ABC’s ‘Roseanne’ Spinoff Officially a Go — Without Roseanne Barr

71

I am not surprised at those sniveling cowards at ABC, but the cast — people who Roseanne made famous — have shown in this what they really are. Joy Reid and all the other left-wing lowlifes say the most vile things, destroy people’s lives, and get the brass ring. Keith Olbermann, the hysterical leftist who has called President Trump a Nazi and a white supremacist, just got hired by ESPN. But if you say something that the left considers offensive and you’re not a leftist, you’ll lose everything. The Democrats are swiftly transforming this once-free nation into a vicious totalitarian state governed by relentless and unforgiving thought police.

“ABC’s ‘Roseanne’ Spinoff Officially a Go — Without Roseanne Barr,” by Lesley Goldberg, The Hollywood Reporter, June 21, 2018:

After canceling the comedy following star Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet, the Disney-owned network has found a way to move forward with the original cast, creators and likely crew as ‘The Conners.’

Weeks after its stunning decision to cancel Roseanne, ABC is officially moving forward with a spinoff of TV’s current No. 1 series — without controversial star Roseanne Barr.

Story continues below advertisement

Following aggressive talks with exec producer Tom Werner, the Disney-owned broadcaster has handed out a 10-episode, straight-to-series order for Roseanne spinoff The Conners (working title). The new take, which will also be a multicamera comedy and premiere in the fall, will follow the Conner family who, after a sudden turn of events, are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before.

ABC stressed in its announcement Thursday that former star Barr will have no financial or creative involvement in the new series. Werner and Barr reached an agreement that will allow Werner Entertainment to produce the spinoff for ABC without Barr’s further creative or financial participation. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Barr will retain all rights to her Roseanne Conner character and any future spinoffs beyond The Conners or any future reboots of the original.

“I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from Roseanne. I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved,” Barr said in a statement. Added Werner: “We are grateful to have reached this agreement to keep our team working as we continue to explore stories of the Conner family.”

Roseanne stars John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman will star in the spinoff. Additional castmembers and a premiere date will be announced at a later date. “We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience,” Goodman, Metcalf, Gilbert, Goranson and Fishman said in a joint statement. “We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”

ABC says the new take will explore issues with parenthood, dating an unexpected pregnancy, financial pressures, aging and in-laws in working-class America. The series will take over Roseanne‘s Tuesdays at 8 p.m. time slot. The Conners hails from the creative team behind what was to be the 11th season of Roseanne, including showrunner Bruce Helford, Gilbert, Dave Caplan, Bruce Rasmussen and Tony Hernandez. The series hails from Werner and Werner Entertainment.

“The Conners’ stories demonstrate that families can always find common ground through conversation, laughter and love. The spinoff will continue to portray contemporary issues that are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago,” ABC said in a statement.

Despite multiple reports that the network was open to a new take on Roseanne, the decision to move forward with a new version of the series should still be seen as a surprise, given the considerable obstacles that had to be overcome in order to move forward.

A major point of contention was to find a way to reinvent Roseanne that would not financially benefit Barr, which was said to be a top demand from ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey and Werner. The series was created by Matt Williams (the show’s first showrunner, who departed in season one after clashing with the actress) and is based upon a character (yes, singular) created by Barr….

I have this uncanny feeling that we’ll see much lower ratings in the show’s future. I don’t know precisely why, but …

They should just call it “darlene and her horrible kids” because you know that BS agenda she’s pushing with her mentally ill son will be saturated throughout the show. I hate it for John Goodman, I actually love that guy, but I hope this show flops hard.

I am sure you’re ‘hoping it flops hard’ won’t be necessary.

I watched a few episodes of Roseanne a long time ago. I found that I couldn’t stand the darlene character… she would literally sour my stomach so badly I’d actually start vomiting. I don’t usually react that way, even to the worst of people, actors|actresses or their characters… there’s just something about the combination of the character|actress that sickens me.

Some inquiry among people I knew showed that, though no one else reacted as strongly as me, very few people could stand her.

They watched b|c of the Roseanne character!

It will remain that way.

I liked Darlene when she was a funny kid. Then, when she hit around sixteen, she got real stupid, real fast. They made it worse by listening to her to bring David in and her character kept going down into the sewer.

Funny thing about that, though. When they brought in Johnny as David, it was sara who had a big crush on him and wanted him in, or so I’ve read. I think hollyweird ruined another person. I mean, not to mention how badly she’s aged. Especially compared to Lecy, who looks fabulous. (I don’t know Lecy’s views, she seems to stay out of mischief). I really hate this for John Goodman, I love him.

I do happen to like the humor in his shows and now watch both shows.

Anyhow since the show was developed by Roseanne, she will be paid off and so will have profited handily, even through it all

Roseanne was correct….I once took one Ambien and didn’t remember the next 24 hours….threw the rest of them away. There have been countless accounts of how Ambien affects people.
Take someone like Roseanne….who has a history of speaking out – sometimes not advisably- and her taking an Ambien, looking at the news, and you get her Jarrett comment….. I’ve heard Maher, Samantha Bee, and so many others say worse and more violent things towards the President and his family….you don’t see them jerked off the air.

I will quote Voltaire here: “To know who RULES you, find out who you are not allowed to criticize.”

Roseanne can and should have a new show, MIA kids, first DJ, maybe he can act, and perhaps John and Laurie will desert ABC. And Becky who had such a promising future can be played by Sarah C.

A desperate attempt to recoup something. The hope is that the show format operates independent of Roseanne.

