Joe Biden Says He’ll ‘Appoint’ First Black Woman to the ‘Senate’
Former Vice President Joe Biden on Friday committed yet another gaffe on the campaign trail, pledging to “appoint” the first black woman to the “Senate,” seemingly forgetting that two black women have served in the upper chamber.

Story continues below advertisement“I’m looking forward to appointing the first African American woman to the United States Senate,” Biden, 77, said in a stump speech in Sumter, South Carolina, prompting cheers from supporters. Biden appeared to ignore that Sen. Carol Moseley Braun (D-IL) served as the first black female senator from 1993 to 1999, while Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) was the second black woman to be elected to the upper chamber in 2017.
The confusing statement comes after Biden promised to nominate the first black woman to the Supreme Court if he wins the White House.
“When you’re get knocked down, get up, and everyone’s entitled to be treated with dignity — no matter what, no matter who they are,” Biden said during this week’s Democrat presidential primary debate in Charleston. “Also, that everyone should be represented. No one is better than me and I’m no better than everyone else.”
“We talked about the Supreme Court — I’m looking forward to making sure there’s a black woman on the Supreme Court to make sure we, in fact, get everyone represented,” the former vice president added.
It is unclear whether he mixed up the Senate and Supreme Court in his Friday remarks.
Biden’s confusing comment was one of a series of gaffes in recent days as the floundering White House candidate seeks to win Saturday’s South Carolina primary contest. The former vice president falsely claimed at this week’s debate that 150 million Americans have died from gun violence since 2007. Federal government data shows roughly 156,000 have died of firearm-related homicides.
On Monday, Biden mistakenly proclaimed that he is a “candidate for the United States Senate” and that people could “vote for the other Biden” if they prefer one of his White House rivals. Later that day, he falsely claimed that he worked on the 2016 Paris Climate Accord with former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping, who has been died for over 20 years.

A President doesn’t APPOINT a Senator They are voted in by their state and if there is a need to APPOINT one that is given to the GOVERNOR, not the PRESIDENT.To date, 10 African Americans have served in the United States Senate. In 1870 Hiram Revels of Mississippi became the first African American senator.
Five years later, Blanche K. Bruce of Mississippi took the oath of office. It would be nearly another century, 1967, before Edward Brooke of Massachusetts followed in their historic footsteps.
Carol Moseley Braun broke new ground in 1993, becoming the first African American woman to serve as U.S. senator.
In 2005 Barack Obama of Illinois became the fifth African American to serve and third to be popularly elected. Upon Obama’s resignation to become the nation’s first African American president, Roland Burris was appointed to fill the vacancy, becoming the sixth African American senator and the third to occupy the same Illinois Senate seat.
Tim Scott of South Carolina was appointed to fill a vacancy in 2013, becoming the first African American since Reconstruction to represent a southern state in the Senate. He won a special election in 2014 to complete the term and was elected to a full term in 2016. The appointment of Massachusetts senator William “Mo” Cowan on February 1, 2013, marked the first time that two African Americans have served simultaneously in the United States Senate.
Cory Booker of New Jersey became the ninth African American senator when he won a special election to replace Senator Frank Lautenberg on October 31, 2013. Booker won election to a full term in 2014.
Kamala Harris became California’s first African American senator on January 3, 2017, bringing the number of African Americans serving simultaneously to three and the total number of African American senators to 10.

Ethnicity:
*father – Jamaican [African, other]
*mother – Tamil IndianYes, she married an accomplished wealthy white guy. She married Douglass Ernhoff on 8/22/14. Ernhoff is a Jewish American lawyer who worked for the high brow, law firm Veneable LLP. in Los Angeles. He currently works as a partner for the entertainment law firm of DLA Piper LLC.
She seems to fall into the category of, she can’t do it herself so she married it. John Kerry, McShame and the guy from Texas that ran for President, Beto married for it instead of working for it. The reason I say that she married for money is because she is a shallow, vicious, devious, manipulator and couldn’t make it on merit as someone like Michele Bachmann did.
Prior to marriage, she dated an old black man, old enough to be her father, Willie Brown. He was a politically influential guy in San Francisco and I think he was also a mayor at one point. She used him to propel her political career and then dumped him.

4 years agoCreepy Joe’s ship has set sail without him. With so many embarrassing gaffes, you’d think a friend, family member, or someone from his campaign staff would reign him in, but he presses on undaunted, refusing to put the shovel down.
4 years agoIt is a very confusing comment. If Biden did mean the Senate, then not only is it not true, it is also not how Senators are chosen to serve. If it is finishing out the previous Senators term, then it is temporary, and it is done by either the governor of the state or the Legislature of that state. If it is for the full term, then it has to be done through a vote by the voters of that state. If Biden meant instead the Supreme Court, then it is correct that it has not been done yet, but the President only nominates, he does not appoint. The nominee is not appointed until he/she is approved by the U.S. Senate. So, the President nominates, and the Senate appoints!
4 years agoWhy are people encouraging him? I mean you can’t tell me that these people don’t see how he definitely has some form of or the start of dementia. Can you see him with foreign leaders? The way the media lies about the President and let’s every single thing with Biden slide makes me sick. He’s as crooked as they come! But on the bright side just a little? Ukraine is now investigating if Biden did have that prosecutor fired. Investigating him? Please he’s on video bragging about it. I know nothing will come of it but even if it makes things a little messy for him for awhile, that does kind of put a smile on my face.????
