NY Times’ Paul Krugman says US part of ‘new axis of evil’

Samuel Chamberlain | Fox News December 12, 2018:

Nobel Prize-winning economist and New York Times opinion contributor Paul Krugman tweeted Monday that the United States had joined Russia and Saudi Arabia in a “new axis of evil,” after those three countries and Kuwait objected to the United Nations’ endorsement of a landmark study on global warming.

Story continues below advertisement

The phrase “axis of evil” was first used by former President George W. Bush in his 2002 State of the Union address. Bush used the phrase to refer to the governments of Iran, Iraq and North Korea, which he said were “arming to threaten the peace of the world” with weapons of mass destruction and sponsoring international terror groups.

This week’s dispute stemmed from whether diplomats attending this year’s U.N. climate summit in Poland would “welcome” the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s report projecting what would happen if average global temperatures rise by 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit and offering prescriptions to ensure they don’t rise higher. An agreement to “welcome” the report would have made it the benchmark for future policies.

The U.S., Russia, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait objected, calling for the study to be “noted” but not “welcomed.”

“The United States was willing to note the report and express appreciation to the scientists who developed it, but not to welcome it, as that would denote endorsement of the report,” the U.S. State Department said in a statement. “As we have made clear in the IPCC and other bodies, the United States has not endorsed the findings of the report.”

Krugman previously has used provocative language to criticize Republican officials and conservative economic policies. In January 2017, he tweeted that President Trump was “obviously mentally ill.” Later Monday, he called outgoing House Speaker Paul Ryan as a “phony” who was “neither serious nor honest.”

The ‘AXIS of EVIL’
– is in our hearts
– it’s not ‘out there’
– it’s ‘in here’ inside all of us
– that’s something the Left never understands
– they think evil is ‘The Bourgeoisie’ or ‘The Patriarchy’, or ‘Whites’
– but evil starts the moment we surrender to hate
– some hate in inevitable
– but it’s not good to bathe in it
– and we must always be ready with forgiveness

Yes
– corrodes the vessel
– and weakens it
– the simple, technical reason that hate is to be avoided
– is that it takes a lot of brain energy to hate continuously
– and most of that physical energy is wasted

Tokyo Rose? That reminds me. My father and his shipmates used to enjoy listening to her while out at sea in the South Pacific. One fine tropical day she named their ship and even gave its location as of several hours previously. The captain said a Jap submarine was trying to catch up with them for an attack. As a fleet tanker they were slow. But they escaped. Twas in early 1942.

Yes, IMHO if he thinks America is so bad he should feel free to get the hell out and find a country to his liking – like for instance Venezuela or Cuba or Vietnam. But no, he knows he has it good here and has no backbone to back up his screed of disdain for a country that allows him to say almost any nonsense he wants. Just like all those actors in the land of fruits and nuts that said that they would leave the country if Trump got elected. They too should feel free to not let the door bang them on the ass on the way out!

I guess the upcoming COOLING period will establish a new STARTING point for the WARMING that will follow?? Just wait till the lack of sunspot activity results in a prolonged cool or COLD period and then returns to it’s normal activity cycle – the doomsday nitwits will be staging a world wide suicide! We can only hope!

Pretty clear you have no scientific background. Here is what an an article in Scientific American (Ref. 1) had to say about sunspots and warming of the earth:

Many climate scientists agree that sunspots and solar wind could be playing a role in climate change, but the vast majority view it as very minimal and attribute Earth’s warming primarily to emissions from industrial activity—and they have thousands of peer-reviewed studies available to back up that claim.

But of course, your highly trained mind knows better.

Congratulations on your civility in responding. Cock-sure of your position based upon your narrow reading habits. There are any number of actual scientists that don’t agree with that assessment, but you will be unlikely to see them because they are opposed to your personal conclusions and not a part of the cabal that promotes anthropogenic global warming. Your mind is obviously “highly trained” to bias.

Congratulations on saying what I think in such a compassionate way, truly. 🙂

Thank you, Miss Banality, but I believe even here, one can make points and defend them with facts, logic and plausible arguments. A thesis need not be a formal document. People like you simply state your version of truth, with nothing to substantiate your claims. But your deliberate ignoring of reality does not change the fact that releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere does serve to warm the earth.

Yes, I have. Did you even read my comments on this thread? I gave a very simple and qualitative explanation (of an extraordinarily complex issue) of how, by allowing more solar energy to stay in the earth and its atmosphere, releasing greenhouse gases does increase global temperature. I even posed a question along those lines- how could it be otherwise?- to which nobody responded. You increase energy in a system, temperature will increase. It’s true of rubber bands, and it’s true of the earth.

