Senate GOP unveils massive coronavirus bill that includes checks for Americans

The Republican proposal also includes emergency aid for small businesses and industries such as airline companies.

By Lauren Egan, NBC. 2020:

WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday released the Republican proposal for a massive emergency coronavirus stimulus bill, which includes direct cash payments for some Americans.

Story continues below advertisement

The proposal, expected to cost around $1 trillion, calls for direct payments on a tiered scale. Individuals making $75,000 based on a 2018 tax return would be eligible for $1,200 payments, or $2,400 for couples filing jointly.

The payments would decrease for those making more than $75,000, with an income cap of $99,000 per individual or $198,000 for couples. The payments would also increase $500 for each child a person or couple has.

However, taxpayers with little or no income tax liability but at least $2,500 of qualifying income would be eligible for only $600 or $1,200 for couples. The direct deposits appear to be just a one-time payment, rather than two payments as initially proposed by the White House.

The Republican proposal also includes emergency aid for small businesses and industries such as airline companies.

The GOP proposal would provide $208 billion for loans or loan guarantees to air carriers and other distressed industries but no more than $50 billion for passenger air carriers and $8 billion for cargo air carriers. The rest, around $150 billion, would be for other industries.

The bill also calls for extending the tax filing deadline to July 15.

Great idea, let’s just print up a bunch more fiat currency and drop it from cargo planes while we’re at it. People need it for more stockpiling of toilet paper…

Since I am financially set, I am donating mine to a very worthy charity. THANK YOU, MR. PRESIDENT!

Maybe I will give it to poor Jewish people, or maybe the homeless, or maybe I will send it to President Trump’s re-election campaign!

Americans should be totally UPSET…

NO BAILOUT FOR THE AIRLINE INDUSTRIES!!!!

The airlines have been using their profits (95%) to buy back their stocks… and this did two things…

1) Kept the prices of their stocks rising…

2) Line the pockets of CEO’s for stock price increases… some estimates have been 12 million dollars in bonuses…

NO BAILOUT FOR AIRLINES!!!

If anything… they were intentionally letting CV19 spread, to “Flatten the Curve”… and it got out of hand…

If no one bails out US airlines it could very well come to pass there will be no US airlines left and you’ll be left with nothing but a choice of foreign airlines on US soil. Foreign airlines frequently subsidized by foreign governments. Maybe you would prefer to book your flights on Qatari airlines or maybe United Emirates?

Word is… that’s not true…

How so?

They could resell their stock holdings…

Additionally… How can you surmise that this will only effect American Airlines?

Besides… bad business needs to suffer the consequences. <<< Next time they'll think and plan better.

Yes… TWA is gone…

And the others succeeded…

So what’s the difference today? <<< Nothing... businesses come and businesses go... The smart ones survive... NO BAILOUTS FOR AIRLINES!!! They can raise money by selling their stocks...

Airlines are an international business fool. The f’ing muslums would like nothing more than US airlines to go out of business so they (and OTHER foreign airlines) could completely take over the market. Airlines, like automobile manufacturers, aren’t companies that are easily started up either. They take vast amounts of capital and financing.

You don’t get it… do you…

The airlines have wasted their profits buying back their stocks so they could get bonuses…

Also… Jeff Bezo’s of Amazon has his hands out for bailout money too…

by what right does a government have to take a portion of MY money I worked for and give it to someone else ? Tell me, by what right. I`ll tell you, it`s done at the barrel of a gun. That old Communist, Mao, said one thing we better learn and understand all over again. ” Political Power Comes Out Of The Barrel Of A Gun “. Public Education is largely to blame for what we have to deal with. We let them get away with it,so bottom line is, it`s OUR fault. Never in my life did I expect to see such open Socialist`s and Communist`s running for President and having the support of nearly half the country. With Media support, besides. I don`t want any government handout, but if I do receive one,it`ll go for ammo. Dhu-Mhan-Yhu, Communist`s

Had to vote up your own comment ? Don`t know why,but I`ll waste a bit of time on you. Our Founders experienced Mao`s quote long before there was a Mao. The English knew it and employed it to keep the colonists in line. As you have access to a computer, google Dhu Mhan Yhu. I send it to Socialist websites and Communist web sites. If it bothers you, then it must apply to you also. I also suggest you read U.N. Agenda 21. Either wise up,or stay out of my way. There is no excuse for a lack of knowledge. Look, dummy, taxation is RE-DISTRIBUTION of WEALTH. Of course we need roads, critical services. Public Education? No, judging from some comments I see here. Welfare creates so many problems, there isn`t enough room here for all the reasons. See Murry Rothbard, Ayn Rand commentaries. Learn something!

