L’assaillant, Karim L., était sorti de prison en octobre 2018 nous indique une source proche de l’enquête. L’homme de 36 ans avait été impliqué dans une affaire de meurtre en 2003 et était connu des services de police pour des faits de violences et d’agressions avec un couteau notamment.

The motive for the attack was not immediately clear but French media reports suggest the stabbing was not terror-related.
According to La Provence the suspect is a 36-year-old homeless man who is known to local police but not to counter-terror officers.
Police fired on the suspect after he pulled a gun while attempted to flee.

He was reportedly declared dead at the scene after being seriously injured in the shooting.
A security cordon is in place and national police are urging residents to avoid the area.
The knife attack in the southern port city comes amid a heightened state of alert in France after the country was hit by several deadly terror attacks.
