What Happens When the Lights Go Out — Permanently?

146

You just woke up on a weekday and notice it’s much lighter outside than usual. You’re used to getting up early. You look at your alarm clock and see nothing but a black display acting like a dark mirror. You lift your watch from your bedside table. The second hand has stopped and the electronic display is gone. You try to turn your light on, but no luck. You hop out of bed and head for the kitchen. You programmed your coffee maker to start brewing at 6:30 in the morning. No coffee in the pot, and the green numerals that display the time are gone. You go into the living room push a button on the remote to turn your TV on. Black screen reflecting your image. You look at your antique grandfather clock as it chimes 9:00 AM. That’s working, but you’re already late for work. Your usual wakeup routine has timed out.

You have no way of knowing what’s going on, but at 12:01 A.M. Eastern Time, the electric grid was attacked in three ways: The Eastern Interconnection was taken out by hackers; The Electric Reliability Council of Texas was brought down by attacks on transformers at critical substations, the Western Interconnection went dark when a SCUD missile with a nuclear warhead was launched from an empty oil tanker and set to explode at an altitude of 100 miles above the West Coast. It sent an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) crashing soundlessly down on not only the Western Interconnection, but as insurance, it takes out more than just the Western Interconnection.

The tanker sinks swiftly after multiple explosions fourteen miles outside of our international waters are reported by passing ships that witnessed the blasts. It was scuttled to avoid its identification and nationality.

Story continues below advertisement

The timer on the government’s estimate clicks on—if the power stays out for months or a year, upwards of 92% of the U.S. population will go extinct. And you thought that only a nuclear holocaust could cause that kind of carnage.

While the scenario above is extremely unlikely, in fact, any one of those attacks could take out the grid in an instant, the worst being an EMP, which takes out anything with electronic parts: all communications, cyberspace, electricity (including all solar panels), all automobiles manufactured after 1974, all electronics, a larger than acceptable number of weapons in the military, the whole nine yards. In approximately a month, all sixty-two nuclear power plants, some of which have more than one reactor and all spent-fuel-rod pools in the U.S. will go Fukushima after all, the generators and batteries pumping cool water over them —massive meltdowns casting nuclear contamination into the Jet Stream, water supplies and the top six inches of topsoil nationwide.

Even if a reactor is offline, the nuclear fuel rods need cool water flushed over them to keep them from reaching critical temperatures. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission requires all nuclear plants to have only a one-week backup supply of diesel fuel to power their generators during an extended outage. One week. There’s no way to pump gas, so it must be siphoned out of whatever gas stations have it, and once the tanks run dry, no more deliveries.

Think it can’t happen? Consider that a single human error at an Ohio power plant took out the power to the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeastern regions of the U.S, and parts of Canada in 2003 which is also known as Northeast blackout of 2003. That pretty much sums up the fragility of an electric grid we cannot live without but that has a foundation of parts dating back to the first power interconnection ever built. We’ve been laying new technology over the old ever since, and some of the software controlling the grid is Unix-based—too easily hacked already by the Chinese, Russians and possibly Iran. It’s truly the ultimate nightmare.

Our bet is that you’ve heard about EMPs and what would happen if we were hit by two or three. We also believe that in few if any of the stories you’ve read have included the nuclear meltdown aspect of this, most likely because the government doesn’t want to cause panic or the author hadn’t thought about our nuclear plants. This is as true Armageddon for the United States of America, the most powerful nation on the planet, which, after a year, will comprise a population of 8% of what it had been before the attack.

Many who have served in the military, and took survival training, will be able to survive. Those who depend on technology to run their lives will be frozen in time with their finger on a smart phone screen that no longer can respond.

Unless we take the appropriate measures to protect our electric grid and harden military assets to withstand the detonation of an enhanced-EMP detonated 300 miles above the center of our country, Americans could become an endangered species. The pulses would not harm us, we would in be essence instantly paralyzed and rendered deaf, dumb and blind, all of us wondering what happened?

