Over 62,000 defective masks sent to Toronto long-term care workers

The city is recalling more than 62,000 surgical masks distributed to Toronto long-term care homes due to quality control issues.
Story continues below advertisementAnd the city says it’s working with the Ontario government to quickly procure new ones, as the recall represents a “significant shortfall” in Toronto’s supply of personal protective equipment (PPE.)
Officials started receiving reports Tuesday about the masks tearing and ripping, said Matthew Pegg, Toronto’s fire chief and head of emergency management.
“Immediately, upon becoming aware of this situation we took action and recalled the masks,” he said Wednesday.
The masks, part of a $200,000 order of 4,000 boxes, were from a vendor the city hadn’t used previously, Pegg said.
Pegg also confirmed the masks were manufactured in China.
On March 28, 1,252 boxes, containing 62,600 masks were distributed to long-term care homes in Toronto.
“The city’s occupational health and safety team are engaged, and are conducting an investigation to determine how many employees may have used these masks, and if there was possible exposure to COVID-19 as a result,” Pegg said.
Shortages of PPE are an ongoing issue during the coronavirus crisis.
On Sunday, a truckload of 3 million N95 masks which were manufactured by 3M and destined for Ontario was halted at the border by U.S. officials, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said Monday.
A deal has since been struck with the Americans to ensure the masks — manufactured out of paper pulp produced in B.C. — can still be shipped into Canada.
Pegg said the defective masks represented roughly half of the city’s current supply and that there’s a six-to-eight week supply of other PPE items in the city’s inventory.
The incident prompted the city to undergo a full review of the city’s PPE procurement protocols, which will now include additional inspection to ensure items meet standards

That, I do not know. However, unless you’re into the green koolaid of festool … bosche, Makita, Milwaukee, Dewalt, Hitachi (now called “Metabo”) and most other tools have been manufactured, in the PRC, for quite some time. The Dewalt and Milwaukee are far better quality than when still manufactured in the U.S.

Surgical masks aren’t that much protection. They’re designed to not drop spittle on a patient, during an operation.
But, K95s, made in America, are appearing everywhere. Two weeks ago, it was an estimated shipping time of June 1st. Now, two made in America masks are $6.95, shipping included, have ’em by next Friday.
Obviously, enterprising companies have jumped on this bandwagon.

“Made in China” to be avoided at all costs. These are probably the same crappy ones that Spain sent back. And most of the crap for sale on eBay and Amazon comes from China or some other sweat shop country.
Just last week I ordered a antiviral mask and filters from eBay. Source was supposed to be the UK – three day lead time. Not cheap. Image looked professional. Got a response from some Chink stating that the order was now on the way – from China – lead time weeks. He sent a tracking code. Checked tracking code – nothing. Then got a message from eBay that the items had been withdrawn. Seller responded by saying that this was because the image used was breaking copyright. Checked tracking again – nothing. Then I got a message from eBay saying that the seller’s account had been terminated. Checked tracking again – nothing. Got a full refund from eBay. Scamming Chinks.

The Chinese need to improve their hygiene.
China is where all these horrific viruses come from. Very unclean.
Even now the Chinese lie and let us down and ship defective masks and especially to the nursing homes.
China thought they could send defective masks and no one would notice.
When this pandemic is over airports need to take extra caution screening Chinese coming and going in the future for years to come so this never happens again!

These masks probably came from the same junk factory that made the defective test kits they sold to the Czechs recently. The kits gave 80% false readings and were total useless. Meanwhile Trudeau sent China 16 tonnes of vital medical supplies to China when they were needed here at home.

I doubt it is a “junk factory”.
3 other options
1) piles of defects not salvaged are getting shipped out.
2) piles of seconds from either increased output demands or new trainees getting shipped out.
3) deliberate sabotage as demonstrated by the infrared thermometer maker bragging about deliberate wrong readings so Americans do not know when they get sick. Nothing stopping the Chinese from doing this everywhere as long as buyers are desperate and pay up front.

The fraud-stream media just made a huge deal out of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Governor Charlie Baker (RINO-MA) and others inking a deal with China for surgical masks, with Kraft’s NE Patriots-logo-themed team plane flying to China and back with the masks.
Kraft and Gov. Baker (rhymes with FAKER) dropped several masks in MA, RI, and then on to NY and NJ. I am waiting for the same story and headline as this article, but with the states I named substituted instead for Toronto, to be in the news.