This is a fairly low risk investment. Cost is now low because Star is gone. Controversy will encourage some viewership in the beginning. ABC has nothing else to fill the slot for a season so take a shot that it might be a winner. Leftists may watch just to keep it going in the ratings.

Yeah, I hope they have a sympathetic but topical send off of Rosanne’s character like maybe she is killed in one of those mass shooting we have every other month, or overdoses on Fentanyl or Oxycontin to raise awareness of the drug problem. Or maybe she just goes to jail for burning down a mosque.

Those ‘nice liberal people’. With one slip up they will crush you under their shiny black leather Gestapo jackboots like a cockroach. The destruction is so complete it is almost Biblical. The first such media victim was Paula Deen which was SURREAL. Go back and try to figure out exactly what Paula Deen DID – it is bizarre. As for Roseanne, when she went slobbering all over the despicable George Soros and Valerie Jarrett hoping for a few crumbs of forgiveness (not forthcoming) I lost any respect for her.

Roseanne without Roseanne should be a hoot.
Actors are vain people. Most of the cast are actors, rather than comedians. They are good actors, so they can pull it off, but on their own, they are not that funny. That is where Roseanne makes the difference. And, there are people who drink milk, and others who drink soy milk only. They are not the same.

Rozanne should have made a much stronger point about her NOT knowing Valerie Jarrett was non white and by that showing:

a) She is not an anti black / minority racist, of course, most in the left wouldn’t be convinced, but the level of band wagoning outrage, might have been somewhat mitigated

b) The sheer blatant hypocrisy of white people being fair game for rampant, vile personal defaming / mocking attacks

I can only hope that the new show will tank hard

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings…..but Jarret is Iranian and white. Hebrews are white.
There are only three races on the planet…White, Black, and Asian…..believe it or not, but Muslims are white….as are Hispanics and many other “cultures” we call this “race” or that “race”.
Native Americans are white…..that’s why when people think they can get a blood test to prove they are Native American it never works out. They prove it by showing lineage on the Indian Rolls….. that’s why Fauxahontas (Warren) refuses to take a blood test…she’s been told it won’t help her prove anything….this is according to people at Ancestry.

The three races have mixed over millennials and the regions they have lived and the cultures they have developed them to look different, but their blood isn’t.

But what Roseanne said about Jarrett was more rhetorical and political….and given the evil of Jarrett (who is related to Muslim Brotherhood family leaders) I thought what Roseanne said was funny and ironic. But, that’s just me.

I thought I heard the “progressive” storm troopers claim she was African American…

South and central American Latinos that originate from indigenous south American Indians mixed (to varying degrees) with Europeans (Spanish / Portuguese / German / Dutch etc), are refereed to as “brown”

American (north / central / south) Indians, are not a separate race?

Also Australian Aborigines and Polynesians could be categorized as a separate race if I am not mistaken

In any case, Rosanne is right (VJ is Pure evil and looks like the female character from POTA) but for her own good (given the hysterical panic / total hypocrisy of the MSM), she shouldn’t have written that tweet as she did

I’m only telling you what the top DNA and anthropologists tell us. “Brown” skin -other than the Black race- is not associated with DNA….it’s usually because of their environment and diet….

….and I’m sure that had Roseanne not taken Ambien- which can inhibit social filters – she would have found another way to insult the evil Jarrett….but way too much was made of it by the Left….they say far, far, far worse…..Griffen with a severed head of Trump comes to mind….and latest threats against President Trump’s son and nasty comments about the First Lady and their little granddaughter.
In all my years I have never heard such vile remarks about a First Lady of America….

Leftists are ‘lowlifes’ … but that’s almost an insult to lowlifes.

I’ve got no love for Rosanne, but the Left’s Double Standards and ‘hypocrisy’ is incredibly annoying – and evil – and violent.

Hypocrisy is in quotes – b/c it’s not hypocritical for them to live one way and destroy others for doing the same. According to their standards, hating people who behave like they do is entirely justified. Besides …

They still hate America for the crimes of the Demokkkratic party, and they hate the West – largely – for the crimes of Leftists – all while never attributing the blame for the crimes to the correct ideology, political side, or philosophers.

Ultimately this `war` between left and right will come down to those prepared to fight for what they believe in. Left wing wets who promote autocratic governance or the the right wing who are fighting for democracy with its inherent rights that facilitate a basic human right; THE PEOPLE NOT AUTOCRATS DECIDE OUR FUTURES.
Sadly history portrays the right as being fascists. Not any more!

You’re right about majority rule. In a democracy, virtually EVERYONE is allowed to vote. This results in an accurate reflection of the majorities preferences for political governance. Many democratic countries allow an unlimited number of political organisations to stand for election giving the electorate multiple choices for potential future governance.
No democracy means totalitarian rule where unelected individuals make decisions on behalf of everyone else.
Most countries have separated religion from politics allowing normal religious freedoms without compromising political governance. This applies in both secular and non secular countries.
One religion refuses to accept the separation of religion and politics. This religion believes all countries should be governed by the law of the religion and all citizens regardless of personal beliefs have to accept its religious governance. Islam.

This show will just become another follow-the-leader, paint-by-number, knee-jerk liberal mediocrity. People liked watching because “Roseanne” portrayed a REAL family. Folks could relate. Like it not there are real Roseannes on every corner. The show portrays an under-represented portion of America, especially in media. The vast irony of this period of Great Censorship, i.e., Political Correctness, is not just that it’s spooky, but that it is actually creating more racism instead of preventing it. Folks are really getting mad. For some odd, uneasy reason I keep thinking of part of that old quote: “All we have done is awaken a sleeping giant and filled him with resolve.”
