Why America Lacks Interest in the Ongoing Jihad Threat

If, one year after 9/11, an individual originally from India drove a van full of propane tanks into the front gate of a California Air Force base, burning himself to death in the process, it would have been deemed an act of terrorism. In fact, it would have received extensive media coverage and quickly reverted society back to being concerned about another attack. Additional consequences would have included an enraged society, a collective call by citizens to find a motive, and an easing of political correctness.
If, one year after 9/11, a Muslim male was stopped in Los Angeles with two homemade bombs in his car while heading to a crowded mall with the intent of carrying out an attack, the plot would have gained national attention. And if deeper searches revealed that the suspect had a previous conviction for making terroristic threats, inquiries would have begun for the missing links. If, finally, it was determined that this same man had another, more recent conviction overseas for attacking someone with acid and disfiguring him for life, Congress may have stood up and taken notice.
Finally, if one year after 9/11, a Bangladeshi man meticulously plotted to carry out a jihadist attack in Times Square, more than just New Yorkers would be alarmed. If he lauded Osama bin Laden and characterized the attacks of 9/11 as a success, American citizens across the country would take notice.
Although the dates have been changed, these stories are true. In fact, each happened within the last two years inside America’s borders with little to no national media coverage. Motives have still not been “determined,” which begs the question whether authorities are keeping information close to the chest or whether there’s a lack relevant training to help them understand the ideology and motivations of this enemy.
What happened? Why is there such a lack of interest in, or denial of, jihadist attacks and plots in America today? Does it have to do with the drowning out of information by the daily news cycle? Or maybe these are just lower priority stories given the tectonic events happening around the country each day. Law enforcement has been tremendously effective in thwarting attacks over the years. Perhaps those successes generated a sense of perpetual protection.
In reality, there are three other options that might explain this lackluster interest in such attacks and plots.
First, people have little awareness about, or have become numb to jihadist terrorism. Despite thousands of attacks globally each year, Americans receive little exposure to the daily attacks in India, Somalia, and other countries. Events taking place in far-off and austere locations around the world rarely make their way into American media. Beyond this fact, jihadism has all but become a way of life given its frequency, especially in countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan. Outside the shock and awe of ISIS beheadings and Boko Haram school kidnappings, Americans have become numb to the weekly IED and car bomb attacks.
Second, American citizens are afraid to acknowledge and publicly connect anything evil that may have a potential link to religion as its root. Scratching the surface in the above attacks or plots would most likely connect these incidents to Islamism. In fact, one just needs to read the criminal complaint from the last week’s Times Square plot to learn that the suspect listened to sermons by American-born al-Qaida cleric Anwar al-Awlaki in his run up to planning the attack. He said he would be “happy” “seeing the flag of Islam on the Twin Towers or the Empire State Building.”
While those are his exact words, calling attention to them is likely to trigger immediate accusations of Islamophobia. This is an all-too-common reaction from certain Muslim advocacy groups subsequent to jihadist attacks or uncovered plots within America. Others will claim the suspect is mentally ill, lacks knowledge of Islam, and the other go-to excuse – he was manipulated and radicalized by the Internet.
Finally, a third possible reason for the lack of interest in or denial that jihad is present in the United States may have to do with our lack of understanding about the ideology that fuels many plots. Cyber-attacks are a simple concept – someone hacked a company’s computer and stole data. A slick businessman swindled a slew of elderly citizens out of their retirement savings: evil, but straightforward. Even school shootings are pieced together after the event, the suspect was bullied and committed to bringing vengeance to those that wronged him.
But the jihadist ideology continues to be a mystery. A young man, often college educated and raised in a stable family, decides to martyr himself in the cause of a religion. In fact, he’s so dedicated to his effort he is ready to kill scores of other people he has never met as part of his martyrdom. Why? He begins spending every waking moment of his day watching videos of jihadists killing coalition troops in Iraq, reading manuscripts like the “Management of Savagery,” written by an al-Qaida scholar, and communicating with like-minded believers in Yemen through encrypted communications. Maybe he’s an engineer by trade and has a well-paying job and a hopeful future. We can’t make heads or tails of it.
In the end, we’re left with two things. Jihad continues to be a threat in the United States, and there is a lack of interest and focus on the consequences of its presence. Jihadists revel in the lack of scrutiny. They will continue to plan, conduct surveillance, and build their network unless a citizen calls the authorities with a hunch about something seeming suspicious. Yet, will that call happen? It did not in San Bernardino, and 14 people were gunned down.
America is being lured into a false sense of security by the media, given the lack of coverage and what some could characterize as a minimization campaign. Jihad is real, and radicalization is happening every day in America, we just need to read our history.

Albany, New York: Imam convicted of aiding jihad terror group to be deported

Yassin Aref, an imam at an Albany mosque convicted of terrorism in a post-9/11 FBI sting, was deported Sunday night, his son and lawyer said.
Aref, who is Kurdish, will return to Iraq after 13 1/2 years in federal prison and eight months in immigration detention in Pennsylvania.
His son Salah Muhiddin said he received a call from his father around 3:45 p.m. Sunday telling him that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told Aref to pack up his belongings and prepare to leave. A little later, the messaging system that he uses stopped working and ICE’s detainee locator stopped listing him as a detainee.
Muhiddin was expecting a call anytime Sunday evening to confirm Aref was at the airport.
“If everything goes smoothly, he should be back in his home country as a free man tomorrow,” Muhiddin said.

Americans aren’t informed. To be honest, though, foiled attacks don’t stir humans up enough to get riled because of other things going on in their lives.
But there is also something which really upset ME, and frankly, most of the world, was after 9/11, George W. Bush stood up before the country, and the world, and stated that it was NOT Islam that caused 9/11, it was misguided terrorists. WTF?????

