Dearborn Public Schools Spark Protest by Adopting All Halal Meat Policy

The Dearborn Public Schools website states it matter-of-factly: “Dearborn Public Schools ensures all meats served in our schools are certified Halal.”  Now one courageous mother is fighting back, challenging Dearborn public school officials to explain why they have done this and to provide options for students who object to halal food.

The mother wrote to Dearborn schools superintendent Glenn Maleyko, noting, “Schools have never changed lunches to fit any other religious needs.  If one needed a special diet due to religion or health, they did what all other students do, bring a lunch from home.”

Maleyko responded: “The decision was based on operational considerations only, not religion.  By implementing an all Halal meat option we have increased the number of students that we are serving[.] … It would cost a lot more to provide both Halal and non-Halal meat.”

In the long run, the superintendent will find it far, far costlier to have capitulated to Islamic supremacism and set this precedent.

Dearborn’s actions here should be a matter of concern for all free people.  This is a manifestation of the Left’s absolute march, without consideration or question, toward exclusionary, supremacist practices that any genuinely pluralistic society should reject.  Dearborn Public Schools officials are demonstrating a totalitarian assuredness in the delusional comfort of enlightenment, diversity, and inclusion.  They’re in for an unpleasant surprise: they’re accommodating a radically non-diverse, non-inclusive

Dearborn’s policy is discriminatory against non-Muslim students of numerous perspectives, some having to do with different faith traditions.  There may be any number of reasons why people don’t want halal meat.  They may object to halal slaughter for humanitarian reasons or because they are concerned for animal rights.  Evangelical Christians may consider it meat sacrificed to idols, as discussed in the New Testament.  Jews are obliged to keep kosher, not eat halal food.  Still others may object to the fact that many halal certification organizations have links to jihad terror groups.

In light of all this, Dearborn should rescind its halal-only policy so as to make its schools truly inclusive and diverse, accepting of all students, not just Muslim students.

But that is unlikely to happen.  This initiative is already very far advanced.  If you’re in Europe, and in many areas in America as well, the meat you are eating is probably halal, unless you’re keeping kosher.  In a little-known strike against freedom, yet again, we are being forced into consuming meat slaughtered by means of a barbaric, torturous and inhuman method: Islamic slaughter.

Where were the PETA clowns and the ridiculous celebs who pose naked on giant billboards for PETA and “animal rights”?  They would rather see people die of cancer or AIDS than see animals used in drug testing, but torturous and painful Islamic slaughter is OK.

Many people have written to me saying they simply won’t eat halal meat, as they object to the methods used to slaughter the animal.  And I agree.  The sharia term for halal slaughter is dhakat.  Dhakat is to slaughter an animal by cutting the trachea, the esophagus, and the jugular vein, letting the blood drain out while saying, “Bismillah allahu akbar” — in the name of Allah the greater.

Seventy percent of New Zealand lamb imported into the United Kingdom is halal.  It is not labeled as such, so people are eating halal without even knowing it.  But people there are fighting back: when halal food was imposed on public schools in the United Kingdom in 2007, parents were in an uproar.  And in March 2010, Stop Islamization of Europe (SIOE), the sister organization to my group SIOA, called for the cessation of mandatory consumption of halal meat on the continent.

In the United States, a great deal of meat sold in this country is already halal but is not labeled is such.  It’s a scandal, but an established practice: meatpackers generally do not separate halal meat from non-halal meat and not do not label halal meat as such.  We attempted to right that wrong.  But the U.S. Department of Agriculture has for four years now ignored, shelved, or just plain refused to rule on our petition.

As many Americans do not, for a variety of reasons, wish to eat halal meat, back in February 2012, my organization, the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI), filed a citizen petition with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, asking that a regulation be enacted to ensure that all halal food be clearly labeled as halal.  In April 2012, we agreed not to publicize our petition in order to give the agency some space to review the document without any pressure from the public.

On May 11, 2012, we had a face-to-face meeting in the USDA offices with top FSIS officials.  We discussed this petition and the need for halal meat to be clearly labeled.  Present at this meeting was Dan Engeljohn, a longtime USDA official who is now assistant administrator for the Office of Policy and Program Development (OPPD) in the FSIS.  This position made him responsible for FSIS regulations.

Engeljohn and company had years to rule on our petition.  They never did a thing.  They just let it die on the table and stonewalled our repeated requests for an explanation.

As far back as October 2010, I reported on little noted but explosive revelations that much of the meat in Europe and the United States was being processed as halal without the knowledge of the non-Muslim consumers who bought it.

