MSNBC host Chris Matthews announces resignation amid series of controversies

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews under fire for comparing Sanders’ victories to Nazis in WWII
Sen. Bernie Sanders is blasting what he calls biased coverage of his 2020 campaign from the liberal media; Fox News media analyst Howard Kurtz reacts.
MSNBC star Chris Matthews shocked his colleagues and viewers Monday night by announcing that he was stepping down as host of the cable news channel’s primetime staple, “Hardball,” effective immediately.
“Let me start with my headline tonight: I’m retiring. This is the last ‘Hardball’ on MSNBC,” Matthews announced at the top of his show. “And obviously, this isn’t for the lack of interest in politics. As you can tell, I loved every minute of my 20 years as host of ‘Hardball.’ Every morning I read the papers and I’m gung-ho to get to work. Not many people have had this privilege. I loved working with my producers and our discussions we’d have on how we report the news. And I love having this connection with you, the people who watch.”
He continued, “After conversations with NBC, I decided tonight will be my last ‘Hardball.’ So let me tell you why. The younger generations out there are ready to take the reigns. We see them in politics, in the media, and fighting for their causes.”
The longtime MSNBC host then referenced renewed claims of sexual harassment against him by a journalist who previously appeared on his show.
“Compliments on a woman’s appearance that some men, including me, might have once incorrectly thought were okay were not okay, not then and certainly not today. And for making such comments in the past, I’m sorry,” said Matthews, who went on to say that he was “very proud” of the work he had done on his show and that he will “continue” to write and talk about politics.
“And for those of you who have gotten into the habit of watching ‘Hardball’ every night, I hope you’re going to miss me because I’m going to miss you,” Matthews concluded. “But remember Humphrey Bogart in ‘Casablanca’: We’ll always have Hardball. So let’s not say goodbye, but until we meet again.”
MSNBC national political correspondent Steve Kornacki took over for the rest of the hour after an extended commercial break.

The network did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment, but the shock announcement comes as incoming NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell is expected to put his own stamp on the news division later this year.
While Shell was technically already promoted to the CEO position, he currently reports to CEO-turned-chairman Steve Burke, who has been famously loyal to NBC News chairman Andy Lack amid a laundry list of scandals and public relations nightmares.
But when Burke leaves the company following NBC’s coverage of this summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo, the reins will officially be handed to Shell, who will then report directly to Comcast CEO Brian Roberts and be free to shake up his news division as he sees fit.
Matthews is coming off a disastrous week filled with gaffes, controversial moments and accusations of sexist behavior – but a former reporter who detailed similar allegations against the “Hardball” host years ago thinks the criticism is only reaching critical mass now because the timing is convenient for liberals.
“Matthews has been dogged by allegations of sexual misconduct on his show for years now, including a separation-relation payment made to a staffer in 1999,” Spectator USA Washington editor Amber Athey, who covered Matthews as a reporter for the Daily Caller, told Fox News. “The only reason the left is giving weight to these claims now is because they don’t like that he’s gone after Elizabeth Warren’s insistence that we must reflexively believe all women.”
In an op-ed for GQ on Friday, journalist Laura Bassett claimed Matthews used sexist language when she visited the MSNBC studio to appear on his show as a guest. She recalled Matthews looking at her in an adjacent makeup chair before an appearance in 2016 and asking: ‘Why haven’t I fallen in love with you yet?'”
Bassett said she laughed nervously but Matthews kept making comments to the makeup artist. “Keep putting makeup on her, I’ll fall in love with her,” Matthews allegedly said.

Bassett said she decided to write the op-ed because of a “sexist” interview Matthews did with Sen. Elizabeth Warren after last week’s South Carolina Democratic debate in which he pressed Warren about her accusation that former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg once told a woman at his company to “kill” her unborn baby. Bloomberg has denied that accusation.
Bassett said she wrote a similar op-ed in 2017 without naming Matthews because she was afraid to publicly accuse him at the time. She said she decided to come forward and name the MSNBC host because of the way he treated Warren, while a feminist group also called for Matthews’ firing over the interview in which he asked Warren why Bloomberg would lie.