There has been much discussion about a standard EMP (an electromagnetic pulse) attack, the result of the detonation of a nuclear weapon at between 25 and 300 miles in space. It would take as many as three EMPs to take out our entire electric grid. An enhanced-EMP, on the other hand, involves the detonation of a small, low-yield hydrogen bomb that would send out an E1 pulse that would hit the electric infrastructure of the entire country with a massive amount of gamma rays that will take out our entire electric grid and most anything with electronics powering them, “all at once.” Gone among other things would be electricity, communications, transportation, running water, food and fuel. We would be suddenly thrust back to the 1800s.

Worse, estimates by the government and those of us who study the potential damage done by an enhanced-EMP are absolutely stunning. At risk of disappearing within a year of the collapse of the electric grid is a staggering ninety percent (90%) of the U.S. population.

In addition, our ability to respond to such an attack is questionable. Far too many military assets will be rendered useless after an attack of this kind. The DOD has testified before Congress that its source of 99% of its electricity comes from the civilian grid.

One way or another, judgment is coming to America. Who will be able to stand?

Yours is the only viable and biblically-reliable conclusion a spiritually-discerning individual can reach-particularly since America is mentioned nowhere among the nations in end-time prophecy.

Some of us have been warning about this particular imminent threat for decades. Yet most have not, and will not, heed the warning.

Good article, Frank Gaffney has discussed this issue in-depth as well. He mentioned there are 50 key transformers across the US which power the grid. An EMP would take them all out, they’re extremely costly and complicated/time-consuming to build and there are no spares lying around. The scenario you mentioned isn’t far from actually happening.

Politicians in Pakistan recently threatened to nuke the Netherlands over the Mohammad cartoons. It is also a central hub of international terrorism and the man running the country Imran Khan is close friends with the Taliban.

So basically it is like an ISIS state with nukes. How hard would it be for them to hand them off to Al Qaeda or other terrorists to use against America? Don’t forget that Pakistan was also hiding Osama bin Laden for many years, until a good guy, Dr Afridi tipped us off to his location. Fkg Obama let this man get jailed and tortured as his reward for helping us, rather than allowing him to escape the country.

As Pam always reminds us, we can ignore reality but not the consequences of ignoring reality. Frankly I don’t think we should be playing games with Iran, Pakistan and NK. They should be denuclearized ASAP. Additionally the US grid must be hardened against EMP attacks. The money is there all that is lacking is the political will.

While I like your idea it is largely impractical as the nuclear fallout will travel around the world poisoning us and our crops. Besides the US, Europe, Israel, India have plenty of conventional weapons to take out all Islamic regimes on the planet if they wanted.

I have a solution which costs the least amount of suffering/lives: regime change. Invade these countries, topple the evil regimes, confiscate all their nukes and convert them into secular democracies.

Of course there will be many insurgents but the good thing is that we can arm the Christians-Atheists, non-Muslims basically to take back their countries. So it requires little effort/money on our part and the problem takes care of itself, instead of occupying all these nations. Muslims will be given a chance to leave Islam while those who wish to wage war for Allah will be eradicated.

Additionally we need to deal with the 5th Column Muslims in our own countries. We can’t go bombing Islamic states willy-nilly without angering the Muslims in our towns/cities who will no doubt start attacking us on our own soil so of course they will need to be interned and preferably deported.

Our military openly admits they’re, essentially, defenseless in the face of an EMP attack due to their dependency on the civilian electric power grid which is not hardened.

Translation: All the weapons (and budget) in the world won’t help our nation’s military if they cannot use them!

The author of this article admits the same as our military: “…our ability to respond to such an attack is questionable. Far too many military assets will be rendered useless after an attack of this kind. The DOD has testified before Congress that its source of 99% of its electricity comes from the civilian grid.”

Once we succeed in toppling the current government, then what. Do we leave? We did a “regime change” in Libya and look how that turned out. or Cuba. What you fail to see, is that when one regime is eliminated, the one that replaces it, is far worse. Didn’t quite think that one through, did you, sport? Thank god we don’t have pea-brained fools like you running the US Military, well you’d get laughed out of the boardroom for that comment. Your non-interventionism makes you sound a lot like a Democrat or a cowardly Republican.

No you don’t need to send in the entire US military to bring down any Islamic regime. Even John Bolton suggested we’d bring down the Mullahs in Iran with airstrikes and very limited to zero ground forces.

