2 Jewish billionaires pledge $122 million toward restoring
(JTA) — Two Jewish billionaires have pledged a total of $122 million toward the restoration of Paris’ Notre Dame cathedral, which was ravaged in a fire.
Lily Safra, a Brazilian philanthropist, said she would give $22 million to fund the restoration efforts of the iconic church, which was badly damaged Monday, Correio 24 Horas reported. And Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, the French owner of L’Oreal, pledged another $100 million, according to CBS.
Story continues below advertisementThe donations account for about 17 percent of the $700 million collected so far for the restoration.
Bettencourt Meyers announced the donation on Twitter following French President Emmanuel Macron’s call on philanthropists to help collect funds for the operation.
Her father, Andre Bettencourt, wrote numerous articles for two pro-Nazi publications during World War II, one of which was financed by the Nazi government in Germany. Bettencourt Meyers married Jean-Pierre Meyers, a French Jewish businessman descended from a family of rabbis, and converted to Judaism.
Bettencourt Meyers has led and donated to interfaith initiatives connecting Christians and Jews.
Meanwhile, the American Jewish Committee announced Wednesday that it will donate funds to help repair Notre Dame.
“Whether Catholic or not, Notre Dame Cathedral is an integral part of our shared legacy and soul. It represents centuries of French and European faith, culture, history and imagination,” AJC CEO David Harris said in a statement.
“We share the pain of the French people and Catholics worldwide in watching this landmark house of worship burn,” he added. AJC maintains an office in Paris.

I think he was referring to a recent news story which consisted of – New York City, N.Y., Apr 18, 2019 / 04:08 pm about a man who attempted to enter New York’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral
carrying gasoline, lighter fluid, and a lighter and now faces face criminal
charges and that was his reply of why he was in the church.

Considering how Muslims have been using kites, slings, and drones to drop simple burning rags to set Israeli fields ablaze…
And that Muslims have been desecrating churches for years now…
And that reporting such has been abysmally absent…
And that France would most likely cover up Muslim involvement to prevent some phony Islamophobic retaliation…
The only reason I’m not 100% certain a Muslim arsonist is responsible is because nothing involving humans is a 100% certainty.

Hebrew name (Joakim). While names like Richard (Rick) ar German.

Very interesting! I had never heard of these biblical characters before, but, of course, Jesus had grandparents and, of course,, they had to be Jewish! But what’s interesting (and I just read this in The Algemeiner!), statues of those two forebears of Jesus are among the most noticeable on the front of the Cathedral and, in fact, have a prominent place in that medieval structure!

fools. they should just give it to church food banks or other charities that have 0% overhead in helping the less fortunate. the french threw God into the garbage heap in 1789, continue to proudly thumb their noses at their Creator, and he returned the favor this week. that shell of a former church known as notre-dame has as much to do with christianity in the present age as disney land.

France has one of the largest Muslim populations and so far no Muslim billionaires have donated.

I am very touched that Jewish millionaires are contributing in such an important way to the reconstruction of the Cathedral of Notre Dame. I am also touched that Jews, and Israel, are doing more for persecuted Christians in the Middle East and elsewhere, than are many supposedly Christian nations. This is being done out of principle—“never again!”, not out of gaining political points. I am encouraged when I read that George Washington personally contributed to the construction of Jewish synagogues in Rhode Island and Philadelphia. Hag sameach Pesach a little early!
