New Iranian rocket smuggled into Gaza could threaten IDF defenses including Iron Dome

Nov 17, 2018, DEBKA:

Story continues below advertisement

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad was referring to a new artillery rocket from Iran when its Al-Qods wing claimed to have wrecked the Ashkelon house on Tuesday, Nov. 13 with a new weapon. Neither the IDF spokesman nor any other Israeli official disclosed that at least one of the 470 rockets fired from Gaza into Israel in 48 hours had been supplied by Tehran to its Palestinian proxy with instructions to start using it. Jihad did not name the weapon except to say it had medium range.

However, DEBKAfile sources can identify it as a Falaq-2 with a range of 11km and 333mm caliber, manufactured at the Shahid Bagheri Industries complex which is part of Iran’s aerospace industries. It is designed to destroy defense systems, such as artillery emplacements, Iron Dome batteries, armored force concentrations – whether over ground or in trenches, as well as combat engineering equipment and command centers. The Iranian rocket showed its destructive capabilities in Ashkelon, killing a Palestinian worker and injuring two women. On Thursday, Gen. Mohammed Baqeri, Iran’s chief of staff, gleefully praised “the [Palestinian] victory in the Gaza Strip as turning a new leaf for the resistance. Victories will continue until the Zionist entity is no more,” he crowed.

One of Falaq-2’s advantages is its mobility. It is not launched from stationary batteries, but from any combat 4×4 vehicle or jeep, each of which carries two rockets. The team activates stabilizers on either side of the vehicle before firing. Jihad secretly received the weapon from its Iranian masters two years ago but was only ordered to use it in the latest Palestinian rocket offensive on Israel, thereby enabling Iran to target its first Israeli civilian population.

The deployment of the Iranian Falaq-2 in the Gaza Strip confronts Israel’s security authorities with some hard questions:

How was it smuggled into the Palestinian enclave?
Why didn’t the IDF destroy the Falaq-2 stores in Gaza as soon as they were delivered – or later?
Why didn’t the IDF warn the people living on the Gaza border that their homes faced this deadly threat?
Why didn’t the IDF knock out the teams launching it?
Why does Israel refrain from hitting Iranian targets in the region in retaliation?
Is this why Avigdor Lieberman after quitting as defense minister, warned local leaders on the Gaza border that within a year the threat from Hamas and Jihad would be equal to that of Hizballah?

Those mobile weapons platforms are easy targets for Israeli fighter jets. A few supersonic flyovers of the Gaza strip at 500 feet would give people in the Gaza strip a warning. If there is another missile launched, the response will be done with extreme prejudice and the collateral damage will be high.

What if they site the rocket launchers at mosques, schools or hospitals?

tell me again, who was the genius that gave gaza back to the muslims? he and his descendants should be given a pistol and a candy bar and told to sneak into gaza and disable these rockets. would be a good precedent to set for the next idiot

Dad wanted a NWO and GWB wanted “nation building”….
No wonder they Bush’s wanted Hillary over Trump.
Trump is destroying their NWO… at least I hope he pulls it off.

If the kite flyers were killed off from the gitgo none of this woild be happening. That decision gave hamas the 1st victory by allowing the burning of Israel. The 2nd was blowing so many empty buildings to no avail. If Israel would get the lawyers off the battlefield and would have blown the hamas TV station with their personnel it would have been transformative. In the cruel math on the mid east the arabs quit for awhile when casualties become untenable. At the weekly border follies hamas is sacrificing its surplus population. Victory for hamas. 175/200 dead is nothing for them.

Smuggled in? If something that size can be smuggled in it makes nonsense of the Hamas (and anti Israel protesters) claims that Israel has Gaza sealed tight as a drum

Iran is dragging the world toward its next global conflict with actions like this. I wouldn’t blame the Israelis one bit if they went after Iran for actions like this!

I was reading about a similar situation, similar to the situation where the IDF is being hamstrung by being forced to used restricted tactics required by higher authority. The British Navy was forced for 70 years during the 1700s to use line-ahead tactics in battle, even in situations where it was no longer appropriate, resulting in failure to achieve victory after victory, due to strict rules imposed by higher authority. One admiral was even hanged for violating those tactics, even though it was the correct thing to do. The man on the spot has to have freedom to judge second by second. Finally some captains, including Nelson, started rebelling, culminating in Nelson’s great victory over Napoleon’s fleet at Trafalgar.