Most of the Islamic world is very poor excluding the oil-rich nations. Additionally if you read my post then you’d know I already said that we’d hand the country over to Secularists (Christians, Atheists, Hindus, etc) who will handle the job of de-Islamifying their own countries.

Obviously so we don’t hand the country to another set of Muslims like we did in Iraq/Afghanistan. So either you didn’t read what I wrote and you were just desperate to “win” the argument or you have poor comprehension skills.

It’s clear you have very limited knowledge of the military and the Islamic world. You’re completely out of your depth. But do continue, I have no problem making a fool out of you for your obvious lack of knowledge.

Also what’s your solution? Sit back and let Muslims drop nukes on us? Ya good thinking genius!

Are you seriously trying to suggest I’d support anything that Obama/Shrillary would do (ie Libya)? You’re mad, plum loco if you think that.

“non-interventionism?” What a laugh. Anybody who knows anything about military strategy, which you obviously don’t, is that you CANNOT take over a country with airstrikes alone. They are merely the first step. You must then go in with ground troops. That’s where it gets ugly. But, you in you’re video game fantasy world, think that we can just drop a few Tomahawks and voila! We’ve won the war! You’re completely deluded. Especially after that comment that we’d ‘hand the country over to secularists.’ Just like that, eh? So easy, right? I’m suggesting that taking over any muslim country, the ‘leaders’ you would be installing would be far worse. Then what. Go in and take them out too? You’re out of it as evidenced by your lack of any up votes here. So, it’s not just me who thinks you are in need of some quality mental hospital time. Cheers!

Oh, you know this is going to happen. So you might as well prepare for it. Practice one day of no electricity frequently and unexpectedly, once in awhile.

Stock up on food, water, etc, weapons and ammo ready. Train to live and die like they did in the 1800’s. Visit lots of stores that have hand-operated devices.

Goodbye.

The best preparation, by far, is to ‘get right with God.’ The wise will repent of their sins and turn to the Savior (the Lord Jesus Christ) for salvation before it’s too late.

Does anyone, really, believe our enemies (Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, etc.) will ‘hold their fire’ once we’ve been rendered completely helpless and vulnerable because of an EMP attack?

America cannot, possibly, survive.

“Murkowski Blocks Effort to Protect US Power Grid
Thursday, 14 October 2010 06:50 PM

In a surprising election-year gambit, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski has gutted legislation with strong bipartisan support that would protect the U.S. power grid from solar flares and Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) weapons, to benefit a “clean” energy bill backed by Senate Democrats.

The original bill, known as the GRID Act, authorized the federal government to take emergency measures to protect some 300 giant power transformers around the country. It passed the House of Representatives by a unanimous voice vote in August, an unusual show of bipartisan support in this Congress.

But when it went to the Senate, the bill was gutted of the measures to protect the power grid from EMP attack by Murkowski and committee chairman Jeff Bingamon, D-N.M., while other portions of the bill were added to her own energy bill, S. 1462, the American Clean Energy Act of 2009.

“Sen. Murkowski stripped H.R. 5026 of the main elements designed to protect our infrastructure and did not add them to her bill,” said Andrea Lafferty, executive director of the Traditional Values Coalition.

An aide to Murkowski said that Murkowski voted for stripping out the EMP provisions of the bill on practical, not political, grounds.”

So obviously Sen. Murkowski believed it was more “practical” to put clean energy concerns above the lives of 90% of the American people; that’s the percentage of the U.S. population that has been calculated would be dead 12 to 18 months after an EMP attack on our country.
This is why we need to do some major, serious house/swamp cleaning in our government/Senate/Congress!!

I agree the EMP issue and Islamic terrorism should take the highest priority. Global Warming (GW) is real too but it should take a lower priority, people are also switching to electric cars and possibly hydrogen in the future.

So if we get off oil/gas, then we stop making our Muslim enemies filthy rich, while solving the global warming problem at the same time.

Do keep in mind the only people that are claiming GW is not real are conspiracy nuts and oil-gas lobby propagandists. NASA, NOAA, 64,000 Climate Scientists (about 99% of them) have reached a consensus that it is happening.

