Amazon blasts Ocasio-Cortez, says ‘we don’t want to work in this environment in the long term’

92

The Amazon plant would have brought much-needed jobs to New York City. It would have employed thousands of people who now are out of luck because of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s socialism and virtue-signaling. She and other socialists don’t want people to work, they want to, as President Trump has said, turn this country into Venezuela, where people are searching through garbage cans for something to eat.

“Amazon blasts Ocasio-Cortez, says ‘we don’t want to work in this environment in the long term,'” by Chris Ciaccia, Fox News, February 15, 2019:

Story continues below advertisement

The fallout from Amazon’s decision to walk away from its planned headquarters in New York is ratcheting up after a company spokesman publicly blasted Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other lawmakers, saying they had made it a hostile environment to do business.

“If you talk to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, it’s ‘Never Amazon,'” Jodi Seth, the head of policy communications for Amazon, told NBC News in an interview on Thursday. “If you talk to [New York City Councilman Jimmy] Van Bramer, it’s unions.”

Seth added that “it wasn’t any one incident” that drove the Seattle-based tech giant to its decision, adding that the virulent political discourse that occurred over the past three months was what led to the decision. “It was that the environment over the course of the past three months had not got any better. There were some local and state elected officials who refused to meet with Amazon and criticized us day in and day out about the plan,” she said in the interview.

Seth, who has been at Amazon since October 2017 according to her LinkedIn profile, said the company did not know whether the “deal would be approved until a year from now,” but said it was “pretty confident” in the approval, mentioning that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo “was working hard to make it happen, but looking at the opposition and the timeline we decided we don’t want to work in this environment in the long term.”

In a fiery statement on Thursday, Cuomo blamed the shocking decision on socialist democratic darling Ocasio-Cortez and others like her.

“[A] small group [of] politicians put their own narrow political interests above their community – which poll after poll showed overwhelmingly supported bringing Amazon to Long Island City – the state’s economic future and the best interests of the people of this state,” Cuomo said publicly. “The New York State Senate has done tremendous damage. They should be held accountable for this lost economic opportunity.”

Upon hearing the news, Ocasio-Cortez, who has an undergraduate degree in international relations and economics, cheered Amazon’s decision.

Ocasio-Cortez’s reaction led to significant blowback on social media from prominent businessmen and economists across the political spectrum. The lost jobs would have paid on average $150,000 per year.

Amazon, which currently employs 8,000 people in the state, according to NBC, said it would disperse the 25,000 jobs throughout its 17 corporate offices and tech hubs in the U.S. and Canada, including some in New York. However, Seth added that Amazon does not intend to re-open talks with New York lawmakers and does not intend to find another headquarters for the jobs.

“That’s pretty firm,” Seth told the news outlet.

Amazon said it would proceed as planned with the second part of its HQ2, which will be built in Northern Virginia, as well as its operations center that it said it would open in Nashville.

In addition to the 25,000 jobs, Amazon would’ve brought $2.5 billion in investment and eventually 8 million square feet of office space to Long Island City as part of the deal announced last November….

yeah, even better was the m000slim’s profound expertise regarding the oil industry when gasoline was $5 per gallon and he told us that “we can’t drill our way out this”. i now pay $1.80 per gallon and america now exports crude and gasoline because when the pos got out of our way, we drilled our way out of it. any of you been to the permian basin lately, a dormant oil field risen from the grave by american drilling technology on private land, NOT by the federal government on lands seized by DC

We are not out of the woods yet. The Democrat–Socialist/Communist Party has radicalized to the extent that if another Democrat is elected to be President–they have vowed to reverse whatever positive changes have been brought about by Trump’s more conservative changes. We’ll be in danger of falling over the cliff into socialism.

Actually, felix1999. We are number one in overall petroleum production, whether it is bbls of crude or nasty gas in mcf. Although, Russia has larger nasty gas reserves … we take a lot more of it out of the ground than they. But, as far as exports go … Number one is still soddy barbaria, followed by Russia, in place number two. What’s important …. If the US keeps going at this rate, within a decade we won’t have to import a drop. Of course, when Occasional-Cortex’s New Green Deal takes over … we won’t be needing any petrol …. anyway. So, nevermind.

It is to laugh. Recently, it was easy to find gasoline in Northeast Nohio in the $1.60 range. Wholesale gas (I trade the crap, so I follow it) has rallied slightly over 31 cents. Yet, I drove by the same station, that I filled up around the first of the year …. at 1.619 … and it’s 1.279 today. Wholesale rallies thirty cents … retail rises forty-five cents. On the way up, increases at the pump are a same-day pop as wholesale. On the way down … retail lags wholesale by about two weeks.

Haven’t seen gas under $3/gal in ten years? That’s because you keep electing Democrats to state government and they put high state taxes on top of real cost of fuel.

It’s not California’s gas tax, as much as it is the blends of gasoline that the state’s epa requires …. Hayull, they(CA’s epa) make the Sierra Club look sensible. California’s gas tax is 53.5 (soon to be 59.3) cents per gallon. Pennsylvania comes in at 59.7. More than a few that come in between .45 and .50.

Boston University used to be good but not anymore.
She had a dual degree in Economic and International Relations. LOL!!!!!