I was a kid when our benevolent giviment took us off the silver standard. Politicians lauded the move, claiming how ‘good’ it would be for our dollar and economy. Allowing our dollar to ‘flaot’,and be just wonderful for us. I was some anxious when I spent my first “sandwich” quarter. The clerk accepted it without comment. It was a way for the government to rob us by devaluing the money, and it`s still happening. As from your excellent remarks, you already know. I woke up this am. dreaming we should return to the gold standard immediately. It would be a shock for most, because they would then be faced with the reality of our how worthless the money is. I`m no economist, have no degrees, barely made it thru HS. However,I`m not blind. What I could buy for a dollar in the early 60`s, now costs me over $12. . And the quality is poor because we don`t have the manufacturing anymore. Which brings me to the Politicians(again) who saw their chance to make money changing taxes, encouraging companies to relocate to China, and other countries. They said it was to ‘help’ their economies. I`d like to know what countries contribute to those politicians campaign fund for their re-election and how much. Name, names as the public`s right to know in the media. Not some buried Federal report. Re-ammo; There are a lot of good sales right now on a variety of web sites. Like late 70`s prices. A $20. gold piece could buy a Colt pistol, and to-day, it still will. Interesting times with opportunities to make money. A friend once chastised me for my theory of investing. Which was and still is, anything the Gov. does to help us, will be wrong. I invest accordingly.

As the U.S. holds over $1 trillion dollars of Chinese funds (in bonds and treasuries), if the President spends $1 trillion for this package, it`s only right were the Chinese to compensate us by giving us at least the $1 trillion, or, even much more.

This stimulus has changed so much in one week it no longer stimulates the American wallet. Plus, it has gone from EVERY American to SOME Americans and now the GOP shoots down retirees and those on disability. First the demos were for it and now,…take a wild guess. And keep on guessing because SOME just won’t cut it,…SOME never do.

Not only that but the latest news this morning is it went from 1 trillion to 2 trillion $$$. Once these politicians get an idea to spend some money the sky is the limit. They never consider paying debt down, only increasing it. At some point this will all hit the fan with no fix available. Until then the party’s on!

Hey, haven’t you heard of NMT or the New Monetary Theory.? If the Commiecarts get in they will print all the money anybody “needs.” I’m using mine to add to my store of silver coins, I may need them. With the big inflation coming a silver quarter might buy you a bag of groceries.

Well sir, you may well be right about the money printing. It just so happens that I’m a former coin collector and if you have a mind to store silver your best bet is to buy “scrap silver” from a trusted coin dealer. I’ve done it in the past and currently silver is about $12:30/oz. – a good price. In a bartering society silver can serve you well but not the graded coins hustlers will try to get you to buy just because it’s silver. No one will pay extra for “graded coins” in a bartering situation – it’s a big time rip off.

I agree about the “graded”coins. If I buy its for their numismatic value. Bags of pre-1965 dimes and quarters are the best bet should the collapse come. Better yet you can borrow on your house and buy coins and wait for the inflation to come and make a huge profit paying off tht 3% mortgage with inflated silver.

Yes, scrap silver dimes are the cheapest way the get bartering silver. Stock up as you’re able. It appears to me we are in for a rough ride if the government continues down this path of endless spending. When the interest rates go back to normal we will no longer even be able to pay the interest on the debt. Then the serious trouble will start.

When the manufacturing comes back from China and the new America/Mexico/Canada trade deal kicks in, and the China trade deals, (however much survives), this country will have zero unemployment. Hopefully, Trump will go back to Pre-income tax days and use tariffs from now on, instead of payroll taxes and income taxes. Free the American people from tyranny racist dem Pres.Woodrow Wilson foisted upon us to control us and rape our economy with income tax and the Federal Reserve, which is NOT part of USA government, but controls our money.
