Texas’ stay at-home order to expire Thursday, businesses to reopen in phases Friday

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott detailed plans on Monday to reopen the state for business amid the coronavirus pandemic – allowing places like retail stores, restaurants and movie theaters to open up to customers at a limited capacity by Friday May 1.

The move by Abbot puts Texas – the country’s second largest economy behind California – at the forefront of the movement to reopen state economies that have been basically brought to a standstill as the U.S. grapples with the outbreak of COVID-19.

“We’re not just going to pen up and hope for the best,” Abbott said during a news conference on Monday in Austin. “We’re going to open in way that will also contain the virus and keep us safe.”

He added: “A more strategic approach is required so that we don’t open only to close down again.”

Along with retail stores, restaurants and movie theaters, Abbott said that museums and libraries can also reopen on Friday at a 25 percent capacity. Sole proprietors of businesses can also open and doctors and dentists can resume normal operations as well.
Abbott added that hospitals will still have to keep 50 percent of their capacity for patients suffering from COVID-19.
Churches and places of worship, which were allowed to remain open during the state’s stay-at-home orders, are also allowed to expand their capacity provided safe social distancing measures are still enacted.
Barber shops, hair salons and bars will still remain closed.

The governor’s plan, which he said has the backing of both state and federal health officials, is part of larger strategy in Texas to gradually reopen businesses. Abbott noted that by May 18, if there are no new spikes of contagion in Texas than he will move on to phases two of the plan, which almost businesses to operate at 50 percent capacity.
“We will open in a way that employs safe standards,” he said, noting that places like China and Singapore have seen a second wave of infections after reopening too early. “There is a reason why all businesses in Texas can’t reopen all at once.”
Texas has seen 25,297 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, with 663 deaths. 15 more people died from the virus between Sunday and Monday.

Abbott’s announcement comes as the Trump administration is drawing up new guidelines for how restaurants, schools, churches and businesses can safely reopen nationwide. A draft of the White House’s plan includes suggestions such as closing break rooms at offices, using disposable menus in restaurants and having students eat lunch in their classrooms.

What they should do is OPEN UP with warnings to people with compromised health and older people. The whole purpose was to not overwhelm our hospitals. If we don’t our economy will collapse. END more bailouts too!
Now our FOOD CHAIN is in jeopardy if we don’t OPEN UP!!

Officially 2% of all restaurants in Texas are bankrupt and never opening with Abbott/Fauci/Birx “plan”.

If it isn’t changed by May 1-4….. the number will be 6%. And that’s an Official number BTW.

And Abbott has NO plan to change it …. only 25% capacity will be allowed.

You only have a few percent margin on a restaurant. There is no way in hell you could operate at 25% capacity and make a profit.

What does leftist ideology have to do with it. That’s a rhetorical question. I don’t subscribe to the Hero worship. Anybody who knows me here knows I am 1000% for a Constitutional Republic. Abbott is following Fauci…..2 % of Texcas restaurants are already bankrupt and won’t re-open. If this b ullshit Abbott plan goes forward it will hit 6% by May 4th …. real Conservative./…. real fooking Texan there !!

BTW My ancestor Gen’l Albert Sydney Johnston fought to MAKE Texas a Republic and is buries in the State Cemetery in Austin. We been here a long time . I don’t need someone telling me what is a sellout to DC and what isn’t.

If we are going to talk pedigree, my ancestor on my mother’s side, Barnett A. Ellis was a doctor in the 49th Alabama Infantry. He is buried in the Hillsboro cemetery along with both my parents and all four of my grandparents.

I’ll take Abbott over some counterfeit politico like Dolph Briscoe any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

As far as I’m concerned, he walked the thin line between damned if you do and damned if you don’t pretty well. If you don’t like it, you can always move back to whatever blue state ran you out.

Why should I bother….. Texas is now blue enough. Abbott was/is worse than the Liberal Gov. of Liberal Colorado.

And he hasn’t walk s hit….. just done EXACTLY what Fauci told him to do. BTW… uhmm ‘noble” ….. I have worked on Abbott’s campaign. When I see Liberal sellout I call it what it is.

Yeah and I worked on Perot’s. Big frigging deal. Like I said, if you don’t like it, Mr. Politics, run your own campaign, or work with what you gave us. Or go back to your blue state, which is more the likely option.

You are the one who sounds like a Liberal. One who worships the authority above all else. Like I said my family has fought against the State-worshippers since Magna Carta…. including Texas as I said.

Abbott should just say, business is open and responsible for minimizing the spread of the virus… if that means clean everything between customers then so be it. But that should be up to the shop owners and their employees and not the nanny state which Abbott as well as many other conservatives have fallen for.

Should. Could. Would. But won’t. Because Marxists are in control. I’m as fed up as everyone else. This stinking mess should stop TODAY!! Fauci and Birx belong behind bars, not advising Trump! Yet he won’t dump them. That tells me more than I want to know about him.

I look forward to the Friday opening of some businesses in Houston, although we should allow the young and healthy to resume their lives and protect the elderly and vulnerable from this pernicious CCP Virus, which is 100X more lethal than the flu and for those who develop symptoms has a lethality factor of up to 10%, so we’ll go about our lives exercising care and common sense.

It’s NOT 10o% more lethal. You are spreading a lie and propaganda. Even the 10% figure is a complete lie. Even the 78-90 year olds who come down with it the survival rate is about 93-96% average. Depending on co-morbidities.

Iamfaid you ar eincorrect. These are not lies, these are facts and we had best be aware of them before you storm the beach. The young and healthy have little to fear from the CCPVirus, but they can transmit the CCP Virus to the elderly and vulnerable. The evidence is indisputable, the CCP Virus was created, deliberately spread by the CCP, and is a WMD deployed against us and the world. Mike Admas lays out the facts here. Let’s Not be deniers or fall into complacency. The CCPVirus is like no weapon we have ever faced in the past. If you believe I am wrong, let me know why you think this analysis is in error. You’re about two places off on your decimal point.
Stop buying into the Media Mob hysteria. It will hurt you because the hysteria gets people killed, and it is the only way they can get people to pay attention to them, and by extension their advertisers.
The fact are, the more testing that is done the greater the drop in the actual fatality rate.
In areas where comprehensive testing has been done between 20% and 25% of those tested show positive for having been infected with the C19 Virus. These are all people walking around, most of whom are unaware that they have not just been infected but have survived the virus.
The only differences between the C19 Virus and the every year flu is that those who contract a severe enough case end up with their own immune system over-reacting to the point where their lungs are filled with fluid produced as part of the over-reaction, and that the C19 Virus has a longer incubation period with no symptoms but still transmittable than the regular flu virus.
By this time next year enough people will have survived an infection for there to be significant herd immunity which will greatly suppress further transmission, provided the nation has a more or less normal summer with business as usual being the order of the day. The initial results are in on lockdown vs no lockdown and the infection curve and the infection rates are so close to congruent as to demonstrate no significant difference.
Which means the CDC has succeeded in wrecking the US Economy while doing nothing substantial to fight the infection.

The fundamental error is the assumptions underlying the math.
You can prove anything mathematically if you choose the right starting point.
The problem with relying on these mathematical projections is that every single one of them has been wrong. Not just by a few percentage points plus or minus but by Orders Of Magnitude.
And you have been flagged, yet again for commercial spam disguised as legitimate discussion.
