, as a friend of mine noticed that it’s in almost every cold medication, so figured it might be a good preventative for that, turns out it might be good for this as well. Was getting it cheap, .99 cents at a local store, which is now closed for the time being, so can’t get more for the price, or would triple up, and am on a VERY low budget, esp. now.

arthur, 50 mg is a good dosage, what I believe is the recommended daily dosage. I take 200 mg a day, plus I take a Stress B-Complex that contains zinc. And as you mentioned, it is fairly inexpensive.

I hope you will be safe and healthy, and that very soon you, and everyone else, will be back to work. 🙂

I read years ago that you can o.d. on Zink. I would research it if I were you. I don’t think you’re supposed to take large doses like that for long. It’s been years since I’ve read about it but you can easily look it up. If memory serves, you’re only supposed to take 11-18mg/day. Don’t quote me. This is just a friendly tip.

Would seem you might have a bit of a point on dosage. Looked it up, and depending on what exactly you’re taking (I’m taking the 50mg tab, which seems to be a bit much daily according to this) overdoing it can be easy. Used to have a problem with acid reflux, then managed to lose a good amount of weight, then the problem for the most part went away, bothers me every once in a great while, but not often. Been noticing a bit of stomach discomfort recently, and in the sides here it said that that can come with too much of this being taken over a period of time. Might want to go every other day, or just skip some doses.

Congratulation on the weight loss and I’m glad you’re feeling better. 21 years ago I was diagnosed with universal allergies. I was allergic to everything. I couldn’t eat anything that wasn’t organic. It was the sickest I’ve ever been. So that’s when I started reading everything I could get my hands on about all-natural remedies. I knew nothing about it before but after reading for all these years I’ve picked up a few things. I’m no longer allergic. Conventional doctors couldn’t help me but I managed to get cured the all-natural way. Took 18 months but I’m fine now. No allergies.

EXCELLENT Glad you were able to pull that off! I have had to self diagnose a few things myself, being on poor mans insurance (disabled, Mainecare/Medicare), they don’t seem to give a rat’s when you’re poor. Developed a problem walking, went to doctors for years, as the problem got worse and worse, kept getting jacked around, finally started doing research, finally zeroed in on Sciatica, and narrowed it down to exactly which form from my symptoms, but needed an MRI to confirm. Doctor I had at the time didn’t want to give me one. Was livid, went off on the guy right then and there, told him he worked for me, not the other damn way around, and I would damn well get my MRI, and would get it most ricky tick!

Long story short, got the MRI, and confirmed that I had Sciatica, had a surgery a bit later to remove some striations off of a couple vertebrae, but that didn’t help one bit. If they had caught it by paying a little attention when they should have in the beginning, might have had a better outcome. Gabapentin keeps me walking, but range is short, and there is a limit. Wound up firing him a bit later, caught him lying to my face about something else, and went to the administration and filed a complaint, and PROVED he lied, after he lied to THEM about it. they were not happy about that, but he’s still there. Would have sued if I had the $$, but alas….

I share your skepticism … and their agencies are responsible for botching the testing roll-out and the slow quarantine … and not having clinical trials on drugs for Coronaviruses … and no one seems to have asked how the vaccine for Sars-cov-1 is going … and not checking the supplies in the stockpile … and not getting the supply chain ready … of course, they would say that’s not their job, but it’s all one package …

That said, I don’t think it’s a joke – rather it’s the same sort of bureaucratic blindness I saw as a bureaucrat myself – a complete inability to translate the data and the wonky stuff into real-life problem solving – or not. They “monitor” the potential problems, but have no idea of how to solve them – and they deliberately refuse to consider coordination with the private sector or the military to have a supply chain protocol prepared.

Oh, and if they do have any thoughts about how to handle a crisis … it’s always the last crisis … no matter how much has changed since then.

I consider it ‘incompetence’ … but whatever we call it … it’s why Federal and State bureaucrats should not be in charge of anything … and Demokkkrats should not allowed to handle any resources.

As for the President – he has no choice – all of the choices he could have made should have been figured out during a pandemic planning gaming session early in his administration – which would have exposed the stockpile and supply chain problems … once the crisis began and the Feds began making a mess of things … the President had to roll with it.