When they claimed CFCs were putting holes in the Ozone layer where were the deniers and skeptics then? If we believed Scientists over CFCs, why doubt their expertise on Climate change caused by dumping billions of tons of CO2 into the air every year?

Don’t get me wrong, I oppose any schemes to rip-off consumers (like carbon tax), but we can’t deny facts and reality-we just need to come up with sensible solutions. Back to my first point, GW isn’t a critical issue yet-we have bigger fish to fry first.

Both Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide are gases found in Earth’s atmosphere
•Both are essential to life as we know it
•These gases cycle from plants to animals and back again

If people are a problem, WHY are we taking in REFUGEES and countless illegals and immigrants?
Wouldn’t we want to reduce that to go along with the global warming farce? Liberals are no longer consistent with logic anymore! Only God controls the weather and it runs in cycles. There is NO CRISIS!

Memo To Congress: French Riots Show Why U.S. Carbon Tax Should Be A Non-Starter

Literally thousands of engineers, scientists, academics and Nobel Prize winners have criticized the flawed science behind the theory that we inevitably face disastrous over-heating of the planet.

“But fossil fuels are a blessing, not a curse. They are in large part responsible for the record growth in the global economy in the past two centuries and especially over the last 18 years, helping to pull literally hundreds of millions of once-destitute people out of poverty.”

NASA/NOAA falsifies data.

There are no ’64k’ climate scientists. Not sure where you got that stat from, but it likely is a social justice stat cobbled together to make a better sound bite.

‘fringe loons who deny Science’ … is not an argument.

An ‘argument’ goes something like this: CO2 absorbs less than 5% of the IR spectrum, and less than 100% of the frequencies absorbed. The lack of IR opacity is well known to the IPCC, which is why their reports depend heavily on a process called ‘water-forcing’ which is a multiplier (a hedonic calculation) to multiply the effect of CO2 by transferring the alleged absorption factor to water. This could make sense because water can uptake the enthalpy of the energy absorbed by the CO2, but it depends upon an as yet unproven step of transferring captured energy from the CO2 fraction of the atmosphere to the water vapor fraction. …

I don’t think you’re ready to take that argument apart.

Dan Knight

In other words, you do not have sufficient understanding of the science to make your own assessment of the data.

Judging data by the authority of the author is a weak argument.

And dismissing scientists based on alleged conflict of interest is hypocritically when you accept data from scientists who have overt and obvious and irrefutable conflicts.

None of the government or university scientists can speak to this issue without risking total personal destruction – and meanwhile they are offered grants and perks far greater than anything available to the ‘denier’ side.

It’s rather easy to discredit the “Climate Scientists” data.

1. Beginning with the temperature proxy data from the Greenland ice cores. These cores confirm that the planet went through a mini-ice age, which ended approximately 1850. We have been warming since then despite the fact that significant anthropogenic CO2 levels have only begun to rise since 1960.

2. The same data shows that previous warming periods were warmer than current times. The medieval warming period was warmer than now. Grapes were grown in Greenland by Viking colonists during that period. The Roman warming was positively balmy – allowing grapes to be sown in Sweden. But all that pales compared to the Holocene climate optimum.

3. CO2 levels have been higher in the past. Albeit they have been low during the current ice age, CO2 levels were higher long ago. This trend correlates with warmth, but it also correlates with a strong biosphere with strong plant and animal fauna.

4. Temperature swings in the ice corp data are much greater than anything we have experienced. And much faster. And the swings do not follow swings in CO2. Rather CO2 rises when temperature rises and falls with falling temperature.

5. The climate has been cooling for the last 10k+ years since the Younger Dryas ended, but with long leisurely warming swings during the longer cooling trend. We are currently entering a short-term cooling in a longer warming in this long-term cooling trend.

It is likely nothing affects these trends save the Sun, volcanism, and extraterrestrial events such as coronal mass ejections or comet strikes.

Just these five points falsifies all of the assertions made by the IPCC climate alarmists.

If you want to learn about climate change, go to reputable scientific sources like NASA, not conspiracy loon sites on the net. While plants do absorb some CO2, there aren’t enough to absorb it all.

By burning fossil fuels, we’re dumping CO2 into the atmosphere causing a greenhouse effect. If you want to prove that NASA, NOAA and 64,000 Climate Scientists are lying, then you need to discredit their data.

