Israel unveils revolutionary laser-based air defense system

Think the Iron Dome is impressive? Watch this! At a time when the Islamic Republic of Iran is firing their missiles with impunity, the value of this technology is clear. This new missile defense system should be operational by early 2021. Israel is Incredible!

Israel unveils revolutionary laser-based air defense system

The interception system is meant to down targets ranging from mortar fire and drones to Grad rockets and long-range missiles; it is also much more cost-efficient than the current favorite Iron Dome

By Ynet, January 8, 2019:

After decades of expensive experiments, failed projects and fruitless ventures, Israeli defense establishment unveiled its latest revolutionary technological achievement. The Ministry of Defense announced Wednesday it has successfully developed a laser-based air defense system.
The system is meant to intercept aerial threats ranging from as mortar fire, drones, medium range Grad rockets, anti-tank missiles as well as long-range missiles, currently at the disposal of Iran-backed terror groups in Syria and Lebanon.
The system is set to be tested in six months’ time at an undisclosed location in northern Israel. If the interception test is successful, the laser-based system will be dispatched for field use along Israel’s border with the Gaza Strip.
The laser, which was developed and manufactured by the government-owned Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Elbit Systems over the past decade, has so far proven its interception capabilities during comprehensive testing over its lengthy development cycle.
The plan is to extend the laser’s uses and mount its systems on armored vehicles and trucks meant for battlefields in order to protect ground troops in hostile territory. In addition, there are plans to install the system on the Israeli Air Force jets in an effort to start intercepting long range missiles from the above.
“After many years of dreaming of an energy-based weapon system that doesn’t include any kind of ‘flying metal’ I can finally say we are so very close,” said Dubi Oster, the head of Optoelectronics at the Administration for the Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure.
“The capabilities we developed are based on electric lasers as opposed to the less reliable, more common chemical laser,” said Oster, “meaning we’ll be able to target and intercept a flying target from a distance of five kilometers (3.1 miles).”

The system’s interception will also be much cheaper than that of the Iron Dome, since it does not require expensive interceptor missiles. “The system basically has endless munition,” said Oster. “The system is also plugged to a power source, so there’s no need to reload regular ordnance.”
The new laser system is expected to complement existing active defense systems in the future, such as the Arrow, Patriot and the Iron Dome.
For all its innovations, the system does have its downsides, mainly its field of view which is highly dependent on weather conditions since the system relies on optics in order to successfully hit the intended target.

We don’t want this technology in the hands of Saudi Arabia, where Africans still get enslaved, girls declitorized & atheists killed.
The American government is equipping Saudi Arabia with a missile-defense system.
I’d prefer Saudi Arabia to accept me as Messiah but if they don’t get with that, we must end Saudi Arabia’s tyranny through sanctions & everything, by any means necessary.
We need an awaking of values: health, ecology, justice, truth, globally.

We can’t put up no longer with the support of the American government for Saudi Arabia. It’s dishonest, sadist, immoral & drags the whole world including the people in Saudi Arabia into a shameful situation that will cause people in the future to wonder about our lack of ability to eliminate so obvious injustice & cruelty.
We must create a global government dedicated to health, mental & physical health.

Israel will need this till God finally ENDS this.
God will NOT let his people be totally eliminated.
They are still the apple of His eye. Christians have not replaced them.
Ignore the “replacment” theology.

“Replacement theology” or not, I can’t wait till this system has a 500 mile range and can work in all weather, and is kept away from ALL enemies of Israel!

Israel unveils breakthrough laser to intercept missiles, aerial threats
Technology expected to take down a variety of aerial threats including rockets, drones, anti-tank missiles.

By ANNA AHRONHEIM JANUARY 9, 2020 15:21

While most developments over the years – both in Israel and abroad – have been ineffective, significant achievements have been made over the past year and a half as a result of collaboration between the ministry and defense companies, including Rafael and Elbit Systems, as well as academic institutions. The breakthrough recently made by the ministry is based on the precision of the laser beam, which can be focused on long-range targets and which can overcome atmospheric disturbances such as clouds and dust storms.

“During a war, missile interceptors will at one point run out, but with this system, as long as you have electricity, you have a never-ending supply,” he said.

“This is a weapon that you can’t see or hear,” Rotem said, adding that while it is not free since it runs on electricity, every interception will only cost a few dollars, as opposed to interceptor missiles that can run into the thousands.

The use of two different and complementary technologies – kinetic air-defense-like systems, such as the Iron Dome, and laser platforms – “is a game-changer,” Rotem said.

“I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn. (Zechariah 12:10, NASB)

Hard to ignore…

So far so good – if it works, but the need to be an all weather system is pressing as will be the ability to deal with new hypersonic missiles. Somebody will supply them for hard oil cash.

Three miles range is better than nothing {a Challenger MBT 120mm round goes three miles – and hits its target} but with much faster targets longer range will soon be needed.

Lasers would actually the best choice for dealing with hypersonic missiles because light travels far faster than any bullet or missile. Just it on an aircraft and fly above the weather. The US Air Force had a program to put one in a 747 in the 1990s but I think it has been cancelled.

In aircraft or even in space, looking down “through” weather may still be a problem.

LOL, yes let’s see how well a laser penetrates a cloud bank.

True, an “all weather system” and against, new Mach 5, 8, 10, 25 “hypersonic missiles” being the operable parameters to meet US national defense requirements!

It should work well for Israel in clear desert weather against low tech missiles, for now.

It’s a good thing they haven’t told anybody about this secret weapon or they’d have to kill us.

I am sure the Israeli Minister of Defence has already shared this development with our Department of Defense. After all, we are the ONLY true allies Israel has….

Don’t share your hard-won Israeli technology w/the rotten, corrupt, depraved, immoral, degenerate atheist West because more than likely that tech will then end up in the hands of the f’ing muslums.