Then, in November 2011, I penned an article that caused a firestorm across the political spectrum, revealing that Butterball turkeys were all halal but were not labeled as such. Heads exploded on the Left — not over Butterball’s deception, but over my having the audacity to reveal it.  The clueless and compromised on the right were enraged as well: John Podhoretz tweeted, “I’d tell Pamela Geller to put a sock in it, but the sock might be halal.”

I was, of course, excoriated as a racist Islamophobic anti-Muslim bigot.  In reality, however, we have no objection to halal meat being sold, as long as it is clearly labeled as such, and as long as non-halal meat is available.

And now, all these years later, halal meat is being imposed on non-Muslims.  The Dearborn mother responded to Maleyko’s bland rejection of her concerns but at press time had not heard back from the superintendent.  Will he respond?  Will he take her concerns seriously?  And even more importantly, is this diversity?  Is this inclusion?  This is Islamic supremacism and totalitarianism.

I’ll tell you. Compulsory headbags for all non muslim females there, followed by that small token of “tolerance” and “inclusiveness” compulsory FGM for all women and circumcision for all males.

Then of course there’s the issue of smoking and use of phones for reasons around the “light relief” provided by on line music.

Banned. It’s unislamic and therefore “offensive”.

The point of all this is this, the horizons of ambition to reset all that we know and are comfortable with by the far left Soros snowflakes and wannabee jihadists is set so far away that there is very little in our western societies which will be left recognisable in time if we stay mute with our feet up.

The craving for the unforgiving hatred is so strong it amounts to the dismantling brick by brick, institution by institution and cultural norm by cultural norm of everything we hold dear until the “nirvana” of replacement subjugation is complete and irreversible.

Think national, act local.

It’s that way or nothing and the sooner all start, the more we have a chance .

Dearbornistan? Disgusting, but not surprising. The exact same kind of implementation of Shariah is going on in the United Kaliphate: the imposition of halal meat across the board for everyone. I’ll have to follow Ms. Geller’s suggestion and get to buying kosher meat from here on out.

I REPEAT. It is not only muslims and halal that is the issue. Jews and kosher is just as bad.
The jews do not slaughter with stunning at all.

The jews do not eat any rear end of any animal they kill, it is sold straight on to the national meat market, how convenient.
In the UK it is illegal to distribute kosher and halal meat to non jews and non muslims but does the law make a difference, does it like hell. Both jews and muslims ignore the law and our government ignores the implimentation of the law.
EXCEPT one great man, Geoffrey Driver CBE, head of Lancashire County Council who has banned all halal meat from its 27 schools. The jewish fraternity on this occasion was out in suppoort of muslims. No legal challenge from either party because the law is already in place.
Lets look at the situation. muslims and jews have been given a exemption to slaughter animals in their religious way on the condition that the meat from these animals is for their use only. Neither group satisfied with the freedom and benefits extended to them in the UK, they have to abuse the host nation with scant regard to the rights of the indigenous people. Then they wonder why there is backlash against them. Its not difficult to see from where I am standing.

Kosher is not forced down your month or Jews do not demand it has to be in served everywhere.
Plus every time you eat Halal, money made out os hala goes to promote Islam and building of Mosque.

Why would anyone eat Halal , when all the money collected for halal certification etc is given to Islamic promotion and building of the Mosques in west. A cleave way to get tax from dumb people of west???(Kaffir to be taxed).
Not single cent goes to promote western way of life or democracy. Dont cry when you have mosque next to your house or Islamic building next to you and Islamist / muslims demanding Islamic life etc.Have your daughter as sex slave etc.

Halal meat should be forbidden in American schools. Not only are the animals tortured to death but a fee, a tax , a Jizya tax is paid to the islamists and those funds are used to bring down and destroy America and Western culture.
I see halal lamb being sold in Walmart and I am boycotting it.

What I have a problem with IS TAXPAYER-FUNDED SCHOOLS AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS USING OUR TAX MONEY TO GIVE PREFERENCES TO A PARTICULAR SET OF PEOPLE. It should be AMERICAN FOOD or nothing in our schools. All this misplaced compassion of the Muslim or any other racial/ethnic group is just plain wrong. MINORITIES SHOULD NEVER GET PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT FOR ANYTHING ANYWHERE. TO DO SO IS DISCRIMINATING AGAINST THE MAJORITY. These things should be VOTED ON BY TAXPAYERS, not enforced by School officials. PARENTS SHOULD BE OUTRAGED! It is tantamount to 1 Muslim screaming at 1 homeowner out of 50 when their America flag is waving outside attached to their home. WHEN WE START ALLOWING THE MINORITY TO DICTATE TO THE MAJORITY, THEN YOU CAN KISS OUR CONSTITUTION GOODBYE. If that Muslim doesn’t like my American flag flying, THEY CAN MOVE. I will not remove my flag or move. THEY CAN.

