Belgium Bans Halal Slaughter, But Muslims in Capital Brussels Are Exempt
While Flanders and Wallonia are set to ban unstunned Islamic ritual slaughter in 2019, the practice will remain legal in the Belgian capital of Brussels.

Story continues below advertisementOne of Islam’s most holy days, the Eid al-Adha festival, begins this week as Muslims around the globe engage in the ritual sacrifice of various animals including cows, sheep and goats.
As of next year, Belgium is banning the practice, which involves slitting the throat of an animal and letting it bleed to death, in Flanders and Wallonia, insisting the animal must be electrically stunned beforehand. To the outrage of animal rights campaigners, the Belgian capital Brussels has refused to ban slaughter without stunning RTL reports.
Global Action in the Interest of Animals (GAIA), a Belgian-based animal rights group, has slammed Brussels for not joining the country’s other two regions on the issue.
President of GAIA Michel Vandenbosch commented on the matter saying, “Before the end of the legislature, the Brussels government must follow the example of Wallonia and Flanders, and definitely put an end to the slaughter without stunning of sheep and cattle everywhere in Brussels.

Brussels, which has a large Muslim population, has become known for areas in the city such as the heavily migrant populated district of Molenbeek which became infamous due to the number of radical Islamic extremists who have originated there. Last year it was revealed that 51 non-profit groups operating in Molenbeek had direct links to radical Islamic terrorism.
The district was also the place that 2015 Paris attacker Salah Abdeslam hid for months before a raid by Belgian police took him into custody.
While in Flanders three temporary slaughterhouses have been established for Eid al-Adha, the Secretary of State for Animal Welfare, Bianca Debaets claims that no requests have been made in Brussels this year.

Muslims tattooed their victim with a series of tattoos including a swastika on her right hand in addition to raping her and torturing her for over a month. The Muslim gang reportedly burned the victim with cigarettes and inked insults and swastikas onto her skin with a homemade device.

In india few years back PETA did go to muslim areas to “educate” muslims to give up this slaughter .
They were soon surrounded by muslim mob that threatened to trash them up if they don’t leave immediately.

I find this distressing for entirely another reason. They will be banning kosher slaughter next — it’s almost identical. The nanny state is more coddling of so called “animal rights” in a far-from-clear-cut which-is-more-humane situation than of citizens’ right to freely practice their religion, in matters which should be none of the state’s damn business.
The Jews and the Muslims should be ALLIES in opposing this bleeding-heart nonsense.

Well, Dave, I’m just glad I don’t live in a country run by people who share your views. The “law of the land” in the USA is the Constitution, and it protects the freedom of religious expression against undue government control. That means, even when the state passes a rational law of general application, they have to make an exception — an “accommodation” as it’s called — to allow for the sincere practitioner of a religion to do his thing, if that can be done without endangering the whole statutory scheme. And it goes without saying that the state may not pass laws targeting a religious practice specifically.
Belgium, apparently, lacks those protections for minority religions. (The majority religion, of course, doesn’t need such protections, since its members would simply vote out of office any government that tried to infringe THEIR religion). Don’t think YOUR religion needs protecting? There’s no such thing as a permanent majority, sir. Whatever oddball practice is endemic to YOUR religion, the state will be coming after YOU next, to ban it.

Right is right Michael and in the 21st century there’s no need to make animals suffer because of archaic practices that are so wrong. If we can’t reform our scripture for the better then we are as bad as the intransigent muslims and their stupidly brutal koran.
We must go beyond the past and live in the present.
If I was to kill an animal for food I would do it quickly and cleanly with the animal knowing no suffering.

Dave, that’s exactly what kosher slaughter is DESIGNED to achieve: “do it quickly and cleanly with the animal knowing no suffering.” Who is to say that shooting a bolt into a cow’s brain is a more humane way to end its conscoius life, before draining its blood? I meant that literally – WHO is to decide? The question is not a debate over what the best method is — it’s a debate over WHO GETS TO DECIDE. When it’s a matter of religious obligation, AND the religious act does not CLEARLY violate a valid secular purpose — the state should step aside and allow the religious practice to be carried out in accord with the religious requirements. But on the substantive issue as well, have you considered that the “experts” who designed the “modern” system of animal slaughter may be WRONG? Look at all the problems with the so called “humane” method of capital punishment using a 3-part “cocktail” lethal injection. How is this better than a quick hanging, or beheading with a guillotine? Or a gunshot to the back of the head? LET THE CLERICS DECIDE what the most humane way is for their followers to carry out their religious commandments.

And butchering overseen by a rabbi is much more sanitary in a shop than this open pit. Both religions have methods to process meat, I’d say the Jewish religion is more humane in its attitude and workings. Sure Abraham was tested to put his son on a pyre for sacrifice until an Angel stayed his hand and he killed a ram caught in the scrub instead for his offering. Must have been some scrub bush to hold one of those big animals…ever see them knock horns? To slice a throat of a big animal as shown in the photo, just to watch it suffer as it bleeds out shows the true character of the Islam religion.
