Israel’s Defense Minister Posts Coronavirus Idea: Isolate the Elderly; Let Rest Become Infected, Immune
Israeli’s defense minister Naftali Bennet posted a video to social media on Friday suggesting that the country’s long-term strategy should involve most of the population becoming infected with, and immune to, coronavirus while isolating the elderly.
A vaccine would effectively achieve the same result, without people actually becoming sick, but that may be at least a year away, given the length of time it takes clinical trials — which have already started — to run their course.
Story continues below advertisementThe first step in Bennett’s plan, apparently, is to reduce the spread of coronavirus by practicing social distancing. But that cannot last forever, and pending the arrival of a vaccine, Bennett explained the next steps:
The most important thing — more than general social distancing; more than testing, testing, testing; is to separate old people from younger people. The single most lethal combination is when a grandma hugs her grandson. Why is that? Because corona is a unique virus, in the sense that it’s way more lethal for old people than for young people. In many countries, zero young people died. Countries that many people died have 0% or 0.1% of folks under the age of 30 or 20 [dead]. Where old people over the age of 80 and 70, one out of five, one out of seven of them that get the virus, die. So what we need to do over the next period of time is take care of grandma and grandpa, but from far away. Lots of WhatsApps and Skype, and you name it. Bring them food, clean the box before you leave, and then, they take it [into] their house. But do not enter the house: do not hug them, because you’re risking them. Finally, people ask me: so will the old people have to be isolated forever? The answer is no. What will happen over the next few months: gradually the rest of the population, want it or not, the rest of the population is going to get the coronavirus, most — the overwhelming majority of people that will get the coronavirus, won’t even know it. It will take three or four weeks, they won’t know they have the virus, and by the end of those four weeks, they will be immune. It will start with a tenth of a percent, 1%, 5%, 20%. When it reaches just about 60%, 70% of the population that will be immune, the epidemic is over, and then grandma and grandpa can come out. It might take a month, it might take two or three months, might take a bit more, but that’s the plan. Good luck. Take care of grandma and grandpa.

Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen directed U.S. attorneys, department heads, and law enforcement chiefs around the country to focus their efforts on prosecuting pandemic-related crimes in a memo on Tuesday. One of the categories of offenses Rosen said offices may encounter involves individuals who may engage in the “purposeful exposure and infection of others with COVID-19.”
“Because coronavirus appears to meet the statutory definition of a ‘biological agent’ … such acts potentially could implicate the nation’s terrorism-related statutes,” Rosen wrote in the memo obtained by The Epoch Times. “Threats or attempts to use COVID-19 as a weapon against Americans will not be tolerated.”

Hey, John, you know me, I’m technical first, and political when I run out of useful facts. The factual problem is that there is a debate still raging over the genetics of Covid-19, and where it came from. Some virologists insist that Covid-19 could not have come from a lab, because of the way it is structured. Others insist that it could not have come from the wild, and it must have come from a lab. And right now, I’m not taking sides, and just watching the fight go on.
In the meantime, it IS clear to me that the ChiComs knew since mid-November that there was an epidemic underway, and they let thousands die while they did nothing about the spread. Because they did not quarantine and shut down air travel, they endangered the planet. And that is criminal.

I would call that a lesser included offense,but the charge is still first degree mass murder and I feel confident I could persuade a jury to return a verdict based on history and circumstantial evidence I have to date been able to examine.

Would also be good to know what % of population had virus but were asymptomatic. Need blood test to determine. Then possibly those individuals can go back to normal activity.

I too had that idea, but there are several problems.
. We don’t know how long and how effective immunity will be
. There isn’t any way to identify everyone who is at risk
. How will at risk be protected?

This is what happened in Iceland, people carried the virus and didn’t know , self-immunizing. In other words one you see the huge numbers of those who contracted the virus compared to the death-rate it puts things in perspective. Two doctors from Stanford wrote about a similar discovery.

Isn’t that what the UK had decided to do? And now they have reversed that policy because their health system has become completely overwhelmed. Boris admits the UK is about 2-3 weeks behind the catastrophy that is happening in Italy. It doesn’t matter what your age is, if you are unable to breathe and there is no ventilator or technician to care for you, you die.

Some viruses only convey a very short immunity, before you can be infected again. Dengue Fever is one of them. You have less than 2 months immunity, before the next mosquito bite infects you again.

Corona viruses mutate, like most others, easily, so we can expect it, however, our bodies get familiar with the “novel” kind and thereafter, mutations have a lesser effect. This is similar to the Flu A and B types, which mutate each year, and labs alter the vaccines, but our body recognizes the type IN GENERAL and overcomes the mutation, which is similar. This novel corona came from an animal and was never intended to invade human flesh, but our bodies are a marvel and can win over it, given time.

Amen! I won’t pretend I have access to the information about this on President Trump’s level. But it did occur to me that schools should not have been shut down. This was a golden opportunity for mass numbers of children to get a mild case from which they would quickly recover, and develop herd immunity. The elderly, those with cancer, diabetes, COPD, heart disease, etc. could be the ones to keep their distance.

Not a good idea…you can never know how ill someone could get even if young. Better idea would be, at least let people under the age of 50 w/o medical issues go back to work PLUS continue usual practices of avoiding contact and practice hand hygiene PLUS have a readily available supply of at least Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) and Zithromax before exposing people to infection. All people who get infected should be treated. Other new anti-viral therapy is still in the pipeline of clinical trials like Remdesivir which will be more costly. The problem that has to be solved first is that the well-established, cheap but promising drug like Plaquenil (but not studied per rigorous scientific protocol) is in short supply in the U.S. because of hoarding and inappropriate prescribing by doctors. Hopefully also because Doctors are using common sense and are in fact prescribing it to anyone who tests positive for COVID19.

I deal with plant viruses that are spread mechanically transmitted (contact spread). In a greenhouse setting, it can be very difficult to stop the spread. Not impossible but nonetheless very difficult. Covid19 is spread by contact and through the air. Throw in transmissibility prior to symptom development for about 4 days, some people being asymptomatic carriers, and people who do not follow social distancing out of habit or just being idiots; Covid19 is impossible to stop in my opinion. Those at risk need to be isolated until a treatment or vaccine is developed and the rest of us need to get on with our lives. Try to be as careful as possible since getting sick with something like the flu is not pleasant. Just assume that you are going to get it eventually though. (Many won’t and you could be pleasantly surprised.) But 99+% of us who do get infected will survive and recover. Better this approach than to crash the economy and hurt everyone. But no one has put me in charge, lol.