You show every evidence of being unwilling to engage your mind. I have no doubt that it suits your convenience in life to go on believing that industrial activity and its associated combustion have no consequences for global climate, while you adduce no arguments to support your fantasy- that is why I refer to you as Miss Banality.

btw, industrial activity may affect its distinct area on this Earth, but there is no way mankind (other than nuclear war) can affect the climate changes that the Earth experiences over millennia. It is too arrogant to imagine that mankind can control volcanoes, earthquakes, solar activity, etc. So, anything, anyone can do in an isolated area due to smog or whatever, does not affect the whole earth. There is the arrogance referenced.

And the source of your clarity comes from where? Perhaps an archangel relayed this insight to you?

You then rattle on about volcanoes and other acts of nature, as if they some had a bearing on the discussion of anthropogenic climate change. You have very little insight into the matter, Katelyn, which, however poses no bar to your muddled “clarity”.

I have never claimed that nature does not have a huge bearing on what happens on Earth. In fact, life probably created the circumstances by which more complex organisms could thrive. I merely deny your totally unsubstantiated claim that human activity is not having a considerable effect on the planet, including its temperature- “history” is simply no guide to an unprecedented situation.

I realize I have been harsh with you, but I think the demands of truth requires a certain bluntness. Indeed, I am not the most tactful of men. I will note, in my interaction with you, I have provided a rationale for such ungentle things as calling you an idiot, unlike the goons here who have said that, and worse, to me. Say, in what way are my comments “pompous diatribes”?

You should study the matter a bit of global warming before making the kinds of extravagant claims you have. Let the search for truth, not your personal preferences, be your guide. After all, we are dealing with what our generation will bequeath our descendants.

I wish you no ill will, but do hope you can redeem yourself with a degree of intellectual rigor and integrity, neither of which are in abundant supply among commenters here.

“redeem yourself,” “not the most tactful of men,” “provided a rationale,” “calling you an idiot.”

Yep.

Have you seen pics from space? Enlightening they most definitely are.

Again, the idea that mankind can influence the Earth’s climate to any determinable degree is almost ludicrous. Thanks for the humbleness of an apology for calling me a idiot. I have no need to “redeem myself.”

Agree to disagree. cheers

Well what about “the pics from space”? Such comments mean nothing: they are pure, unsubstantiated twaddle. What “pics”? What do they show?

Yes, you tell me I didn’t cite any reasons or evidence for my statement, and then, almost in the same breath, say you didn’t read the comments, referring to them as “pompous diatribes”. That kind of contradiction marks you as an idiot in my my book: one wholly lacking in intellectual integrity. Sorry, but that is the way I see it.

the idea that mankind can influence the Earth’s climate to any determinable degree is almost ludicrous

As is your habit, you provide no evidence to support your claim. Ref 1, which I presume is beyond your intellectual scope (hey, don’t feel too bad- it challenges mine too), analyzed over 10,000 peer reviewed papers written by people who have devoted their professional lives to studying climate. It notes:

Among scientists who expressed a position on AGW[anthropogenic global warming] in their abstract, 98.4% endorsed the consensus [that humans are causing global warming].

Any way the 10,000+ peer reviewed papers were sliced, at least 97% reached that conclusion. The scientific consensus is overwhelming- but again, you know better.

That gives the lie to the notion that scientists who study climate are not in essential agreement on the matter of AGW (you, of course, who really know nothing about it, claim that the very idea of AGW is “almost ludicrous”). You are not a person whose thoughts can be taken seriously – and yes, I would go so far as to call you an idiot, a hugely arrogant one at that. At very least you should reserve judgement, and admit that you simply lack the expertise to offer insight on the matter.

I wonder at the motivation for your beliefs. Without knowing anything about the science of climate, you reach a conclusion greatly at variance with those who have studied the matter. What is in it for you? Personal convenience is the best answer I can come up with.

Please believe me when I say I take no satisfaction in calling you an idiot. But given how you have presented here, that is my opinion, and I see no reason to pull my punches: my concern for the future of humanity and my own search for truth leads me there. Again, unlike the “goon squad here” (among which I do not number you), I pay you the respect of telling you why.

History

And your mind that qualifies as an explanation of why human activity is not changing climate? Hardly- you show a truly pathetic understanding of the phenomenon. All history shows is that climate fluctuates naturally- history does not show that industrial activity cannot change global planetary climate as you claim.

You present here as someone with a banal and shallow mind.

Dusty, yours is an idiotic response.

Certainly by the standards of this site, I was not rude. But truly Bennie presents as someone who lacks a scientific background. If you don’t see that, the same could be said of you.

But more than that, I didn’t even state a position of my own: I merely criticized a rather moronic statement on Bennie’s part and cited a respected source that encapsulated the scientific community’s stand.

By the way, I am quite aware of scientists who could be numbered as climate skeptics. But they speak as journalists: none that I know of specialize in the field.

Say, I noticed you couldn’t bother responding to the rather elementary challenge I posted in my original claim about Krugman. I guess smear tactics are more up your alley than are intellectual exchanges.

I agree , “banal” would have been a better word. Believe me when I say my comments to you and Bennie have been far down on the list of insults hurled on this site.

