Student Government at Berkeley Considers Revoking Funding for College Republicans

34

The student government at University of California, Berkeley suggested stripping the campus College Republicans of their funding and moving it instead to the Black Student Union.

A Berkele Student Senator suggested the idea via amendment to the group’s proposed budget allocations.

It’s not unusual for the campus Republicans to feel threatened. This, from back in 2016:

The senator, Rizza Estacio, said her logic is that the Republicans have broken a lot of rules, particularly free speech-related rules.

Berkeley Republicans speak out about the harassment they face for their political views.

Legal Insurrection has more:

The student who suggested this wants the funds reallocated to the black student union. The reasoning is bogus.

Campus Reform reports:

Student gov threatens to give CR funds to Black Student Union

A University of California, Berkeley Student Senator proposed that all student government funding for the Berkeley College Republicans be reallocated to the Black Student Union.

According to The Daily Californian, Senator Rizza Estacio made an amendment to the proposed budget allocations to student organizations and university groups which would eliminate the $1,000 funding for the BCR and add it to the budget for the BSU.

Estacio said that her reasoning for the reallocation is because the BCRs “have violated a lot of, like, lead center rules during like free speech week,” adding that because of this, the organization does not deserve funding from the ASUC.

The proposal was met with murmurs of agreement from across the room, but some senators were concerned with the possible legal obstacles to the amendment.

“I believe there are genuine concerns about the legal implications of taking away funding from BCR,” cautioned Senator Taehan Lee.

This concern was echoed by Matthew Lewis, ASUC housing commissioner, who stated that while he disagrees with the College Republicans, he fears the reallocation would result in a lawsuit.

“Before I speak I just want to acknowledge that people have feelings about wanting to defund BCR are very valid; they are a terrible organization,” said Lewis. “What will happen inevitably in court is not only will the courts order be for the ASUC to fund BCR, they’ll probably also order the ASUC to fund BCR at a higher amount, which would mean cuts to other student groups who actually deserve the money.”

I’m fine with that. Eliminate all school funding for student extracurricular activities. Let them self fund. That levels the playing field and eliminates libturd bias.

Who knew there were so many Homophobic, Racist , hypocritical, anti-Semitic .. Xenophobes at Berkeley.

More than 100 UC Berkeley faculty members signed a petition to prevent Milo Yiannopoulos from speaking.

They are enemies of free speech, it seems. Ben Shapiro is also one of their favorite enemies.

As usual, there is a part of the black community that will try to beg, steal and freeload from any funding. The concept of the black students movement doing something for themselves is alien to them, which is why many are noisy irrelevant noise, unheard, eventually disappearing into the nothingness that they are.

To tell the truth, with all due respect, even many people from Africa itself would be shocked speechless at the state of the black community in the United States. In some parts of Africa, there is much less of the gang violence and crime that is in American cities, their people are actually deeply conservative.

I used to know a guy from Eritrea who had a degree in mathematics and was working on a masters in Electrical Engineering. He once said to me “Don’t confuse their culture (i.e. African Americans) with mine.”

It is remarkable how different the two communities are, it is like they are worlds apart. Most cities in Sub-Saharan Africa at least are nothing like Harlem or Detroit, to say the least.

I think if no change is forthcoming in this country, then one will move forward and progress while the other will still cling to the bitterness of a dead past.

I have a better idea, no more government monies. And and decent parent should refuse to help pay for their child if that is where they want to go. Stop feeding monster, the monster will die.

The fascists BSU is following the Marxist communist ideals to the letter. Only when they are enslaved under a totalitarian government will they wake up and ask conservative to save them. Only when they are forced to live in their 54sq. m (495 sq. ft.)apartment, their wages are paid by the government as it sees fit to pay. There will be no 6 figure incomes, only low 5 figures or lower as everyone is paid by their skills set.

When the insane leftists are put to task to quantify why the Republicans should lose funding it’s, they “have violated a lot of, like, lead center rules during like free speech week,” and all that. Not one specific rule stated they have broken, just blanket statements. You’d think being at one of the ‘leading’ universties in the country, at least students would have learned to articulate specific reasons to back up their arguments. Instead, it’s ‘just because.’ Worse than kindergartners.

Any job recruiter should be very careful about hiring anyone who went to Berkeley.

I’m glad I never went there.

Your logowould be very popular there, ha ha ha. Incidentally, blacks were never enslaved under the cross of St andrew, but, instead, the Stars and Bars and the Stars and Stripes.

Wow. Berkeley college has really degenerated over time. It is now less than worthless and diplomas from that schools are best used as toilet paper.

Looks like reverse racism to me! Free speech is free speech! Not what these idiots say it is. Boy if you don’t agree with the Left they will make your life a nightmare. God forbid your pro-life, pro-guns, pro-military and pro-America! They’ll have none of it. Makes me sad to see where our country is headed. Thank God for President Trump trying to do the right thing. He’s not only our president he’s also a patriot!

Student “government”? Is this a joke? Try taking classes that will provide an education for getting a job. It is not their job to hate democracy and free speech. DO NOT hire anyone from Berkeley.