Posting childish cartoons with no scientific backing would get you laughed out of an conference of scientists who study this for a living. How we solve the issue is another matter but you can no more denying the scientific fact of Climate Change than you could Gravity.

NASA is not a reputable source – and it has not been in decades.

Carter and the Demokkkrats threatened to destroy NASA – for the crimes of making America look good, exposing the success of Western Civilization for all to see, and defeating the Soviet enterprise in a race the evil Whitey was supposed to lose.

NASA ‘wisely’ chose to kow-tow to the ‘party’ and started sucking up. This did not work at the time, and they would have been scaled back, but for the support of the military. This deal led directly to the Challenger accident, but it kept the agency alive long enough to attenuate its relationship with the Moon program.

Global Warmunism and Ozone layer depletion became flagship programs under Bush 41, but these had taken years of fake science to develop.

For emphasis, obviously and to denote them as a group/category. Some people don’t seem to realize it is an actual field of science and they’re the experts, not some anons on the internet.

Speaking of someone needing grammar lessons, why did you add an apostrophe when you’re referring to the expertise of scientists? You’re also missing a definite article “the.”

Well you seem to be that special kind of stupid who’d believe climate scientists would make such a claim that we’d all be under water right now. Obviously these absurd straw man fallacies are invented by the Climate Deniers themselves.

Get a real education on Climate Change by researching my links in the post above rather than be a stooge of the Oil/Gas lobby.

Do you have your head up your ass? You are living in a Secular-Democracy right now. The US Constitution is a Secular document, not religious. It’s sad that Christards have to be constantly reminded we don’t live in a Theocracy.

It is Secularism that allowed us to advance and enjoy the freedoms that we do. Don’t forget a few short centuries ago the parties of God were slaughtering each other over whose imaginary friend is real.

Why would I use an apostrophe, in “scientist’s”? That, little one, is due to “expertise” following “scientist’s”. An apostrophe, in that instance shows possession, as in the expertise belonging to that “scientist”. Now, that you have shown your exceedingly poor level of education, with special emphasis of the printed word, you have shown all that needs to be seen.
Now, little one, continue to HUMILIATE yourself. You, most assuredly, ARE (special emphasis added) a special kind of stupid.

Ban Islam

LOL, looks like I’m going to have to educate you on the proper use of grammar Achmed as well as Climate Change.

Firstly you incorrectly used the apostrophe after the word “scientist” which would denote a singular (one scientist’s knowledge/expertise) when you were actually referring to a group of scientists (plural).

Now the appropriate place was to put the apostrophe after the plural noun like this: scientists’ (to denote possession).

However it is not necessary to use an apostrophe after plural nouns, hence my questioning of you using it at all, check the rules on grammar, you’ll see I’m right on this:

https://grammar.yourdictionary.com/punctuation/apostrophe-rules.html

Enjoy that egg on your face.

I destroyed you on your argument on Secularism so what other subject would you like me to own/embarrass you on?

Little one, I did not use “the” preceding “scientist’s”. To that, I readily admit. To show possession, it is necessary to use an apostrophe (‘), even with the plural. You are only furthering your display of an exceedingly low level of education. Now, be a good little girl and cease ATTEMPTING (special emphasis added) to address your social and intellectual betters. However, I must admit, you are SO much fun to laugh AT, while you go about displaying your “special kind of stupid”.

You truly should seek out competent instruction in reading comprehension, in order to avoid being “owned” and having your “ass kicked” time, after time, after time. You poor little thing. I truly pity you.

On to your sheer idiocy on climate change, I stated the fact that climate “scientists” had Palau totally underwater, years ago. I have acquaintances in Palau with whom I still keep contact. They ain’t underwater, little one.

What a dunce, you admit I was right on one of the grammar points I raised but not the other. As I already demonstrated even using proof from a site on grammar rules an apostrophe isn’t necessary when using plural nouns, also you put it in the wrong place, it comes at the end of the word “scientists.”

Seriously you need to go back to grammar school if you can’t even understand the basic rules.

Then this moron implies I’m the one who needs an education. *rolls eyes* If you weren’t so stupid you’d be able to come up with more imaginative insults like I have, but the limits of your knowledge are very self-evident.

