New York Times’ Israel Coverage ‘Literally Worse Than Al Jazeera’

17

The New York Times, already slammed for its liberal-leaning reporting, can now take home a new label for its newspaper shelves — that of being about the worst outlet in the world when it comes to covering Israel.

“How bad is The New York Times’ coverage of Israel?” asked Ira Stoll, in the Algemeiner. “It’s literally worse than Al Jazeera.”

Khan al-Ahmar village

That’s pretty bad. Take a look at how the Times treated a story of Khan al-Ahmar village.

More from Stoll, in the Algemeiner:

In the case of at least one story (actually, that now makes it at least two stories, if you count this one I wrote about last year), it’s literally worse than Al Jazeera.

A Bedouin village called Khan al-Ahmar was the subject of articles in The New York Times and on AlJazeera.com, the website of the satellite network geared to an Arab audience and controlled by the al-Thani family that rules the Persian Gulf emirate of Qatar. The comparison is illuminating.

The Al Jazeera article reports that the community numbers 180 individuals. The Times article includes no count of the population of the village. The Times does however, include a photo cutline reporting that “For decades, Israel has wanted to clear a large section of the West Bank of several thousand Bedouins to make room for Jewish settlements.” The Times article also uses similar language in its third paragraph: “For decades, Israel has wanted to clear a large section of the West Bank of several thousand Bedouins.” That Times language gives readers the false and inaccurate impression that the population of this village is much larger than it actually is.

The Times article mentions that of three Israeli judges who ruled on the matter, “two of them” were “current or former settlers.” The Al Jazeera article didn’t get into the question of where the judges used to live. It thus avoided the odd combination of detail and imprecision that characterizes the Times’ formulation. Was the “former settler” among the judges someone who lived briefly in a settlement decades ago and has since renounced the settlement project? Were two of them former settlers, or two of them current settlers, or was one a former settler and one a current settler? And does the Times have any evidence that that former settler status, rather than the law and the facts of the case, is what influenced the judgment?

I can see both sides of the case for moving the Bedouin village or for leaving it in place. The New York Times, for comparison’s sake, has had no problem kicking legal homeowners and businesses out of the way to support private construction projects in Connecticut and in New York City, including for its own headquarters tower.

No matter one’s view of the underlying merits of the case, though, it shouldn’t be too much to ask for the Times to do better than Al Jazeera when it comes to accurately reporting on the number of people involved and refraining from casting personal aspersions on the Israeli judges.

The New York Times, a print news provider/online that is past its expiry date. This bigoted rag which rivals Der Stürmer, now Al Jazeera and others disseminating anti-Semitic/Israel propaganda. It is, after all, not a new policy within the inner-sanctum of this perfidious, Jew-Hating so-called journalistic endeavor. The NYT has always and remain an apologist for terror and totalitarianism. Decades ago, it lionized the tyrannical Lenin, Stalin, and others whose sole intent was the eradication of capitalism, democracy. The NYT, not unlike, the Democrats, Progressives are agents of Islam and hellbent on the US becoming an autocracy, if not an Islamic theocracy.

Today, this leftist elitist paper is no more than tabloid journalism feeding its progressivist readers that which satiates their wanton hatred of Jews and The State of Israel while spewing pro-Palestinian, Hamas, Hezbollah disinformation, known as fake-news.

Yes, Soros, indeed keeps on propping it up. How Soros remains a free man, evading prosecution throughout the so-called democracies is beyond comprehension. A tad rhetorical, as he is enabled by the inner-sanctums of governments infested with those equally corrupt and seditious. The NYT is no more or less a measure or three below the checkout tabloids.

I agree that Soros is a scumbag, but Is he actually propping the NYT up? I don’t know which is why I’m asking you. I understand that there is a tendency to want to put a face to ideologies we don’t like, but I think we need to incorporate accuracy and exercise discretion when it comes to automatically using “Soros” as a catchall term for everything we don’t like.

I’m not sure either, caliroxanne. Felix is usually accurate. I don’t disagree but Soros has his fingers in a myriad of pies, cow’s and otherwise; he likely has them in the MSM of which the NYT is part. Hopefully, Felix will reply.

If there is an NYT laying around a coffee house that I frequent, might read it. I certainly will not buy it. Same with the LA Times.

It used to be the conservatives read the WSJ and the liberals read the NYT on the train up to NY every morning. Too bad we didn’t know in those days, both were corrupt in different ways.

A leftist publication eh? Perhaps we should follow the advice of Abby Hoffman and steal this paper (Steal This Book published 1970) at every opportunity. Bird cages need lining and my BBQ charcoal chimney uses newspaper to ignite the briquettes…

Trump was conned by Abbas initially but when he found out the truth boy was he mad as hell at the jihadi http://bit.ly/2rOmfyJ

That’s when he decided enough is enough and that inspite of huge opposition led to shifting of Embassy to Jerusalem and No more funding to the jihadis.

The NYT’s has been, for quite some time anti Israel. For example;

On February 22, 1982, John Kifner, NYT’s correspondent in Beirut wrote;

To work here as a journalist, is to carry fear with you as faithfully as your notebook.
It is the constant knowledge that there is nothing you can do to protect yourself and that nothing has ever happened to any assassin. In this atmosphere, a journalist must often weigh when, how, and sometimes even whether, to record a story…

In February 1982, Zeev Chafetz, then director of Israel’s Government Press Office, charged that substantial segments of the western news media follow a double standard in reporting and commentary on the Arab- Israeli conflict because they fear and respect Arab terror, but take for granted and abuse the freedom allowed them in Israels open society. He explicitly charged that terror prevented critical reporting on the PLO and Syria…

And if it were possible, this is more true today than yesterday, and unfortunately, too many readily digest this leftist anti Israel garbage, believing it to be true. Why? Well heck…no brainer there, I read it/heard it in/on the news…right?
So where are the brave journalists today? Or are they all cowards?