I am glad my kids are no longer in public school. There were some instances of unfairness when they were attending, and I would go right up to the problem in the school and OWN IT and annihilate those who were wrong (with kindness and legalities, of course). I NEVER ALLOWED THE PRINCIPAL OR TEACHERS TO DICTATE TO ME WHAT MY CHILD WOULD DO, IF I KNEW IT WAS WRONG. And just because IT HAPPENS TO SOMEONE ELSE, SOMEWHERE ELSE, does not mean IT WON’T SPREAD TO YOU AND YOUR AREA!

“Transgender” bathrooms are just as exclusionary and supremacist, and schools are force-feeding this on students as well. To tell women and girls that they must change their behaviors and sacrifice their privacy and modesty to accommodate an estimated 0.3% of the population that thinks they’re opposite of what they were born with/as, is just as much a statement of supremacism and totalitarianism as Dearbornistan’s imposing “halal” meals on all non-Muslim students. (Has Dearborn also changed their bathrooms to suit a small minority? Five’ll get ya’ ten they have.) Besides the issue of placing women and girls in greater danger for sexual assault because of predators who “dress up” to gain access to their victims – and see such supremacist-oriented bathrooms as a means of avoiding the messy business of having to register as sex offenders . . . and administrators simply could not care less about such damage.

And we see how much as totalitarian Greenwich Village/San Francisco/Fire Island “values” are as Islamic Sharia law. Under such “values” we had one California school who put a first-grade girl through a Soviet-style “star chamber” for using the “wrong” name for a “trans” person, thus shattering the girl’s innocence forever; one first-grade girl who was assaulted in a “trans” bathroom by a boy of similar age who was led to believe he was “gender fluid,” when she spoke up and came forward, was viciously retaliated against by her school by having Child Protective Services sicced on her parents; and on and on. (This is what is really meant by “protecting the LGBTQ community”: shielding and insulating them from any accountability for such behaviors, and retaliating against those who speak out against them. And don’t get me started on those new ads from law firms seeking “justice” for “sex abuse victims” – nothing more than an excuse to destroy two institutions whose teachings on sexuality were the polar opposite of the Left’s “anything goes” and “if it feels good, do it in the road” dictum, while saying nothing about the real root cause – no different, really, from how the “War on Terror” had been fought post-9/11, not even addressing the Islam factor.) And this too will only get worse unless people likewise stand up as that Dearborn mother had in the case of this halal business.

SOMEONE (taxpayers) needs to HOMESCHOOL their kids and then form a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT against PUBLIC SCHOOLS for using their taxpayer money to support ISLAM, which is contrary to the 1st Amendment. PUBLIC SCHOOLS should never give any preferential treatment to any one particular group. If the school has nothing halal, then BRING YOUR LUNCH, stupid.

There should be a TAX EXEMPTION for homeowners who HomeSchool with their tax money going toward something other than Public schools.

Pamela, you express a reasonable view that you are OK with halal (and presumably kosher) slaughter as long as it is not forced on people and taxpayers do not have to pay for it. But you also have unleashed a torrent of hate on this website. such as from the clueless Clem Jackson, for example, who says “they do not stun” as if that were a sine qua non of humane slaughter rather than a plausible-sounding false basis on which to make life for observant Jews difficult. More substantively, I do not know the details or economics of halal, but given the restrictions in kosher rules, it is uneconomic (except in Israel) to process the hindquarters (e.g., sirloin and porterhouse) for the kosher market, so all that as well as the entirety of any animal with certain imperfections in the lungs, such as lesions, that are perfectly safe by health standards but not kosher, must be sold to the non-kosher trade. All this accounts for a great deal of the meat processed in kosher slaughterhouses, and it is probably impossible to try to keep track of the meat and label it from that point, so people like Jackson are, whether they realize it or not, advocating the kind of anti-Semitic legislation that has thrived in Europe.

We let the nose of the camel under the tent a long time ago. It’s getting a little crowded with the whole camel IN the tent. Having the meat made halal does nothing for the cleanliness or sanitary condition of the meat. At least kosher purifies the meat and makes it cleaner.