She has advocated for a progressive platform that includes:

Medicare for all,
a federal jobs guarantee,
guaranteed family leave, (Even bimbo LEFTY Ivanka wants that! Go back to NYC!)
establishing a Green New Deal,
abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement,
free public college and trade school,
infrastructure projects for renewable energy,
and a 70% marginal tax rate for incomes above $10 million.

Before running for Congress, she served as an
educational director for the 2017 Northeast Collegiate World Series for the National Hispanic Institute.
(She is Puerto Rican.)

Ocasio-Cortez majored in international relations and economics at Boston University,
graduating cum laude in 2011.

She has an Obama worldview!

Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign video began with her saying,
“Women like me aren’t supposed to run for office”
Her campaign posters’ design took inspiration from “revolutionary posters and visuals from the past…particularly those of Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta, Latino labor activists and co-founders of the United Farm Workers in the 1960s—and union badges

Ocasio-Cortez was endorsed by progressive and civil rights organizations such as
MoveOn,
Justice Democrats,
Brand New Congress,
Black Lives Matter, and Democracy for America

Following her win, Ocasio-Cortez explained her campaign strategy:

“I knew that if we were going to win, the way that progressives win on an unapologetic message is by expanding the electorate. That’s the only way that we can win strategically. It’s not by rushing to the center. It’s not by trying to win spending all of our energy winning over those who have other opinions. It’s by expanding the electorate, speaking to those that feel disenchanted, dejected, cynical about our politics, and letting them know that we’re fighting for them.”

She is an unapologetic hard left cultural Marxist.

It’s not only the 25,000 jobs but the direct spin-off, like restaurants, services, etc., associated with Amazon. Here in Wisconsin Amazon has a giant distribution center and directly across the road is Uihlein the huge packaging plant that supplies the boxes and tape. This dunce is so stupid I wonder why did she majorette in business studies. At least Donald went to Wharton the top school in this field.

The Democratic Party and its socialist agenda will eat itself up from the inside out. I believe that the commentary in this article may be a new beginning for sanity to prevail. I am expecting that the democratic socialist agenda will be seen by the majority of the electorate as being a poison pill for even those who do not fall into the so-called middle class. This socialist agenda of the Democratic party, when placed alongside what has become blatant anti-Semitism by many of its members, should be a good kick in the butt for reasonable people to see their way clear to supporting those opposed to that failing agenda. Those who oppose that addenda ought to broadcast what has happened here with as much gusto as they can, as it speaks volumes against the democrats who press for a false utopia, a utopia that will adversely affect this great nation. I hope!

Cuomo criticizes and decries the flow of middle and upper income residents from New York. The environment for any business in New York is grim and growing worse by the month. Soon New York will be hollowed out and wholly dependent on federal handouts to support its burgeoning budget and welfare programs. Yes, the liberal paradise may soon be in bankruptcy along with California and Illinois. May I suggest that all of the illegals be “encouraged” to leave wherever they are and seek sanctuary in these three states?

Socialism only works in a vacuum. It works in theory, but not in real life, because some people are more privileged than others. There will always be groups, and every group has a leader, and a want-to be-leader, as well as the followers. That part is “human nature,” and it is what makes this structure collapse.
Jeff Bezos is the richest man in the world. He could not spend every dollar he has, no matter how hard he tried. But he won’t give it away, nor will he invest his money where Socialism is raising its head. From Cuomo to DeBlasio, and on to AOC, the thinking is “for the greater good.” Never mind the individual who is trampled in the process.
I lived in Israel, on a kibbutz for a year. This was the only place where I have seen Socialism work, to a point. Whoever ran the kibbutz had the same power and vote as the dishwashers in the kitchen. Nobody got paid more than another. Everybody was entitled to the same food, shelter, medical aid and thought. And, that’s how it started but did not end that way.
What happened? The people believed in themselves, and they all worked hard. Pretty soon, the commune was making serious money and still sharing equally. There is a downside: While I was a volunteer, I did not have a vote on anything. I did not get to prosper as the “Chaverim” did. But then again, they no longer needed volunteers. These poor little farms did very well, and no longer used volunteers.
If that kibbutz had been dishonest, the people would have been working for somebody else, who would eventually let power go to his head and steal the wealth accumulated. The people were honest, and that did not happen.
In New York, which is well known for corruption and crazy people, you have a substantial population, and it is not well managed. People from Fantasyland are running the place. You have ultra-rich people telling poor people that other rich people are a problem, and nobody knows who to trust. So, not much usually changes. Perhaps the people will wake up and see how their politicians retarded their growth. Average earnings of $150,000 a year are not to be ignored, especially when you consider how many jobs there were. Bye-bye to idiots. Hello Darwin Award winners.

The sooner some people realize that EVERYTHING the DEMONrats touch turns brown and stinks, the sooner they’ll realize that THEY are the ones having to eat that brown stank and change their voting practices…………….
Or maybe they like eating sh_it,so they’ll keep voting for satans evil little minions, the ones who the term “progressive” means getting progressively WORSE in every way, which is probably closer to the truth for all too many of the brainwashed/braindead “wokers”.
Wonder what reality/dimension/universe they’re “woke” in ?

Cause it’s for damm sure it ain’t this one.

Idiocracy, here we come with occasional cortex leading the fray,uh,I mean way….YEEEEHAWW.
