Virus fears fuel spike in sales of guns and ammunition

Chiu)BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The world’s largest gun store, in metro Atlanta, has had lines that are six and eight people deep. A gun store in Los Angeles had lines that stretched down the block. And at least one store in Idaho put limits on sales after its shelves were nearly cleared out.
Just as grocery stores have been stripped bare by Americans panicked by coronavirus, guns and ammunition have started flying off the shelves. Retailers say the buying frenzy is being fueled by consumers who are worried that people are becoming so desperate and unpredictable, they need to ensure they can protect themselves.
Story continues below advertisement“It’s been insane,” said Jay Wallace, who owns Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna, Georgia, adding that his ammunition sales are up more than five times the usual numbers. “This is like a Rod Serling ‘Twilight Zone’ episode.”
Sales spiked in a matter of days, industry experts say. Some of the purchases are made by people buying their first firearm. Others are existing gun owners adding to their collection or stocking up on ammunition after seeing grocery stores depleted, schools closed and big events canceled, including the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting.
Also potentially driving the sales are concerns that elected officials may try to restrict access to firearms. A mayor in Illinois recently signed an executive order that would give her the right to ban the sale of guns or ammunition, as did the mayor of New Orleans.
Specific data on the size of the sales spike will not be available until next month. But already this year, background checks are up considerably over last year. According to data from the FBI, just over 5.5 million background checks were conducted in January and February combined.
Gun sales generally rise in an election year, as they did in 2016. But this past January and February have outpaced 2016 by nearly 350,000.
Betsy Terrell, a 61-year-old resident of Decatur, Georgia, said she thought for years about purchasing a handgun and decided to finally get one after seeing chaos at her local Costco, with long lines and people stockpiling goods.
She feels the metro Atlanta area already has a lot of crime. She’s worried that if the economy tanks, crime will rise even more.
“I was beginning to see people acting oddly. That was a little unnerving,” she said. “I feel there’s potential political upheaval. … It’s scary. It’s only now I’ve felt this overwhelming need to arm myself to protect myself.”

If a person were really SMART, they would have prepared for anything the moment Obama became President, watching how he was slowly changing America, trying to destroy the very fabric that held our Republic together. I sure did saw the writing on the wall, QUICKLY. NOW, I don’t need to run out and buy everything. I already have what I need to remain in my home SAFELY for about 1 year.

GREAT POST, Tom! . . . I did exactly the same as you: food, water, gas, generator, and “protections.” Also included a massive-sensibly-purchased supply of TP, still unopened 9 years later! Hope this emergency passes quickly before things get really out-of-hand, (sorry, no pun intended 🙂

Now, Mohandjob, the psych doc at the institution recommended that she be allowed to do some custodian work. She found that after all that cleaning, time is rather limited and she’d rather spend it giving “favors” to the orderlies, instead of taking a writing class.

Definitely need guns and lots of ammo.
When your neighbours start coming for your stocked up toilet paper, you better be able to stop them. When the street gangs in suburbia start going house to house for hand sanitizer, you better have guns. When the dead start to rise, you better be armed (aim for the head).
If the bad guys have guns, you should be armed – and complete a NRA course on proper handling and safety. But right now its an overblown crisis inflamed by all media – including FOX with its 24 hour minute by minute updates.
Wash hands, stay away from crowds, be sensible. Oh, and don’t hoard.

China, the creator of the pandemic, has miraculously “recovered”, has almost no more cases of coronavirus. The world is now beginning to feel the effects and panic about the disease. Who recovered first ?? China itself! It seems to be that this virus was a move by the Chinese government in response to the loss of the trade war with the United States. The goal: to throw the world into recession !!!
Is the scenario not clear? They are already growing! China bought almost everything it devalued on the stock exchanges around the world … with that the Chinese became owners of the global companies that are in China and without the money leaving China