There you go, HUMILIATING yourself again, little one. You dealt with an apostrophe (‘), which is punctuation. The main difference between grammar and punctuation is that grammar is the study of the way sentences are constructed in a language while punctuation is the practice of using established symbols in order to separate elements and clarify the meaning of a text.
Little one, your education is SO lacking that you don’t even know the difference. Now, once again, I urge you to be a good little girl and cease ATTEMPTING (special emphasis added) to address your social and intellectual betters.

Ozone layer ‘deniers’ did exist. They were just deplatformed, demonetized, and erased just like conservatives are being erased from the net today. It was much easier to do back then when most fools did not realize the enemedia was already a wholly owned subsidiary of the Left.

Anthropogenic Global Warming is a ‘hoax’ because most of us are too polite to call it what it is. I must dismiss Pamela’s comment that this “scenario is extremely unlikely…” as wishful thinking and contradictory to the premise and the call for immediate action. It would be nice to think the USA does not have enemies that would love to destroy our country and people, but in fact there are many countries where there is widespread support for bloody action. History is replete with war, aggression, rape, genocide, and atrocities, from the earliest times to the very present. Our Christian values are not shared in the Muslim or socialist/communist spheres or among the many dictatorships of the world. If you can imagine something like this, it is a warning.

Hey Mark:
I agree with you that it is more likely than not. Pamela just does not understand Christian end-time theology and the fact that the US is nowhere to be found in last days Scripture, although every other major Empire in history is clearly described, in much detail. No U.S.A., no mention of the most powerful nation ever in world history, leads many theologians to believe that the US is going down. The EMP is only one way that destruction can come. The Rapture is another. Imagine some (guessing) 30 million of America’s best taxpayers disappear. Poof. Gone. Hmmmmmm. How about Mr. Trump declaring Martial Law ( I think there is a very high probability as Military trials are the ONLY way that he can drain the swamp by avoiding all of Obama’s lawyers and judges in the civil system. (That will also most likely bring on civil war). Yellowstone (or many others) could blow it’s top.
There are a few more but I will let you use your imagination. All of these events are high potential as God continues His final act that He began on Dec. 6, 2017. (Guess what happened on that day). 🙂

It’s so strange. All this talk about what ‘they’ can do to ‘us’ (meaning, the USA). What ‘they’ can do to ‘us’, we can do to them 1,000 times over, pretty much at the same time. At any rate, it won’t matter. Let’s talk about the madness of the New Dark Age that began around the turn of the 20th century, and in which we are living now.

Yes and no. It’s entirely possible such a result could happen. But it is also unnecessary. As with the Y2K ‘crisis’ – the effect of an EMP on electronics is overrated. Yes, my consumer electronic junk may be fried – and the transformers powering my home – built long ago and far away before the Libtards had their jackboot on every decision made by every engineer in the country – might blow up if it is within range of an attack …

But much of the grid can be hardened. Plus the grid is supposed to be blocked off to stop surges from sweeping across the grid. Emergency procedures are in place to take down loads to prevent damage to the grid.

Now – I am not naive, and I have no way to know that the necessary steps have been/are being/ or will be/ taken to harden the grid. But if the system goes down … it’s not because we do not know how to prevent it.

As with so many ‘man-made’ disasters, this one, if it happens, will be the consequence of deliberate and intentional decisions to leave the grid vulnerable to such an attack.

That will signify the “End of The Beginning”, with the Democrats tearing at each other.

Hopefully it will be the self sufficient and reasonable left/

If you haven’t thought about this, try reading “One Second After”, by William Forschen. He has been trying to get Congress to fix our grid, since, at least 2002. His novel, about surviving after “The Day”, will give you an interesting perspective of life without power. Unfortunately, “The 9/11 Report” came out, the same day, that a paper he wrote to Congress did. His paper was buried. The US government wastes more money, in a day, than would be required to harden our grid. The self serving scumbags in Washington are selling us out. They’ll have a place to hole up.
And, yes, Babylon will fall.

The sun could do the same thing. That’s called a “Carrington Event.” A few years ago a massive corona mass ejection missed the earth by just one week on the earth’s orbit.