Great article, we’ve taken the eye off the ball. Muslims haven’t stopped trying to kill us, we’ve just stopped paying attention. I think it might take a few more 9/11s for people to get the message and finally treat Islam as today’s Nazism.

Rick J, the ball has been covered up since 9-11. There used to be a website dedicated to uncovering stories of jihad on airplanes, dry runs they called them. Not sure where that site went. Many others that tracked incidents and did inqiries simply shut down. The pressure and fear was too much.

Perhaps the lack of interest and even the denial is due to so many of our politicians receiving favors from the Saudi Lobbyists. It is time to face the fact that our political leaders, on both sides of the aisle, are owned by Saudi money and are willing to sell our safety and freedom to satisfy their greed.

Question: Has there been any effort to track and catalogue the Saudi, Emirato monies funneled to politicians, CAIR like front groups, universities, NGO’s, religious organizations, nonprofits, etc. If this has been done, I would like to see a reference to it.If it has not been done, then there is a great need for it.

John, the first I heard about the Saudi Lobby was while watching Agenda and Agenda 2 and I was greatly surprised to learn about the amount of money Saudi was handing out to our politicians and presidents in both parties. Plus the money they are giving to various universities; it is small wonder our universities are on friendly terms with islam. This surely accounts for the Democrat Party’s coddling of the muslim faction within their ranks.
With some diligent research it is possible to track down who is part of the Saudi Lobby, what organizations they are speaking for and where their money is going. I would like to see this conversation part of the upcoming primary and general election season. I would like to know Trump’s position on the Saudi Lobby. No doubt in my mind that much of the media is part of the Saudi payoff.

You are right about one thing. Lack of coverage. Mouslems get a pass by the press. However, most people I talk to are aware of every attack but they still don’t really care.
I have come to the belief even if they were affected by it they still wouldn’t care. They all pass it on to somebody else to take care of this “terror” problem. Which means just letting the government worry about it and to do something.
I think they’ll care when a whole CITY is BLOWN to pieces. No, make that a WHOLE BUNCH of cities are WIPED out. They they’ll start to care and maybe even take the law into their own hands.

Most America are painfully unaware of the Jihad threat because they have foolishly insisted on being disinterested in learning the truth about Islam.
What should be mentioned and understood is that the truth about Islam and the Muslims is so horrible that the average non-Muslim can’t believe it and so they refuse too.
As a result, Islam continues to flourish and spread practically unopposed.
If Americans had had the same attitude towards the AXIS powers at the beginning of WW II as they have today towards Islam, we’d all currently be speaking German, Japanese, and Italian.

From experience, there was a concerted effort as well by islamic groups after 9-11 to pressure newspaper editors especially whenever ANY reporter or editorial writer wrote about islam, sharia or anything related. From experience, even small town reporters were contacted and threatened by such groups, not overtly, but in a passive-aggressive way. I know of many reporters for smaller newspapers (which is sometimes where the stories start) whose editors received 12 page SCREEDS from obvious non-resident muslims/activists every time anything remotely negative about sharia was reported. Police stations also got very quiet about episodes, and most often stories involving islam simply went away. They’ve been very successful at scaring people around the country, which makes what you do, Pamela G., all the more amazing and heroic. Add to that, reporters are LAZY SOBs who would rather parrot the latest on the fake news than ferret out anything that might get them blacklisted by lib editors.

The one most significant answer to the “What happened?” question was not mentioned in this piece: Eight years of a pro-jihadist U.S. President. And of course we can’t leave out the the Radical Left that made that possible, as well as a delusional Bush administration. But nothing, since Abraham Lincoln, has been more subversive than the partnership between The Muslim Brotherhood, the DNC and Leftists, and of course, the Obama Administration. The on-going coup against President Trump and Conservative Americans is as much about an Islamic jihadist victory as it is about the threat WE pose to the radical Left.

Blame the USA’s public school system that is too busy indoctrinating students into socialism rather than factual USA history and factual current events including factual information on Islam. The extreme, far-left media plays an integral role in keeping American citizens uninformed of the truth about Islam, jihad. Attentive, involved parents on both sides of the isle are busy raising their families which leaves little time for knowing and understanding what is going on outside of their family-oriented activities. Corrupt politicians on both sides of the isle don’t care about the USA citizens, just themselves. That leaves one option in my opinion. Brave, patriotic American citizens who have a thorough, fact-based, researched understanding of what islam is, what Islam’s goal is for the USA and the world must step forward and start educating USA’s citizens on Islam’s vile, dangerous totalitarian political system and legal code, sharia law. I read the comments on this thread and there is much righteous anger on here, but what we need to do is take that anger and channel it into positive action. Get more informed. Looks for ways to educate the people you know, in a reasonable and fact-based way. Don’t come unglued, but ask good questions and really listen to the answers. Things that would fly right by people will start to connect and they will begin to realize the threat for what it is.

“: the drowning out of information by the daily news cycle? ” Just don’t understand why so MANY Americans are so disjointed from what is happening all over the World as well as what’s happening here at home?? I have heard so many tines: I don’t like politics, I don’t have time for what’s goin’ on, I’m busy rasin’ my family, Let’s don’t talk politics or the Muslims etc!! No one is stopping voter fraud. And as it is a speciality of the Democrats, Trump just may go down in 2020 because of it. If that does happen then America will NOT be such a good place to live with all that the Democrats have stated that they intend to put in place. Will the investigations ever end and action be taken? I’m beginnin’ to doubt it as it seems as if the Demos throw up so many barriers that the Trump administration seems to spend it’s time fighting to get things done. Yes, I am aware of what our great President HAS accomplished against all odds. God Bless and protect him!!
