Fatah: Participants in Bahrain are backstabbing Palestine

By Nan Jacques Zilberdik

Abbas’ Fatah Movement is publishing numerous photos from Palestinian demonstrations against the current Bahrain Conference that discusses economic aspects of US President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace plan. The demonstrations, the slogans and posters, and Fatah’s visual coverage of the protests emphasize the Palestinian hate towards Trump, the US, and Israel, as well as the Palestinian rejection of Trump’s Middle East peace plan – the so-called Deal of the Century – and the Bahrain Conference.

At a demonstration organized by the PLO in Bethlehem, at which Bethlehem District Governor Kamel Hamid was present and gave a speech, Palestinians hung an effigy of Trump on the gallows and later burned it as seen in the photo above and here:

The effigy’s face is a picture of Trump’s face, and it is wearing a wig meant to resemble Trump’s hair. A Palestinian flag is waving next to the effigy and a man is holding a sign:

Text on effigy’s shirt: “The Deal of the Century” and “The Bahrain Conference
Text on sign:Despicable Trump, your talk is like your urine.
Shut up.”

At another event, a Palestinian dressed as former PA leader Arafat burned a poster portraying Trump with red satanic horns and a swastika on his forehead and with US and British flags with swastikas and a blue Star of David over them (above). In another photo, Trump is crossed out with a red “X.” Trump’s peace plan is referred to as “the Deal of the Devil”:

Text on posters in English: “Deal of devil”

Fatah further stated in a cartoon that participants in the Bahrain Conference are back-stabbing “Palestine”:

The cartoon shows a man holding a knife and preparing to stab a woman – “Palestine” – in the back. The woman is wearing a head covering that appears to be in the shape of the PA map of “Palestine” that presents all of Israel as “Palestine” together with the PA areas. A hand is holding out a sack of dollars to the man with the knife.

This statement follows a similar comment by the secretary-general of Fatah’s youth movement Shabiba, who said that Palestinian participation in the workshop is “treason” and will be responded to “with full force.” Fatah and the National and Islamic Forces have called for violence and “escalation” and “demonstrations of rage” during the Bahrain Conference, as exposed by Palestinian Media Watch. To follow up, Fatah is posting numerous photos from the demonstrations. The following are some of them:

Burning coffins and rock-throwing

At one Fatah demonstration Palestinian protesters set fire to a coffin:

Text on coffin: “The deal of the century and the workshop in Manama [Bahrain] died even before they were born

In other places, Palestinians burned tires and brought rocks:
A Palestinian protester is holding a Palestinian flag and a picture of Arafat and Abbas, while a tire is burning behind him. A UN car is seen in the background.

Joining the call to Palestinians to “escalate” confrontations with Israel was Fatah official Mahmoud Walwil:

“Fatah’s Qalqilya Branch Secretary [Mahmoud Walwil] called on the masses of the district for the widest participation in the activities to denounce the deal of the century and the Bahrain conference, in order to send a message to all of the conspirators that such conferences will not pass, and that by the resolve of our leadership and the will of the masses it will be thwarted. He called for an escalation of the popular resistance at the points of friction.”

Bahrain Conference is “treason,” Arab participants are Zionists

The triangular sign below was displayed at a Fatah demonstration in Hebron. It features the Israeli flag and the flag of Bahrain, and a picture of King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa inside a blue Star of David as if to say he is a “Zionist”:

Text on sign: “Down with your conference

Down with the Bahrain conference.”

Additional text on what is possibly the same sign says:

Palestine is not for sale, and you can all go to hell.”

At the PLO demonstration in Bethlehem, protesters paraded a donkey with posters of Trump and King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on it:

At demonstrations in Ramallah and Tubas, Palestinians held signs calling the Bahrain Conference “treason”:

Text on sign of Fatah Central Committee member Dalal Salameh: “United to thwart the deal of the century.”

Text on sign of curly-haired girl: “The most important item on the Bahrain conference’s agenda is the coffee break.”

Abbas is “brave,” the Palestinians “a people of giants”

In another post, Fatah praised its chairman Abbas for being “brave” and standing up to the US, and lauded the Palestinian people as one of “giants”:

Posted text and on image: “History will commemorate a brave man who said ‘No’ to the greatest state in the world and rejected all of the temptations. He remained alone, resolved, and behind him a people of giants.”

Qalqilya District Governor Rafe’ Rawajbeh also applauded Abbas’ unyielding opposition to the Bahrain Conference and any US-led initiative:

“[Qalqilya District] Governor [Rafe’ Rawajbeh] praised the resolve of the Palestinian leadership that is being manifested by [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas, called on the civilians to participate in the activities that reject the dubious Bahrain workshop, and emphasized that the Palestinian people is united around the leadership of our people, led by President Mahmoud Abbas who is waging a fierce battle against the plots being woven against our national project under American guidance.”

The following are additional texts of Fatah’s posts above:

Posted text: “From the confrontations that broke out at the northern entrance to Bethlehem following a mass participant procession of rage that went out from Nisan Square against the deal of the century (refers to US President Donald Trump’s as yet unpublished Middle East peace plan -Ed.) and the Bahrain conference (refers to US-led conference in Bahrain in June 2019 focusing on economic aspects of Trump’s Middle East peace plan -Ed.). The PLO factions in the Bethlehem district organized [the procession].”

Bethlehem District Governor Kamel Hamid gave a speech at the event:
