60 institutions are currently considering suing the SPLC. I would have sued long ago for defamation, but actually had no recourse. Maajid Nawaz lives in Britain. British law is different — they have no First Amendment and their libel law is very loose. Legally, the Nawaz settlement is not useful, because it is based on UK law, which has no actual malice standard required by the First Amendment when someone defames a public figure. Nonetheless, I hope some effective way is discovered in the U.S. to sue this hate and smear machine for all it’s worth. Their destruction of decent people whose crime is only that they dissent from the left’s agenda has gone on long enough.

On Wednesday, no fewer than 47 nonprofit leaders maligned by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) — many if not most of whom are considering a lawsuit against the organization — warned a vast array of executives and leaders that if they parrot the SPLC’s damaging “hate group” labels, they would be “complicit” in “defamation.”
“Editors, CEOs, shareholders and consumers alike are on notice: anyone relying upon and repeating its misrepresentations is complicit in the SPLC’s harmful defamation of large numbers of American citizens who, like the undersigned, have been vilified simply for working to protect our country and freedoms,” the signatories wrote.
Story continues below advertisementThe letter followed news — broken at PJ Media — that no fewer than 60 organizations are considering suing the SPLC following a groundbreaking settlement in which the organization formally apologized to a Muslim reformer, Maajid Nawaz, for branding him an “anti-Muslim extremist.”
In 2016, the SPLC published its “Field Guide to Anti-Muslim Extremists,” listing Muslim reformer Maajid Nawaz, a practicing Muslim, as one such extremist. The left-wing group listed various and changing reasons for including him, even at one point mentioning that he had gone to a strip club for his bachelor party. On Monday, the SPLC apologized and paid $3.375 million to settle a lawsuit Nawaz had filed.
“We haven’t filed anything against the SPLC, but I think a number of organizations have been considering filing lawsuits against the SPLC because they have been doing to a lot of organizations exactly what they did to Maajid Nawaz,” Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, told PJ Media on Tuesday.
Representatives of the Family Research Council (FRC), the Ruth Institute, and Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) told PJ Media they were considering “legal options.”
Liberty Counsel filed a lawsuit against the charity navigation organization GuideStar for defamation after GuideStar adopted the SPLC’s “hate group” list. That lawsuit is ongoing.
Staver further told PJ Media, “There are probably about 60 organizations that we’re talking to — there’s at least 60.”
The letter published Wednesday featured roughly the same list of groups that denounced the SPLC’s “hate list” in an open letter to the media last year. The SPLC has admitted that its “hate group” list is based on “opinion.”
Worse, in 2012, a terrorist broke into the Family Research Council (FRC) with a semi-automatic pistol, aiming to kill everyone in the building. In later FBI testimony, he admitted to targeting FRC because it was on the SPLC’s “hate map,” and that he intended to shoot up other organizations once he finished there.
The letter’s legal threat should be abundantly clear. Ken Cuccinelli, former attorney general of Virginia, signed the letter, as did PJ Media’s J. Christian Adams, president of the Public Interest Legal Foundation. Michael P. Farris, president, CEO, and general counsel at Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), represents an organization that has won eight Supreme Court cases in the past seven years.

Especially if editors and publisher didn’t bother to double-check SPLC claims, could be evidence of reckless disregard for truth…establishing malice might be a little bit harder, but discovery might show what happened…

Hungary’s Orban -where Soros holds a dual citizenship with the USA -has so vigorously investigated Soros’ NGOs there…they announced a month ago that they are packing up their offices there and will be setting up shop in another country…..I just pray it isn’t allowed in America…..

They have been proven to be soliciting money from organizations for the purpose of exposing right wing organizations when in fact they have been stuffing their own pockets ! Nawaz is a Muslim, so he was able to win a lawsuit against other Muslims. I’d like to see a non-Muslim get a judgment (and it not being reversed) against Muslims.
That would be required for me to believe our courts are not enforcing Sharia against us.

Does anyone else other than me remember that Obama elevated the power of the SPLC by putting them on his payroll, giving them an office in D.C. to “point out” his definition of “hate groups”? In his second term….
Does anyone else other than me remember that at the same time that was occurring he also brought in foreign UN Police to also go after “hate groups” in the USA? I was freaking out that foreign “police” were being brought in to police Americans!!!!…like the gestapo of Germany.
Does anyone else other than me remember the interview with candidate Obama on his first run….where he told the interviewer that he believed a President had the “right” to form his own “police force”? Private and answerable only to him?!
Based on the Horowitz report it sounds to me like he and his minions managed to form his own “police force” within the FBI, DOJ, and Clapper/Brennan crowd…..

SPLC is an organization that is DEDICATED solely to the destruction of the USA as we know it.

aebe,have you actually tried SBGO ? or are you another one talking out your aZZ about something you don’t know anything about ? aebe,if you knew what SBGO was about,you would understand that it is SUPPOSED to erode “Confidence” as you put it……The “Confidence” that islamoterrs have that they WILL get their 72 “virgins” for dying while murdering the innocent and unaware…while I appreciate your “expert” opinion on my counter-terrorist product/weapon,my over 50 years shooting experience,which includes winning several SASS black powder shoots [pistol] besides being an EXPERT qualified Marine and working in a Class III shop has been more than adequate to enable me to arrive at my own,well researched conclusions about WHAT I use in SBGO and HOW I advertise it.,most especially to islamoterrorists.
