LA’s cannabis dispensaries deemed ‘essential’ under emergency coronavirus order

LOS ANGELES — The “safer at home” emergency order just announced by Los Angeles County and the cities within its borders at a Thursday evening news conference requires all indoor malls, shopping centers, playgrounds and nonessential retail businesses to close effective midnight tonight through at least April 19.

Allowed to operate — as long as they observe proper social-distancing guidelines and do not include more than 10 people in one place — are a list of essential services including city and county government services, grocery stores, hardware stores and, wait for it, cannabis dispensaries.

Unlike the confusion surrounding cannabis businesses in the Bay Area “shelter in place” order that was announced Monday (which had dispensaries closing only to open the next day after a handful of cities — including San Francisco and San Jose — clarified that they could remain open), the city of Los Angeles’ coronavirus FAQ lists as essential healthcare services “cannabis dispensaries, or any related and/or ancillary healthcare services.”

The actual order issued by the county of Los Angeles reads slightly differently, noting that the order does not apply to healthcare organizations including “cannabis dispensaries with a medicinal cannabis license,” though at the news conference announcing the order, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said (though not in reference to this particular issue) that the cities and the county had worked hard to ensure that the details of the order were not in conflict.

There’s lots of tax dollars in marijuana “medical” sales that’s what makes them indispensable.

Colorado medical sales are untaxed, but personal use is around 20%. So, everyone runs to Dr. Feelgood and gets a prescription.
Just imagine the squealing we’d hear if marijuana, which contains FAR more carcinogens than tobacco, was taxed at the same level as tobacco cigarettes.
300%- 700% tax, depending on the state.
Those squealing about a 20% tax …. how’d they like 700%?

I’ve read marijuana is more damaging to your lungs than smoking cigarettes. People pushing it don’t care about that. They want kids and adults drugged up and amoral.

Drugs give users a mind altering vacation from reality. A drug addict will do anything for drugs Who knows – it could be the new enticement for druggies to vote for DEMS over the old fashioned cheap bottle of wine.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), THC affects things like thinking, memory, pleasure, movements, concentration, coordination, and sensory and time perception. For these reasons, doing things like operating heavy machinery or driving while under the influence of the drug may be dangerous.

My friend lives down the street from a Los Angeles “medical” marijuana dispensary, since these businesses are primarily cash they’re frequently robbed and there was a gun battle at the one down the street from his house some ten years ago.

Yeah and more screwed up people, After while they can’t hold down a job, get fired, try to get on benefits and if they can’t do that resort to selling their bodies or other crimes. Oh, in CA, minors can legally be prostitutes.

California Democrats legalize child prostitution
by Travis Allen
December 29, 2016 01:58 PM

Beginning on Jan. 1, prostitution by minors will be legal in California. Yes, you read that right.

SB 1322 bars law enforcement from arresting sex workers who are under the age of 18 for soliciting or engaging in prostitution, or loitering with the intent to do so. So teenage girls (and boys) in California will soon be free to have sex in exchange for money without fear of arrest or prosecution.

Food for thought – It destroys your cognitive ability.
People who indulge can’t see it but others around them can.
Don’t be fooled!

Liquor stores as essential I can see. After all, they have drive-up windows to accommodate “social distancing”. But head shops? Nah.

God did not make any people that needed marijuana. We need food, water and sunshine, but no mind altering drugs.
