Terrorists Attack Military Base in Kenya Hosting U.S. Soldiers

(UPI) — Al-Shabab, a Somali terror group linked to al-Qaeda, attacked a military base Sunday morning in Kenya that houses some American military personnel, U.S. and Kenyan military said.
Al-Shabab is a Sunni Muslim group and is not linked to Shiite Iran. Last week, a U.S. airstrike killed Iran’s top military commander and Iran vowed retaliation.
At approximately 5:30 a.m., Kenya Defense Forces said terrorists attempted to breach security at the Manda Bay Airfield, which is near the border with Somalia. “The attempted breach was successfully repulsed. Four terrorists bodies have so far been found,” the Kenyan military posted on Twitter.
U.S. Africa Commandsaid the airfield has been “cleared and still in the process of being full secured.” There was damage to the infrastructure and equipment, and a check of personnel is underway.
“U.S. Africa Command acknowledges there was an attack at Manda Bay Airfield, Kenya and is monitoring the situation,” U.S Army Maj. Gen. William Gayler said in a statement. “Al-Shabab resorts to lies, coercion, and the exertion of force to bolster their reputation to create false headlines … It is important to counter al-Shabab where they stand to prevent the spread of this cancer.”
Earlier, al-Shabab said some of its fighters had launched “a daring dawn raid on a U.S. naval base known as ‘Camp Simba’ in Lamu County, Kenya,” according to the Tasnim News Agency in Iran.
Camp Simba is near the Manda Airstrip and where Western visitors to Kenya frequently visit.
Their fighters had taken control of a portion of the base and there were “severe casualties on both American and Kenyan troops stationed there.”
AFRICOM said the group has been “exaggerating the security situation on the ground.”
No number of Americans at the base was given.
The base been a site for U.S. special operations forces operating in Somalia. About 500 U.S. troops are in Somalia to assist and advise the nation’s military against the terror group.
“Al-Shabab is a brutal terrorist organization,” Gayler said. “It is an Al-Qaeda affiliate seeking to establish a self-governed Islamic territory in East Africa, to remove Western influence and ideals from the region, and to further its jihadist agenda. U.S. presence in Africa is critically important to counter-terrorism efforts.”
Africom noted this is the same terror group killed 80 people in Mogadishu, Somalia, last week.
The Somali government and U.S. Africa Command have conducted retaliatory airstrikes on al-Shabab target recently, according to a CNN report.

23 Comments4 years agoWhen these Islamic bandits emerge from Somalia to attack Kenya, I don’t understand why it is they’re not hunted down by helicopter from the nearest American base and exterminated by gunfire.
It’s this failure of western willpower to “do the maths” around issues of terror reduction by numbers reduction that is actually the dividend terrorists seek, they know by past reference that they’re not going to be swiftly followed and severely punished.because those with the means to deter spend time worrying about consequences instead.
4 years agoReply to PoppeyI used to wonder the same when ISIS were driving around the desert in captured UV’s, they seemed to go wherever they wanted in long convoys with impunity, filming propaganda videos as they went, why weren’t they destroyed by Apache’s as they were driving in convoy from one town to the next ? of course part of the reason was Obama was the President and maybe he was sympathetic to their aims.
4 years agoReply to PoppeyI think the burden of this shouldn’t be laid on the U.S.. Our debt is staggering and most of that debt is fighting in Muslim countries for other countries. The U.K. helps us but other countries need to get involved. Ironically Europe should be more involved and instead they WELCOME these deranged people and can’t seem to get enough of them.

Established the basic structure of today’s immigration law.
Abolished the national origins quota system (originally established in 1921 and most recently modified in 1952), while attempting to keep immigration to a manageable level. Family reunification became the cornerstone of U.S. immigration policy.Allocated 170,000 visas to countries in the Eastern Hemisphere and 120,000 to countries in the Western Hemisphere. This increased the annual ceiling on immigrants from 150,000 to 290,000. Each Eastern-Hemisphere country was allowed an allotment of 20,000 visas, while in the Western Hemisphere there was no per-country limit. This was the first time any numerical limitation had been placed on immigration from the Western Hemisphere. Non-quota immigrants and immediate relatives (i.e., spouses, minor children, and parents of U.S. citizens over the age of 21) were not to be counted as part of either the hemispheric or country ceiling.

Dadabb is a UNHRC refugee camp of about 250,000 Somalians in Kenya. Ilhan Omar spent years there before she came to the USA. The UN has tried to close it because of concerns that terrorists are training there in it!

4 years agoHating the infidels unites the competing Muslim sects for dominance. It they are successful, then they go back to fighting one another. Some retaliation is needed here too.. If we are giving AID to Kenya, WITHDRAW it. Kenya needs to be punished too. In fact any AID to Muslim countries needs to be reconsidered based on their reaction and actions on the death of this Muslim terrorist.
4 years agoReply to felix1999I would like to see us remove all foreign aid but I am in favor of sharing satellite info and other intelligence where we see harm coming. My impression of things is that Somalians are coming over the border and into villages. They have murdered some Christians and stolen goods. I don’t know that the government of Kenya supports this terrorism against its citizens at all. It is Muslims doing what they have been raised to do.
