Happy Birthday to the first country in human history founded on individual rights and freedom

21

Remember what it was all for, now, most especially now when the left has declared war on the very idea of America.

I am so proud, so honored to be an American. This is my most favorite holiday of the year and feels more like a birthday, my birthday – our birthday – the birth of freedom. I want to shout it from the mountaintops like Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music.

Trump gets that too.

America’s greatest philosopher and political theorist Ayn Rand’s on America:

I can say—not as a patriotic bromide, but with full knowledge of the necessary metaphysical, epistemological, ethical, political and esthetic roots—that the United States of America is the greatest, the noblest and, in its original founding principles, the only moral country in the history of the world.

Since the golden age of Greece, there has been only one era of reason in twenty-three centuries of Western philosophy. During the final decades of that era, the United States of America was created as an independent nation. This is the key to the country—to its nature, its development, and its uniqueness: the United States is the nation of the Enlightenment.

America’s founding ideal was the principle of individual rights. Nothing more—and nothing less. The rest—everything that America achieved, everything she became, everything “noble and just,” and heroic, and great, and unprecedented in human history—was the logical consequence of fidelity to that one principle. The first consequence was the principle of political freedom, i.e., an individual’s freedom from physical compulsion, coercion or interference by the government. The next was the economic implementation of political freedom: the system of capitalism.

The most profoundly revolutionary achievement of the United States of America was the subordination of society to moral law. The principle of man’s individual rights represented the extension of morality into the social system—as a limitation on the power of the state, as man’s protection against the brute force of the collective, as the subordination of might to right. The United States was the first moral society in history. All previous systems had regarded man as a sacrificial means to the ends of others, and society as an end in itself. The United States regarded man as an end in himself, and society as a means to the peaceful, orderly, voluntary co-existence of individuals. All previous systems had held that man’s life belongs to society, that society can dispose of him in any way it pleases, and that any freedom he enjoys is his only by favor, by the permission of society, which may be revoked at any time. The United States held that man’s life is his by right (which means: by moral principle and by his nature), that a right is the property of an individual, that society as such has no rights, and that the only moral purpose of a government is the protection of individual rights.

It took centuries of intellectual, philosophical development to achieve political freedom. It was a long struggle, stretching from Aristotle to John Locke to the Founding Fathers. The system they established was not based on unlimited majority rule, but on its opposite: on individual rights, which were not to be alienated by majority vote or minority plotting. The individual was not left at the mercy of his neighbors or his leaders: the Constitutional system of checks and balances was scientifically devised to protect him from both. This was the great American achievement—and if concern for the actual welfare of other nations were our present leaders’ motive, this is what we should have been teaching the world.

I couldn’t agree with you more, Pamela. We are all blessed beyond our ability to understand.

We constantly forget that America started out as, and is still, a society without classes—you can start out poor, yet succeed in making the most of your life through your own talents and efforts. That’s why turning to Europe for a political model is so deadly stupid, cynical, and evil. Euprope’s society, and predilection for collectivism, is the product of centuries of humanity suffering under a harsh class system. Marxism shoudn’t even apply to America—which never had a class system. Americans were already freed from class tyranny.

This explains the machinations of the political Left—the only way it can bring America down is to preach ‘equality’ while aggressively dividing us into smaller and smaller classes (Male – Female; Abled – Disabled; Black – White; Rich – Poor; Gay – Straight, etc.)

Enough seriousness. Have a wonderful July 4th all!

The USA is by far
– the richest country in the 300,000 year history of the human species
– from paleolithic times until 1800
– human life expectancy was about 37 years
– average human daily income was $1/day
– [Jesus owned one garment, walked everywhere he went, and died at age 37]
– and although things improved somewhat after the renaissance
– the huge explosion occurred
– when the US Constitution
– and Adam Smith’s writings about free-enterprise
– and John Locke’s empiricist’s invention of modern science
– caused the industrial and scientific revolutions to explode
– especially in the USA
– where life expectancy was 47 in 1900
– and by 1945, the USA became the most powerful nation on earth
– so that average annual income ~ $55,000/yr, life expectancy 80+
– and if this does not improve significantly every year
– everyone gets upset

Would you rather be living in Dearbornistan, Michigan? I’m sure there are plenty of your “good”, “decent”, “honorable”, “moderate” muslums there. I have a great idea, why don’t you move there and find out?

Ahem, I dunno about about that. In New Yawk, it’s how much money you got. In Philadelphia, it’s who your parents were. And in Baaaston, it’s who your grandparents were. :>)

Thank you, Pam, for one of the best statements on the meaning of Independence Day I have read. Best wishes to you and everyone who fights the existential threat to freedom and independence presented by Islam’s jihad against the West!

Notice how many in the so-called “LGBTQ Pride Month” last month, had virtually NO pride for America under any circumstances. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that such “celebrations” of a lifestyle that is not exactly wholesome or healthy under any circumstances, falls within the same time period as the Muslim “holiday” of Ramadan. It shows just how far we’ve fallen as a nation that certain groups of people have more “pride” in certain questionable behaviors than in this country.

Wow. An immigrant that loved America. Ayn Rand. (I had to look her up because I didn’t know if ‘she’ was a ‘she’ or ‘him’. LOL.) There’s a bio inside the link on her.

Creating a false sense of freedom when many suffer from the lack of freedom can have a negative effect. A lot of freedoms have rusted away since becoming independent, it is time for the † Cowboys † to resuscitate these founding freedoms; freedom still requires a lot of work. God bless and protect † USA †.
