Your contribution supports independent journalism

Please take a moment to consider this. Now, more than ever, people are reading Geller Report for news they won't get anywhere else. But advertising revenues have all but disappeared. I have recordings of Callas; she was brilliant. There are others who were extremely talented but she, to me, possessed something extraordinarily greater than most.

Opera used to be popular in the US. The radio was always on when The Voice of Firestone was the weekly feature. I recall watching that show on television as well. Opera stars were celebrities. And, it wasn’t simply exotic beauties such as Maria Callas. Remember Bubbles Sills?

Not opera, but GREAT music … I still break out some old vinyl of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau singing Schubert lieder. I only have a few of his albums, and one of them was him conducting an orchestra as opposed to singing. I think most of them were recorded in the late sixties (those that I have).
Different times.

Try asking any millennial about the opera, let alone about someone like Maria Callas. They’ll look at you like you’re crazy.

I like operas even though I can’t understand a word at what is being said, just like Rock-N-Roll. I guess opera is the rock-n-roll for adults.

We listen to it because of the beauty of the rhythm, I suppose.

LOL. Good comment. It’s TRUE btw. Some of my favorite Rock songs from my youth I never knew the words too. Still don’t actually.

That beautiful cultured woman singing that causes stones to weep.

If you seek the reason why our civilisation is worth the effort to save – just listen.