Frankly, I think the President has done a fantastic job – but he made the same mistake with the emergency sector – FEMA, CDC, NIH, etc., etc. – that he made with the FBI and DOJ – trusting them to both do their jobs – and – do their jobs well. I think he knows better now.

Also – and this is something only a former bureaucrat can see – but Fauci and Birx must have come clean with the President and explained what happened at some point in early February. And they have defended the President’s management of the crisis. This must have happened – otherwise the President would still be backing into trouble and tripping over problems – instead the President cut threw a slew of red tape – and got the Feds to green light private sector testing, vaccine research, drug treatments, and so forth. None of that would have happened if the President had not been informed of where the blockages and shortages were.

Small consolation to the nation or the victims of the virus, but I’m pretty certain all of these bureaucrats were as upfront with the President – after the fact – as any Swamp Creature can be. Had they been on the same page as the FBI/DOJ, the fumbling would be obvious, and the Liestream media would have plenty of real crap to report without making up lies. I doubt they apologized, but just admitting they weren’t prepared and coming clean on the red tape was probably as much as we can expect.

stay safe – and God bless you and yours!

“they would say that’s not their job”

One of the best of the bureaucratic tricks. Design the system so no one individual is responsible, so noonecan get blamed. Except for the grunt workers.

I first read about that during the Battle of the Somme, before the soldiers were sent out in waves to be slaughtered. The battle was designed so no higher officer would be at fault if it failed.

Speaking of gravity, in my former sanctuary city, a heavily used auto tunnel was being repaired. The geniuses in charge hired a Russian contractor to do the job, presumably the low bid. At one point they dug a hole in the roof of the tunnel. Voila! The Russians discovered gravity, as tons of rock and mud came pouring out. Took about a year after that before the tunnel was reopened.

Soros Backed a Disease Control Lab in Wuhan
Right Before Covid-19 Break Out

By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz April 5, 2020 , 1:29 pm

WuXi AppTec operates 15 sites across the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East. One year before Soros invested in the company, they announced plans to build a $100 million research and development center in Wuhan. The center was opened one year after Soros’ investment, the Wuhan lab was opened.

Late last year, all or Wuxi’s sites in China shut down. An article in Outsourcing-Pharma noted that after an “extended New Year holiday, most of Wuxi’s China sites are up and running.” The “sole exception” was the site in Wuhan which will “remain closed until local regulations permit it to reopen.”

As a result, the company is looking “reassign” the work carried out at its Wuhan site to its seven sites in the U.S. which employ 1,600 people.

Dr. Fauci knows of a treatment: “Scientists found that a combination of the antiviral drugs ribavirin and interferon-alpha 2b can stop the virus from reproducing in lab-grown cells, says lead author Darryl Falzarano of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease’s lab in Hamilton, Mont.
That’s particularly encouraging, because these drugs, now used to treat hepatitis C, are widely available, says Anthony Fauci, director of the infectious-disease institute, which financed the research.
“We don’t have to start designing new drugs,” a process that takes years, Fauci says. “The next time someone comes into an emergency room in Qatar or Saudi Arabia, you would have drugs that are readily available. And at least you would have some data.”
Even though the treatment hasn’t gone through definitive trials, Fauci says, “if I were a physician in a hospital and someone were dying, rather than do nothing, you can see if these work.”

Bill Gates: https://off-guardian.org/2020/04/04/did-bill-gates-just-reveal-the-reason-behind-the-lock-downs/
In a recent candid interview, Bill Gates outlined that, despite the comparatively small threat of Coronavirus, he and his colleagues “don’t want a lot of recovered people” who have acquired natural immunity. They instead are hoping we become reliant on vaccines and anti-viral medication.
Shockingly, Gates also suggests people be made to have a digital ID showing their vaccination status, and that people without this “digital immunity proof” would not be allowed to travel. Such an approach would mean very big money for vaccine producers.

But I’ve never seen this reaction. And I’m trying to understand why,” said Dr. Kettner, associate professor of Community Health Sciences and Surgery at the University of Manitoba, former Chief Provincial Public Health Officer for Manitoba and former Medical Director of the International Centre for Infectious Diseases.