But you cluck-cluck at my sarcasm to Bennie, whose comment was quite stupid- sunspots have at most a marginal effect on the earth’s temperature. However, you choose not to engage in any intelligent fashion on the substance of my comments on this thread.

Perhaps you would be so kind as to instruct me as to how a physical system can have an increase in net energy from its environment, yet, over time, not sustain an increase in temperature. The gristmill of the gods turns slow, but it grinds exceedingly fine.

Peace.

Actually, with this “get Trump” mentality among the elites, we have officially slid down the rabbit hole that was the waning centuries of the Roman Empire, where if an Emperor who is beloved by the masses irks just one member of the Praetorian Guard, he is for all practical purposes a dead duck. Krugman is just one more modern-day version of the Praetorian Guard. But there are so many others. Notably the Democrats who made up the “Trump / Russia” fairy tale to justify this planned coup d’etat to take out a duly elected leader and government.

Cowardice takes many forms : Cowardice of thought and conviction, cowardice of faith and conviction, cowardice of action and of complacency – truly the opposite of real progressiveness. The people do have power, more power than they know sometimes, but a morass of complacency, a laziness of thought and honor, can too easily take hold and be taken advantage of.

Too many slept, thinking all was well enough, when the wolf came a knocking and someone let him in. Too many representatives saw the slumber and thought they could make a good buck off of it, but there were others who also saw the slumber and wanted power as well and had a different agenda.

Liberty is a worthy partner but it comes with a price ; eternal vigilance can’t be just a slogan. A rot set in, in the offices and bastions of trust, those tasked with protecting the integrity of faith and the core of Western identity. That fifth column has invaded every level of civil service, every level of elected representation, every level of academia ; its pervasiveness is matched by its penetration and now thrives on the complacency and cowardice it fostered.
Some are waking up, but the dynamics have changed and we need to recognize that and prepare accordingly.

Despite his poor choice of words, probably intended for rhetorical effect, I will rise to a tepid defense of Krugman.

That global warming is happening, that it very likely to a considerable extent of anthropogenic origin, are incontrovertible. While I am no physicist, given that we are releasing greenhouse gases containing carbon that has been sequestered for millennia, all the while reducing the earth’s albedo, how could it be otherwise? We are leaving posterity a degraded planet, quite possibly one that cannot support anything like the earth’s current human population, and even flirting with causing our own extinction.

Is it evil in the sense the Nazis or the communists were, or North Korea and Islamists are? No. But Trump’s environmental policies could arguably place the USA into an Axis of Ignorance and Stupidity.

No flames please. If you care to challenge my comment fine, but present a reasoned response and do so civilly, if that is possible for the goon squad.

Ed Newbold

Your comments are fine, but are not based on actual scientific evidence. Global warming is a cyclical event not caused by humans, automobiles, or even cow farts (as stated by one paper). It is a natural event caused by nature and it will, as a pendulum does, swing back and forth, heating and cooling.

You disagree with essentially all the people who have devoted their professional lives to the study of climate. And yes, my comments are based on scientific evidence and reasoning.

I note you did not bother dealing with the question I raised in my comment. I realize that global climate is an extremely difficult problem, as the system has many confounding factors. But the plain fact is, over time, if you put energy into a system (and the earth is a system) its temperature will increase. It is elementary physics.

You, of course, offer no argument to support your thesis.

This leftist lunacy has been brewing since the 60s and Ayers, the cop killing commie rat is Soros XO.
Who remembers “The Weather Underground” ? They robbed banks and armored cars for kicks and planted bombs what killed cops,at least “Free as a bird on a technicality” Bill Ayers did back in the late 60s and early 70s.

The founder is William Ayers for those who don’t know the name.
The clintoons and obuzzards all worked for “Weatherman Bill” in his Lawfare offices.

NYT, Paul Krugman, et al are Delusional! NOT one country had MET the emission controls set forth in the Paris Accords. Currently, there are NO “emissions controls/goals” set forth for China, the largest polluter in the WORLD, nor India, wavering at #2 or #3 in the world. So far, “Climate Change” has been used to STEAL MONEY from Western Civilization nations, to supposedly STOP climate change. However, NOTHING they have embraced has been achieved, nor proven to actually WORK!

Climate CHANGES! IF it didn’t, WE would ALL be living in the Last Ice Age, with Ice Sheets covering vast portions of North America, Europe, Asia, etc…… There were NO major Human carbon emissions that caused the melting of those Ice Sheets, Folks!

UN IPCC members have admitted their climate change agenda is not about improving our environment, but rather their globalist agenda to redistribute wealth from nations like ours to poorer nations.

A real eye opener for those who are falling for this hoax and the Paris Accord too.

Thankfully we have a president who’s not going to allow Americans to pay for this globalist hoax.

I strongly suspect the Axis Of Evil is the GOP and the DNC. The democrats were lost before they formed the KKK, I don’t know when the republicans sold out to the NWO.
