Sweden’s largest football tournament bans ‘forbidden pork’ from the menu to please Muslims

Story continues below advertisementFor the participants of Sweden’s Gothia Cup there will be no pork on the menu. The organisers have chosen to customise their menu according to Islam’s order, and completely removed the forbidden meat, Fria Tider reports.
“Because we have many Muslims coming to the tournament we have chosen not to serve pork, so you do not need to report this as special food or an allergy,” the organisers wrote in an update on their website at the end of last year. Pork is forbidden in Islam and is called “Haram”.
For the organisers, There’s nothing strange about its religiously adapted menu. When a journalist from the newspaper, Nyheter Idag, asked the tournament leader, Lena Rönnefors, why not just have an option for those who do not want to eat pork, she answered:
“What is the question? What are you wondering about? We have no complaints on the menu, so it’s great.”
The Gothia Cup, or World Cup, is one of the world’s largest football cups for young people between 11-19 years old. The tournament, organised in the Gothenburg area in July each year, brings together approximately 37,000 participants from all over the world.

Do you think the US Armed Forces import non-Muslim contract cooks for their dining facilities in the Islamic World? They do NOT. There are no prohibitions in preparing, handling or proximity with pork. Only with eating it. Flexibility rises when your rice bowl is at stake.

The two Muslim women who live in my neighborhood give me the stink eye when I walk my dog on their sidewalk. I worry they will leave poison in grass to kill my dog. I walk out of the way to avoid them. This is another example of Muslims getting their way by using intimidation.

Although I don’t support Moslems, you shouldn’t eat pork. Even Yahusha sent the demons into the pigs and sent them running down a hill into the water. Pork is one of the worst animals you could eat on this planet.

She did not understand the question. Why not be able to have the option of not eating pork. There are many other things that can be offered. There were no complaints about the menu because people were afraid of having their heads chopped off or their throats slit. Theses barbarians must be deported.

I am of mixed mind, and would need to know more about this tournament, which the article says is for KIDS. Kids do not always make the wisest choices on menus, and it’s not clear whether this refers to food furnished by the tournament to the student-athletes who are competing (and presumably living in dorms, together) or to concession stands serving spectators.
I have no problem with tournament organizers who want to make life easier for everybody by planning a SINGLE menu to feed the kids that is agreeable to everybody participating. I would expect te same thing of someone planning any youth event — as I have been a youth event planner, myself. As a kosher Jew, I have appreciated that effort when community events occur that strive to be inclusive of Jews who keep kosher, as well. It’s not just that Islam “demands” other people follow their law; it’s that an inclusive community ought not force those with special dietary needs to self-exclude themselves from participation.
But if this refers to banning pork from the concession stands for spectators, that goes too far. Those with money to buy food can go to whatever food stand they want, or avoid whatever one they don’t want. I’m sure some entrepreneur will be happy to erect a Halal meat sandwich stand and may even draw some non-Muslim customers. The more variety the merrier, I say. When I go to a ballgame in the USA, I head for the certified kosher hot dog stand, but I have no problem with the pork BBQ and fried-shrimp concessions also found at the ballpark.

Pamela is likewise a Jew. I think that it is a bit ironic, because the Arabs likely “borrowed” the concept of avoiding pork from the Arabian Jews before their communities were decimated.

Why can’t they simply choose to order something other than pork? If the people in charge of cooking everything can guarantee that the pork, and its juices, won’t come into contact with anything else, no problem. It’s quite simple, and many kitchens do things like that all the time.

Here’s an idea! How about you serve pork to those who ask for it. Those who don’t want pork, for whatever the reason, are free to choose from the other items on the menu. That way Swedes who are so inclined, can get their noses out of the asses of their Muslim handlers and get a whiff of that fresh air called freedom and self respect.
