Florida Governor DeSantis fights back on Airbnb’s West Bank boycott

3

This shows how much elections matter. DeSantis’ opponent in Florida’s recent gubernatorial election, Andrew Gillum, had extensive ties to Jew-haters — so much so that DeSantis asked if he was running for mayor of Florida, or mayor of the Gaza Strip. Gillum’s ties to such groups set him apart from DeSantis, who was firmly pro-Israel in Congress and vowed to block Israel boycotts as Florida’s governor. Now he is being consistent and true by fighting back against Airbnb’s Nazi move. Airbnb is advancing and norming a racist, genocidal movement. This is exactly how horrors such as the Holocaust begin. First the delegitimization of the Jewish state and the dehumanization of the Jews. The boycott, divest and sanction Israel movement is no different from the Nazi boycott of Jewish businesses. The German boycott of Jewish businesses in the lead-up to the Holocaust was the direct antecedent to the whole “boycott Israel” movement.

“Florida Governor DeSantis fights back on Airbnb’s West Bank boycott,” by Alon Einhorn, Jerusalem Post, January 16, 2019 (thanks to Mark):

Following Airbnb’s boycott of West Bank settlements, announcing in November to remove settler listings from its popular website of temporary rentals in 191 countries, Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis ordered state officials to refrain from using Airbnb when conducting state business.

DeSantis claimed that the state of Florida will not be conducting business with any organization promoting discrimination led by the antisemitic Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (BDS).

“We have a moral obligation to oppose the Airbnb policy. It does target Jews specifically. I think that’s wrong,” DeSantis said. “Airbnb claims it’s a company of inclusion and yet this policy only affects Jews who have homes on the West Bank. It doesn’t appear to apply to anyone else on the face of the earth.”

“We thank Gov. DeSantis for his strong leadership in opposing the bigotry and antisemitism of the BDS Movement. He has positioned Florida as a leader, at a time when many states around the country have begun the process of evaluating Airbnb’s discriminatory new policy,” Shawn Evenhaim Chairman of IAC for Action commented….
