McConnell tees up five Trump judges after impeachment trial wraps

The Hill, February 6, 2020:

Story continues below advertisement

With the weeks-long impeachment trial ending Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is wasting no time turning the chamber’s focus back to his self-professed top priority: confirming judicial nominations.

McConnell teed up five judicial nominations for votes on the Senate floor as the chamber wrapped up its work for the week.
The Senate is expected to take its first procedural vote on the slate Monday evening, when Republicans will need a simple majority to end the debate on Andrew Brasher’s nomination to be a judge on the 11th Circuit.

Once Brasher is confirmed, the Senate will turn to the nominations of Joshua Kindred, Matthew Schelp, Joshua Kness and Philip Halpern, all of whom have been picked to be U.S. district judges.

The Senate could easily fit all five nominations into its schedule for next week.
Under a rules change enacted last year, district court nominees need only an additional two hours of debate once they overcome an initial procedural hurdle.
The Senate has confirmed 187 judicial nominees for President Trump since he took office, including two Supreme Court picks.
If all five are confirmed, that would bring the total number of Trump judicial nominees confirmed since 2017 to 192.
Judicial nominations are a top priority for Republicans, particularly given the divided government. McConnell, even when Republicans controlled the House, argued judges were the party’s best shot at having a long-term influence on the direction of the country.

It’s what Trump does. Now it is up to us to find another to carry on, after 2024.

Not familiar with the laws over there but can a two term president then be a VP? Pence Trump 2024? If not, maybe Donald Junior? Pity Barron won’t be old enough for many years. Imagine the left dealing with President Barron Trump?

Impossible by the constitution!

“It also stipulates that to be the vice president, a person must be qualified to be the president.”

the VP is the first in line to replace the President.

Pence would lose as President. Pence is an establishment idiot with no courage. Don Jr, might be good.

I doubt Trump would want to serve as a VP. I don’t know if he could… I suspect he could…

I don’t believe that POTUS should or would accept the come down to VP. In the best case, the VP is just carrying out someone else’s orders. I am not a Pence fan. I think he is also a globalist that Soros could work with fairly well. Just my opinion, though. In American we Christian conservatives have been trained to automatically lean toward anyone who self identifies as Christian and can act the part. I have been guilty of that in the past. My discernment is becoming more finely tuned.

Only if the Democrats do not get enough control of the House and the Senate to where they can override a President’s veto. If they get the Congress and a President, they have it made where SCOTUS is concerned. If they do, they have suggested increasing the number of Justices, in other words packing the Supreme Court.

The judges being appointed was the MAIN reason Pelosi did the impeachment, then stalled on sending over the articles, and the Dems tried getting witnesses. All of this was a stall because the Constitution says that when there is an impeachment, the Senate will set aside ALL other business until the impeachment trial concludes. That would’ve allowed the Dems to stall all other DJT judicial appointees until their attempt to steal the election. Of special concern for the Demonic Death Cult party is a new Supreme Court appointee once the ACLU Hag Ginsburg croaks and goes back to hell any week now.

When that old bat, RBG, departs from the SCOTUS, Trump should appoint the very loyal, talented and conservative Pam Bondi to replace her. Also, not that it matters in legal matters, but Pam is rather easy on the straight males’ eyes…..