The President needs to go with his original instincts. Saturday declare the lockdown is over, everyone return to work, school, and resume normal activities.

Oh, one more thing. Dr. Fauci loves Hillary Clinton:

Good information. I’m still trying to figure out why we have never did a “lock-down” with any previous viral epidemic.
Flu virus deaths in US so far 2019-2020 has been estimated at 24,000 to 63,000 (WITH A VACCINE and with a lock-down since March).
COVID 19 deaths so far 2019-2020 are 11,000 (WITHOUT a VACCINE and a lock down since March).
Maybe a vaccine is not all that helpful after all. These viruses keep mutating.

I question the necessity for a lockdown as I’m sure others do also. As stated by this Canadian “In thirty years of public-health medicine I have never seen anything … anywhere near like this. Ok, just a rumour ( from one of the 9th best bio-labs in the world ) – coming out from Wuhan bio-lab ( poor safity standart ) and a mix between sars and aids ( look how the goverments react ).
Flu – more danger ? Quarantine – no.

We’ll pass on Bill Gates vaccine….

Coronavirus vaccine entering human trials after receiving FDA approval Inovio has been well ahead of other pharmaceutical companies with regards to getting a working coronavirus vaccine into worldwide circulation.
By ZACHARY KEYSER APRIL 7, 2020 12:32

A vaccine, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, designed to treat the disease caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19), has entered into the human stages of testing after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved its application to begin trials under the classification of an Investigational New Drug program following promising results achieved during animal testing.

Inovio Pharmaceuticals, the developers behind the INO-4800 DNA vaccine, began injecting volunteers with their first dose on Monday; the second dose will be administered four weeks later. Inovio is expecting the initial data from the trial results by late summer.

Scoop: Inside the epic White House fight over hydroxychloroquine
Jonathan Swan
4/5/20

The White House coronavirus task force had its biggest fight yet on Saturday, pitting economic adviser Peter Navarro against infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci. At issue: How enthusiastically should the White House tout the prospects of an antimalarial drug to fight COVID-19?

Toward the end of the meeting, Hahn began a discussion of the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine, which Trump believes could be a “game-changer” against the coronavirus.

Hahn gave an update about the drug and what he was seeing in different trials and real-world results.

Then Navarro got up. He brought over a stack of folders and dropped them on the table. People started passing them around.

And the first words out of his mouth are that the studies that he’s seen, I believe they’re mostly overseas, show ‘clear therapeutic efficacy,'” said a source familiar with the conversation. “Those are the exact words out of his mouth.”

Navarro’s comments set off a heated exchange about how the Trump administration and the president ought to talk about the malaria drug, which Fauci and other public health officials stress is unproven to combat COVID-19.

Fauci pushed back against Navarro, saying that there was only anecdotal evidence that hydroxychloroquine works against the coronavirus.

Researchers have said studies out of France and China are inadequate because they did not include control groups.

Fauci and others have said much more data is needed to prove that hydroxychloroquine is effective against the coronavirus.

As part of his role, Navarro has been trying to source hydroxychloroquine from around the world. He’s also been trying to ensure that there are enough domestic production capabilities inside the U.S.

Fauci’s mention of anecdotal evidence “just set Peter off,” said one of the sources. Navarro pointed to the pile of folders on the desk, which included printouts of studies on hydroxychloroquine from around the world.

Navarro said to Fauci, “That’s science, not anecdote,” said another of the sources.

Navarro started raising his voice, and at one point accused Fauci of objecting to Trump’s travel restrictions, saying, “You were the one who early on objected to the travel restrictions with China,” saying that travel restrictions don’t work. (Navarro was one of the earliest to push the China travel ban.)

Fauci looked confused, according to a source in the room. After Trump imposed the travel restrictions, Fauci has publicly praised the president’s restriction on travel from China.

Eventually, Kushner turned to Navarro and said, “Peter, take yes for an answer,” because most everyone agreed, by that time, it was important to surge the supply of the drug to hot zones.

The principals agreed that the administration’s public stance should be that the decision to use the drug is between doctors and patients.
Trump ended up announcing at his press conference that he had 29 million doses of hydroxychloroquine in the Strategic National Stockpile.
