Trump Sues The New York Time For Libel Over Russia Hoax

By James Murray, MAGA Daily, February 26, 2020

President Trump is suing The New York Times for libel over the Russia hoax and it is about time.

Story continues below advertisement

Trump is claiming the New York newspaper knowingly published false information about Trump and Russia in an op-ed last year.

The lawsuit, filed in New York State Supreme Court accuses the Times of intentionally defaming Trump with the op-ed piece by asserting that his 2016 campaign had an “overarching deal” with Russia.

“The statements were and are 100 percent false and defamatory,” Jenna Ellis, a lawyer for Trump said.

“The complaint alleges The Times was aware of the falsity at the time it published them, but did so for the intentional purpose of hurting the campaign while misleading its own readers in the process,” Ellis added.

The lawsuit reads:

“Defendant The New York Times Company d/b/a The New York Times (“The Times”) knowingly published false and defamatory statements of and concerning plaintiff Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. (the “Campaign”), claiming it had an “overarching deal” with “Vladimir Putin’s oligarchy” to “help in the campaign against Hillary Clinton” in exchange for “a new pro-Russian foreign policy, starting with relief from the Obama administration’s burdensome economic sanctions.”

The Times was well aware when it published these statements that they were not true. The Times’ own previous reporting had confirmed the falsity of these statements.

But The Times published these statements anyway, knowing them to be false, and knowing it would misinform and mislead its own readers, because of The Times’ extreme bias against and animosity toward the Campaign, and The Times’ exuberance to improperly influence the presidential election in November 2020.

The Campaign therefore files this lawsuit to: publicly establish the truth, properly inform The Times’ readers (and the rest of the world) of the true facts, and seek appropriate remedies for the harm caused by The Times’ intentional false reporting.

The Times has engaged in a systematic pattern of bias against the Campaign, designed to maliciously interfere with and damage its reputation and seek to cause the organization to fail.

On or about March 27, 2019, The Times published an article by Max Frankel entitled “The Real Trump-Russia Quid Pro Quo” (the “Defamatory Article”), which claims, among other things, that “There was no need for detailed electoral collusion between the Trump campaign and Vladimir Putin’s oligarchy because they had an overarching deal: the quid of help in the campaign against Hillary Clinton for the quo of a new pro-Russian foreign policy, starting with relief from the Obama administration’s burdensome economic sanctions. The Trumpites knew about the quid and held out the prospect of the quo.” On information and belief, The Times published the Defamatory Article in The Times’ print and online editions.

The Defamatory Article does not allege or refer to any proof of its claims of a “quid pro quo” or “deal” between the Campaign and Russia. Rather, the Defamatory Article selectively refers to previously-reported contacts between a Russian lawyer and persons connected with the Campaign. The Defamatory Article, however, insinuates that these contacts must have resulted in a quid pro quo or a deal, and the Defamatory Article does not acknowledge that, in fact, there had been extensive reporting, including in The Times, that the meetings and contacts that the Defamatory Article refers to did not result in any quid pro quo or deal between the Campaign and Russia, or anyone connected with either of them.

In as much as the NYT is a total waste of time I don’t think a public figure like the president can sue. He surely hAs the right to drag the Times through the dirt.

If malice can be proven, then yes … a public figure may sue. It’s difficult to prove malice. And, then to throw in known falsity and/or reckless disregard.
In other words, the newspaper could claim that they were so stupid as to not know the truth.

If the libel laws were strengthened like Trump wants, Geller Report would be sued out of existence.

Uh most of them. Probably even this one. They recently ran an article called “Bernie loves Fidel.” Total BS. In the same speech they quoted, he said he opposed the Cuban dictatorship.

Which parts of this one are false exactly?
I searched PG with the term ‘Bernie loves Fidel’ and came up with ‘Sorry, but nothing matched your search terms. Please try again with some different keywords.’
Did your article have a different title?

Here it is. It used the heart emoji instead of the word “loves.” That’s probably why you couldn’t find it.

Hi and thanks for taking the trouble to get back with the link.
Quite how much Bernie ‘loves’ Castro is debatable, he certainly admires the literacy and health programs. It’s disturbing to many that he doesn’t seem to have taken the trouble to research the means by which Fidel gained absolute power and maintained his grip on Cuba for decades. The dark side of his regime – which seems to have become a monarchy …. the accounts of his victims and their struggles to escape can’t be ignored.
Having said that the world of Batista and his thugs had to change.
I come from a working class factory worker background and was puzzled about the way society was structured. Marxism seemed to explain my situation.
I read an inspiring account of the Cuban revolution a long time ago and as a person interested in revolution and Communism I felt that Castro was good for Cuba.
At that time I wasn’t really aware of any of the negative aspects of the 20th century revolutions and saw them all as positive. I was not informed of the death tolls in Russia, China and elsewhere but I gradually learned that all was not well in the people’s utopias.
I had to take a long look at what I believed, why I believed it, who was providing my information and what their motivation was.
It had its funny side, when attending a regular Marxist meeting in my city I was surprised to discover there was another Marxist meeting group in the next room. When I asked another attendee why there were two Marxist groups in the same building I was told that the second guy had formed the second group after disagreeing with the first guy on some point. It could have been a satirical comedy sketch.
Unfortunately the debate gets heated and skewed with exaggerations on both sides, confirmation bias takes hold and facts get distorted and lost in the smoke and mirrors.
I can’t see Bernie’s policies working out, he hasn’t checked his ideas for decades it seems and can’t debate without losing his temper when confronted with his contradictions.
There are lots of issues that have surfaced since 2016 concerning corruption, 9/11, terrorism, poverty, borders etc. and they are tossed around as talking points. One has to stand well back, check sources, examine people’s motivations and contradictions and political records to assess what’s going on.
Geller is just one of my many news sources and I do cross check on some issues, RT, Al Jazeera, the BBC, Fox, YouTube, Facebook, Sky etc. all provide information of some sort and the truth pops up more often than not.
It’s all food for thought – but very time consuming.
Once again, thanks for getting back. 🙂

I have heard Crazy Bernie praising Fidel and how great Cuba is. He specifically mentioned a literacy program in the quote I heard, and it was Crazy Bernie speaking. I know it is a waste of time to respond to a troll such as yourself, but what the heck.

I hope he WINS.

I don’t know how the law works when a public figure is involved but what went on is horrendous. He should also go after CNN and the rest of the lying media to make them ACCOUNTABLE for the lies they tell.

The DemonRats have a long history of colluding with Russia until Putin stopped fully co-operating with them after they murdered Gaddafi. If you look into most nuclear proliferation deals you will find DemonRats insisting that all stock piles of uranium be sent to Russia. DemonRats also visit the Kremlin for secret meetings on a regular basis.

The top dog of the Dog Fart Media is the NYT. Holding them liable for fake news and fabrications will strike fear through the boardrooms of the media giants. If this lawsuit can survive the inevitable motion for summary judgment by the NYT it will enter into discovery which may reveal who exactly is giving the orders at the NYT. The answer may well surprise all of us.
