Mitt Romney Leaks Impeachment Vote to Reporter Who Mocked Him in 2012

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) leaked advance news of his vote to convict President Donald Trump on one of two articles of impeachment to McKay Coppins, the same reporter who mocked Romney during his run for president in 2012.

By Breitbart News, February 5, 2020:

Story continues below advertisement

As Romney stood to speak in the Senate, Coppins, who writes for The Atlantic, published his scoop, “How Mitt Romney Decided Trump Is Guilty.”

Coppins revealed that Romney reached out to him personally and directly, inviting him to his office in the Senate on Tuesday — the day before the vote — to reveal his decision, embargoed until his speech.

The irony is rich. In 2012, Coppins, then working for Buzzfeed, was caught on a hot mic telling another reporter before Romney took the stage at a campaign event just days before the election was to be held.

As Politico reported at the time:

BuzzFeed reporter McKay Coppins was picked up on a hot mic at today’s Mitt Romney event in Kettering, Ohio, saying there was “at least a 40 percent chance” that the candidate would “say something stupid.”

The remark, picked up on a pool feed, drew some attention among other reporters on Twitter, but Coppins was quick to run damage control: “Looks like my snide comment, caught on livestream, was wrong,” he tweeted. “Romney got the tone just right at this event in Dayton.”

It is unclear why Romney personally summoned Coppins to break news of his vote to convict.

In September 2019, the week Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced an impeachment inquiry into President Trump, this reporter predicted that Romney would vote to convict the president.

Romney delivered a blistering attack on Trump in the middle of the 2016 Republican primary — but failed to endorse an alternative, leading observers to speculate that he was merely raising his own profile.

The former Republican nominee later sought a position in Trump’s cabinet as Secretary of State, and did not receive it. He later courted Trump’s endorsement for his U.S. Senate run in 2018, and received it.

Last year, Romney was discovered to have created a fake Twitter account, “Pierre Delecto,” to promote himself.

The Senate is not expected to vote to convict and remove Trump from office in the final vote Wednesday.

I know many Buddhists. I lived for a few months at a monastery in Cholla Nam Do, ROK. All of the priests, that I knew, drank. Some moderately. Some drank enough soju to float a battleship. But, none of them were teetotalers.

There are many different sects within Buddhism and their practices vary wildly. While exploring Buddhism I came across one sect that among their rules of behaviour was “one shall not overly utilise prostitutes.” I might have been tempted but I cannot afford them anyway. 🙂

All of the priests were celibate. Perhaps, that’s why some of ’em drank so much.

Celibacy doesn’t necessarily mean abstinence, ask any pedophile priest?

The pederast priests were not celibate. They simply broke their vows … but, with little boys, as opposed to women. There’s a special place in hell for them.

Agreed. Speaking of which, remember Trump endorsed Romney in his bid for his Senate seat. Trump is sure to remind him about that today.

The reason is clear. It’s crystalline. Coppins swallows.

Romey’s LDS/Mormon leadership is sympathetic to Islam. LDS leaders cite their similarities with Islam as including more recent prophets, more recent prophecy, holy books that evolved after the Bible, belief that both sects were/are unfairly persecuted, and several other disturbing similarities. So yes, Romney may be “deeply religious” and based his impeachment vote on his “faith”…but… What is his said “faith” really leading him to believe?

I would not be surprised that part of Romney’s hatred of Trump is Trump’s attempts and successes in reducing immigration from Muslim-dominated nations. Romney’s religion is both a cover and an excuse for his Trump hatred.

Why would anybody put something about Mitt Romney in the news? I didn’t like him years ago and I still don’t like him. He’s not really a Republican just like John McCain and it’s like having a spouse that you know is cheating on your marriage but they keep telling everybody they are happily married to you. I define Romney as a scum-bag chameleon.

Agreed. Remember in the 2012 campaign when Romney was caught in a “hot mic” moment making that insipid remark about how 47% of the US electorate hated him? That number just got boosted into the stratosphere.

What a farce Romney has become. Always jealous of Trump because he won and Romney lost in his bid for the WH. He lost to the Halfrican, the worst president ever.

He also tried to use Biblical precepts in detailing why he was going to vote against Trump, detailing it to Fox News’ Chris Wallace, the same guy who, along with Megan Kelly, pulled that chicken sh*t Pearl Harbor job on canidate Trump in the 2016 primary debates.

Though Romney tried using the Bible to justify himself, he still fits the classical Biblical description of a Pharisee, the persecutors of Christ.

They accused him of using derogatory terms regarding women as “pigs” and “dogs”. His snappy comeback was that he only used those terms to describe Rosie O’Donnell.

So from Trump deranged media coverage we know the Democrats literally want
Trump dead, even to kill him and even to imprison him after his presidency. And
Mit Romney does what??? He steps up and declared he wants the Trump presidency
dead too, as in out of the White House gone, get out. He voted to remove Trump
for abuse of power – even thought there was no evidence. Making Romney the
stupidest Senator in US history trying to get rid of the President whose
endorsement he begged for when he ran for the Senate.

Romneyi s now more famous than Benedict Arnold…because few know Benedict Arnold
but everyone will Remember Mitt Romney.
Most Americans and Mormons will say
“Pursue Wisdom Son” don’t be a Mitt Romney.

Seriously Mitt Romney needs to resign in disgrace that is all that is left
for him – resign before the People of Utah recall him.

Donald Trump needs to apologize to the people of Utah for having endorsed
Romney.

Can’t wait until Trump tweets that.

I’m sure Romney’s pockets have been well and truly lined so he doesn’t give a damn. But I would have him in my office if I was Donald and savage him in front of his staff for treason. Then do all I could to curb his ‘perks.’.

Mitt Romney made his decision on voting for impeachment on the President’s “moral obligations to the American people”, and his using his office for personal gain!!! Which is not true!!
What gets me is that this comment is coming from a person that’s company “Bain Capital” would drive companies into bankruptcy and profit from the business’s closure that buy out the foreclosed company.
Many companies went bankrupt and many people lost their job’s because of Romney “Moral obligations” to the American people!!!

I voted for him in 2012 because I felt he was better than Obola. Same for McCain.
Both proved to be RINOs. Possibly hand picked by G. Soros (types) to make sure Obola elected.
Obola was a terrible POTUS for USA. But Obola was a great POTUS for the enemies of USA.
Disgusting.
And now the d-RAT party is top to bottom ALL lefty scum.
