Iranian Muslim living in Canada gets 42 months prison for illegally exporting military tech to Iran

14

He is, according to the Vancouver Sun, a “Canadian national,” and then in the second paragraph, simply a “Canadian.” Yet he has been “working with co-conspirators in Iran, Turkey and Portugal to illegally export restricted tech products and military supplies to Iran’s department of defense,” and has been doing so since “as far back as 2011.” So in what sense has Ghobad Ghasempour ever really been a Canadian? It is clear from this case that he was using his Canadian citizenship simply as a tool while he worked to aid the Islamic Republic of Iran. But such considerations never enter the minds of immigration officials; they would be “islamophobic.”

“Canadian man sentenced to 42 months in prison for illegally exporting military tech to Iran,” by Stephanie Ip, Vancouver Sun, August 22, 2018 (thanks to Amil Imani):

A Canadian national has been sentenced in the United States to three-and-a-half years in prison for conspiracy to export military goods to Iran.

Ghobad Ghasempour, a 38-year-old Canadian, was arrested March 2017 when he left B.C. through the Peace Arch crossing at Blaine, Wash.

A Homeland Security Investigations probe found that Ghasempour had been using front companies in China and working with co-conspirators in Iran, Turkey and Portugal to illegally export restricted tech products and military supplies to Iran’s department of defense.

Further investigation found that Ghasempour and his co-conspirators had been exporting or attempting to export items to Iran as far back as 2011 by falsifying shipping documents and lying to U.S. manufacturers by claiming the items were bound for customers in Turkey and Portugal. The Iranian customers paid the front companies run by Ghasempour and an associate….

During the sentencing a judge noted that Ghasempour was motivated by greed and money and that his exports were intended for “the Department of Defense for Iran – the very group that would be the most harmful to the United States.”

A great job by the authorities, but further investigation is required. First China needs to be more cooperative in shutting down such “front “ companies. Secondly more investigation has to be done on tech companies with offshore software development in India (second largest Muslim population at 180 million and growing) to see if that tech is being illegally exported, since India also has very good trade relations with Iran.

I doubt China would cooperate, they also have quite a few spies in the U.S. and Canada.

Wow. Such treason was once met by firing squad. I guess Canada’s leaders don’t think their country is worth preserving any longer.