The NY Post calls it an inside job:
“An MSNBC insider told The Post Matthews’ recent gaffes contributed to his sudden departure.
“Chris was already on his way out because of his comments about Sanders, and his interview with Elizabeth Warren,” the network insider said. “NBC and MSNBC will not tolerate any inappropriate behavior.”
Another MSNBC insider said network executive Phil Griffin told Matthews this weekend in Washington, DC that “he had to resign or retire immediately.”
“The news was kept a secret at the network until around 6 p.m. on Monday when all the senior staff were informed Matthews would retire at the top of his show, at 7 p.m.,” the insider said.”

Thin-skin Sanders cannot tolerate criticism? Hmm, that brings to mind Emperor Xi (before whom critics disappear or wind-up in prison) and Czar Putin (before whom investigative journalists and opponents, where not thrown in prison, — wind-up dead!). Candidate Sanders, the Bolshevik, “blasts” critics. Shudder to consider what Bernie the Red would do as El Presidente. At best, destination “reeducation” camp; at worst, disappearance off the map! Unleashed, his young radical “Red Guards” to deal with his detractors?
As for Mr. Matthews, no fan (Mr. Levin often has railed against him), apparently brought down by a long knife. A warning to others, to tow-the-line (Party or otherwise). Do your master’s bidding or suffer the consequences: humiliating reprimand — or downfall.

AG Bill Barr is requesting a clean FISA renewal with no reforms or revisions. Senate Leader Mitch McConnell and Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham support the AG request.
Representatives requesting FISA reform prior to renewal include: Mark Meadows, Jim Jordan, Doug Collins, Jody Rice, Devin Nunes and Steve Scalise. Additionally, Senators Mike Lee, Ted Cruz and Senator Rand Paul are trying to force reform or let the current version expire. The American people want it scrapped, or, at a minimum strongly revised.
Congress is trying to hide the FISA renewal within the Coronavirus appropriations bill.

The U.S. constitution’s fourth amendment is being violated by the continued abuse of bulk metadata collection, particularly when private contractors and government officials illegally access the system. The 2016 FISA review (party declassified in 2017) and the 2018 FISA review (party declassified in 2019) both show ongoing and systematic wrong doing despite all prior corrective action and promises.

Ratings in the trash heap since all these programs have to say is Trump bashing and after while people are tuning it out. No plot, no story, just bashing. Pretty much depressing to watch. Listening to program like Rush Limbaugh or mark Levin is just the opposite, and they tell some good stories once in a while.

First beef, he compares himself to Bogart. I’m glad he had such a great time spouting propaganda and having meetings to discuss just how to spew forth that propaganda. Wow, quite a goal in life. What an accomplishment! He received his info from newspapers. Ha! Let me guess that WaPo was one of them. Gee it must have been hard work reading the paper every morning with breakfast. Never heard of anyone working that hard before. Lastly, I’m glad that another swamp creature is gone even if he is a very small small creature.

Almost unbelievable that what most would consider to be a compliment is today a firing offence. Yes I know that this woman’s reaction is not all women, but it does paint all women with the same brush. Would it have been better had Chris told her that she looks like an old war horse, which is probably closer to the truth.

And Matthews was finally on the right side questioning Warren……the pro choice advocate of abortions up to birth, targeting Bloomberg on his supposed advocacy of the same? And freaking out because Matthews showed his cards about Sanders and his love of communism? Playing around with Bernie’s “democratic socialism” is a lie.

I am not a fan of Chris Matthews; however, his so-called retirement based on his utterance comparing the rise of Nazism via Bernie Sanders. His apology at the time was gutless, but his master’s voice was the final nail in his career’s coffin but hopefully, that of the propaganda enterprise, MSNBC. The so-called sexist, misogynistic doing, is another coffin, this time in MSNBC’s coffin.
The Leftist’s rule by political correctness has, in my opinion, confirmed MSNBC is, as is the entirety of the mainstream news, purely propagandist. Shallow and biased reporting to soothe the dullard Leftists’ penchant for contrived, fake-news.
