President Trump expands travel ban to six new countries

“It is fundamental to national security, and the height of common sense.” Two things the Democrats deplore.

Trump expands travel ban to six new countries

President Trump signed an order Friday expanding his travel ban to six new countries, targeting nations the government says pose a threat because they don’t issue electronic passports or don’t do enough to share information with American authorities to vet their citizens looking to travel.

By Washington Examiner, February 1, 2020:

Story continues below advertisement

The six countries are Burma, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria, Sudan and Tanzania. They join seven countries who are still part of the president’s previous travel ban: Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen.

“It is fundamental to national security, and the height of common sense, that if a foreign nation wishes to receive the benefits of immigration and travel to the United States, it must satisfy basic security conditions outlined by America’s law-enforcement and intelligence professionals,” said White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham.

The new countries aren’t subject to a total ban.

Only immigrant applications from Burma, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan and Nigeria will be blocked, while other travelers are not affected. For Sudan and Tanzania, only applicants under the diversity visa program will be blocked, a Homeland Security official said.

That means businesses can still bring in temporary workers and family members can still visit relatives here.

The official said the lower level of ban reflects the countries’ conditions.

“These six countries have a greater prospect of making improvements,” the official said.

The additional ban will take effect Feb. 22, so nobody traveling now will be affected, nor will those who already have visas. Anyone already in the U.S. is unaffected, too.

Based on past trends, Homeland Security said perhaps 12,000 people would be affected by the expanded ban.

Immigrant-rights groups complained that the expanded ban could harm vulnerable people.

“We are particularly concerned about Burmese refugees who may see America’s doors closed to them at a time of desperate need — including thousands of ethnic Chin, Karen, and Muslim Rohingya, who have fled severe persecution,” said Krish O’Mara Vignarajah, president of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service

Government officials said refugees are not affected.

Mr. Trump issued his first travel ban Jan. 27, 2017, on seven majority-Muslim countries, virtually banning all entry of citizens from those countries.

That derided as a “Muslim ban,” and was halted by federal judges.

Mr. Trump would make two subsequent revisions to narrow the ban and alter the countries covered, deleting some of the original nations and adding in two non-Muslim nations, North Korea and Venezuela.

The Supreme Court in 2018 ruled that version of the ban was legal on its face — though it left room for challenges on how the ban was carried out. Those challenges are still making their way through lower courts.

Homeland Security officials defended the new additions to the list, saying they were added after an extensive review of every country’s vulnerabilities and willingness to share information with the U.S. so that their citizens looking to travel to the U.S. can be properly vetted.

“DHS and the Department of State have informed each of the six countries about their specific deficiencies,” a Homeland Security official said, adding that countries can earn their way off the list by improving their cooperation.

That happened in April 2018 when Chad made enough improvements to be dropped from the travel ban, the official said.

Congress refuses to END the diversity lottery. These are people from countries we don’t normally get immigrants from and their countries do not want them. I really don’t know if this has changed but they were unvetted or poorly vetted if at all. Many of these Muslim terrorists attacks have been diversity lottery recipients. Then chain migration happens.

How insulting to have a lottery for people to get green cards when people play by the rules, patiently wait their turn for years, spend tons of money on lawyers fees to come here legally Those who have the least to offer are favored and those that have the most to offer are pushed away.

The idea had been to only let unskilled people in and let them work their way up. The assumption was legal Americans would keep moving up. That is not usually the case as people are dumbed down. We also have VISA abuse where skilled and educated people displace legal American citizens because they work cheaper. The net result is legal Americans are squeezed out and replaced.

And, felix1999, many of the “skilled and educated” were in no way, shape, or form “skilled and educated”. They had to be trained by the Americans from whom they stole the jobs.

More fluff! John Binder over on Breitbart had an article yesterday about this. 216,000 people were admitted since the first ban supposedly went into effect. That is, from the countries on the ban!

Trump does not stand in an airport and stop people in person. It is up to bureaucrats to do it. 50 thousand people work at the State Department. They over see Immigration, Customs and who gets in here. There are thousands of career appointed slugs in the Bureau of Population Immigration and Refugees, a division of the State dept. and they do not care what Trump does or says.

These bans are for mass consumption by the Trump Cultists and not indicative of reality, evidently. They make people feel good that there is something being done when there isn’t!

Look it up for yourselves. I am tired of dropping links!

Career bureacrats could care less. They don’t do any work.
They contract the work out to over paid contractors and the bureaucrats oversee them. I get delirious thinking of the money we could save by laying off half of them, firing contractors and making the lazy bureacrats work for a change. I am sure you are aware of their juicy pensions that WE also pay for….. It’s outrageous and now they have “family leave” courtesy of bimbo Ivanka.

I live on the border. I can take you to places where there is no wall or believable barricade. Oh, maybe a rusting, coiling string of barbed-wire lying on the ground. And the border patrol (more licensed agents of the ‘state’) will threaten you, shoo you off, shoot down your personal drone that may have a video recording devise. Yes, I voted for Trump, but don’t trust him any more than anyone else in ‘gubmint’, sitting (mostly sitting on their asses), or retired (hey, Dodd and Frank, where ya a-hiding?). Yeah, I tend to go all Huck Finn when I get worked up. Sorry, not sorry.

Naturally the DEMS are AGAINST THIS!
Pelois, normal people don’t want MUSLIM TERRORISTS here.
DEMS see people by RACE because they are RACISTS.
If it is a MUSLIM then they only see them by “religion” and need to be protected.

Top Democrats fume after Trump expands travel ban to six new countries
Adam Shaw By Adam Shaw | Fox News 2/1/20

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was one of a number of top Democrats to rip into President Trump’s decision to expand the travel ban to include six more countries on Friday — with Pelosi describing it as “discrimination disguised as policy.”

“The Trump administration’s expansion of its outrageous, un-American travel ban threatens our security, our values and the rule of law,” she said in a statement. “The sweeping rule, barring more than 350 million individuals from predominantly African nations from traveling to the United States, is discrimination disguised as policy.”

The Trump administration is expanding restrictions to include Burma, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria, Tanzania and Sudan. Those are added to the current seven countries already included in the ban: Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen.

But after multiple court challenges, the Supreme Court upheld its constitutionality in 2018.

It is still weak.

Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Egypt, Morocco, India and Pakistan are missing.

In four years Trump will have to add, Germany, France, Britain, Norway and Sweden.

“Immigrant-rights groups complained that the expanded ban could harm vulnerable people.”

Put them in a safe zone but outside the country.
I don’t know why “automatic citizenship” to potential anti-semites is such a top priority for clueless “humanitarians”.

Instead of the ridiculous “anti- muslime” and other crybaby labels hung on Trump’s travel ban, try reading 8 US Code Section 1182 entitled “Inadmissible Aliens”, specifically Part 3 Item B, “Security and Related Grounds”. The first criteria listed is disease.