You american fuckerrs invaded wrong country and for fake reason. Iran was supposed to be your target, not Iraq.
Your beloved retarded bUsh had you all wound-up on weapons of mass distraction.
Never foud or located one. How fabulously retarded you look now. Whole world disliked you, most even hate you.
Morons, you destabilized whole Middle East, you caused that stupid “Arab Spring” nonsense, which made millions of camel fuckerrs to move to Europe now.
Fuckerrs, I hear people wishing war on you. Very sad thing to hear for a man who had that country of yours, the fuccken USA in love.

Um Saddam used mustard gas on his own people retard (i.e. Iraqi Kurds). If you don’t think mustard gas is a WMD why don’t you and your dumb buddies and family members get together and try huffing some? It’ll clear up your adult acne as well as your halitosis.

Moron, you start drag my family into your perverted argument? Why don’t you do basic equation instead.
How many people Sadam killed with his chemicals and how many of innocent people died because of your invasion? Are you capable to compare and understand the difference?
I guess man from country where there are hundreds of homicide killings among you in each of your cities every year, has no compassion for thousands of innocent people whose deaths you caused in foreign land – in the name of democracy.
Not to mention all atrocities your invasion subsequently caused in the whole Middle East.
All together, deaths perhaps of millions.
Sadam never even dreamed about this scale of killing you started and caused.

Tell it to the Kurds who died a$$hole. Saddam was unilaterally firing SCUD missiles into Israel from mobile launchers. If the US hadn’t done something Israel would have HAD TO.
The majority of civilian deaths in Iraq were caused by your fellow muslum vermin killing each other.
Go suck allah’s bawsack.

They should test the Iranian defences by attempting to destroy the Shahid Bagheri Industries complex. Be nice if they could destroy the factory and the Iranians couldn’t stop them.

In a dictatorship finding money for weapons is never a problem. Only democracies care about their own people starving. Which is why they don’t fight each other.

That would entail the IAF flying over at least one “neutral” islamic state to get to Iran. Iran recently bought Russia’s latest SAM missile system as well. Do IAF fighter-bombers have the range to get to Iran w/a full bomb load?

Badger

Who knows what Israel’s offensive capabilities are? That’s why I used the word ‘test.’ Israel is destroying targets, some of them mobile, deep inside Syria with stand-off missiles from over the Med and as far as I know the Syrian defences, which are largely run by Russians, either have been unable to prevent the strikes or the Russians have turned a blind eye to them.

Would Saudi Arabia permit overfly to enable attacks on their own greatest enemy? Would they even allow IAF jets to be based on Saudi sand just for a few days? There is a lot of difference in Arab-Israel relations these days compared to a few years ago.

Then there is the question of just how much are Israel prepared to demonstrate their capabilities short of an all-out war. They must be holding a lot back. Trump and not Obama is running things now and I am sure the Americans can do a pretty good job of suppressing Iran’s defences and some of that capability must be shared with Israel.

Sooner or later is must happen. Neither the US nor Israel can, singly or jointly, allow the mullahs to get the bomb. The Americans can do that with conventional weapons such as MOPs and they are the only nation that can deliver them. The IAF has no plane that can carry a 15 tonne bomb so they would have to use nukes. Which although it would set the pigeons at the UN a’flutter it would be not half as bad as it appears at first thought. They have low-yield weapons tailor made for the task and the targets are mostly out of the urban areas. On the other hand, they could use bombs on the isolated sites, deep under mountains, with small yield but very dirty bombs that will leave those sites glowing for the next ten thousand years. Ten or twenty miniature Chernobyls dotted around the country needn’t be so bad.

Sure Soddy Barbaria might allowed IAF strikes to pass over their air space to attack Iran, but would they allow them to return? Or would they light up the IAF aircraft on the return leg of the strike with everything they had?

Unthinkable. Saudi Arabia couldn’t do that to the US’s greatest ally.
