Packages suspected to contain ricin sent to the Pentagon
At least two packages addressed to the Pentagon have been flagged at their mail facility, a spokesperson says.
Two people were taken to the hospital after being exposed to a “white powdery substance” at Sen. Ted Cruz’s office in Houston, Texas, just minutes after it was announced on Tuesday a pair of packages suspected of containing a deadly poison had been sent to the Pentagon, officials said.
A Pentagon spokesman confrimed to Fox News that two packages addressed to U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis and the Navy’s top officer, Admiral John Richardson, are suspected of containing ricin.
The packages never made their way into the Pentagon, but were flagged in a mail delivery building next door on Monday, the spokesman said. Initial tests were positive for ricin, a posion made from castor beans, but the FBI is now currently doing analysis to make final determinations.
“On Monday, the Pentagon Force Protection Agency detected a suspicious substance during mail screening at the Pentagon’s remote screening facility,” Col. Rob Manning said in a statement to Fox News. “All USPS mail received at the Pentagon mail screening facility yesterday is currently under quarantine and poses no threat to Pentagon personnel.”
The disclosure about the incident at the Pentagon came as authorities said two people were taken to the hospital after apparently being exposed to a white powdery substance at Senator Ted Cruz’s office in Houston. The Houston Fire Department said on Twitter that the entire 9th floor of the Phoenix Tower has been evacuated.

Ricin is a poison that can take several different forms, but as a purified powder it can be deadly. It’s also one of the easiest poisons to manufacture.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, if it is made into a partially purified material or refined, ricin can be used as a weapon capable of causing death under certain circumstances.
The CDC notes that it would take “a deliberate act to make ricin and use it to poison people.”
“Unintentional exposure to ricin is highly unlikely, except through the ingestion of castor beans,” the CDC says.

Notable Ricin poisonings include the deadly poisoning of Georgi Markov, a Bulgarian writer and journalist who was living in London in 1978. Markov died after he was attacked by a man with an umbrella that had been rigged to inject a poison ricin pellet under Markov’s skin.
“Ricin poisoning is not contagious,” the CDC says. “Ricin-associated illness cannot be spread from person to person through casual contact. However, if you come into contact with someone who has ricin on their body or clothes, you could become exposed to it.”
In June, a Wisconsin mom was accused of spreading ISIS propaganda online — including directing one person how to make ricin and how to deploy it at a government facility or water reservoir. That same month, an Islamic extremist ricin attack planned for Germany was foiled.

Any sentiment that this is part of the left wing ultra-liberal Democratic Parties attempt to regain control of congress, from my perspective, would be right on. This country is going thru a period of divisiveness that I sincerely believe is directly related to the Democratic Parties loss of the 2016 Presidency. To me it seems obvious that those liberals have set out to destroy anyone who stand in their way, and that includes Trump, Kavanaugh, and everyone who is in any way related to the Republican agenda. Now the crazies amongst them are going for murder to make their point. It is an extremely sad state of affairs. I have lost any and all respect I once might have had for those of the Democratic Party. I do hope that their conduct will spur all of us reasonable and right thinking people to get out the vote and reject these socialist who have no idea how wrong they are in their promotion of the foolishness that is todays Democratic Party.
