Clinton Operative and Top Democrat Jailed for Mass Corruption Former Hillary Clinton staffer sentenced to two years in prison following conviction
By Jay Greenberg, Neon Nettle, November 30, 2018:
A top Democrat and key Clinton operative has been jailed for two years on multiple corruption charges. Hillary Clinton’s former staffer Kathleen Kane was the first female Democrat elected as Pennsylvania’s Attorney General and won her 2012 election by a landslide following public endorsements from ex-President Bill Clinton. More than two years after Kane was convicted for leaking grand jury information and lying about it, a Pennsylvania judge ordered the commonwealth’s former attorney general to report to prison by 9 a.m. on Thursday. The 52-year-old Democrat had been free on $75,000 bail while she appealed her sentence of 10-to-23-month in prison.
On Monday, the state Supreme Court announced it has declined to take up her case. According to Fox News, Judge Wendy Demchick-Alloy revoked Kane’s bail saying that the time she could remain free on appeal has expired and ordered the former Democrat official to remand herself to jail. The Montgomery County district attorney’s office formally requested the order earlier Tuesday, arguing the Supreme Court decision was the end of the legal road for Kane. Two different appellate courts have reviewed her case, yet her judgment of sentence remains,” District Attorney Kevin Steele said of Kane’s appeals. “She received a fair trial, her guilt was proven beyond a reasonable doubt, and now it is time for her to serve her sentence.”
ormer Hillary staffer received public endorsements from Bill Clinton for her Pennsylvania Attorney General election campaign A former Hillary Clinton staffer, Kane was the first woman and first Democrat elected as Pennsylvania’s AG but resigned from office immediately after her corruption conviction in 2016. Kane was arrested in 2016 for disclosing to the press confidential information about a state investigation. Critics claimed she illegally released the info for purely political reasons. In August of 2016, a Montgomery County jury convicted Kane on nine counts, including perjury, official oppression, and obstruction of justice. “The Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s denial of discretionary review should be considered the conclusion of (Kane’s) avenues for direct appeal in state court,” DA Steele argued. The lower appeals court also rejected Kane’s argument that she should have been allowed to prevent all Montgomery County judges from handling her case, as well as her claims that evidence against her was illegally obtained and that she had been the victim of selective and vindictive prosecution.
