Migrant Camps Force ‘Grand Paris’ Race Organisers to Cancel Event

CHRISTOPHE ARCHAMBAULT/AFP/Getty ImagesOrganisers have had to cancel the “Grand Paris” ten-kilometre run because the makeshift migrant camps that have sprung up along the banks of the Saint-Denis canal have made the route impossible to safely navigate.
The organisers of the event, which sees participants race from the Place de la République, along the Canal Saint-Martin to La Villette, and finally to the Stade de France, cancelled the race because they claim they could find no other route that would avoid the migrant camps, Le Parisien reports.
Story continues below advertisementA statement, which was released this week by the organisers, said: “These makeshift camps are growing and expanding day by day. According to the most recent estimates, in the coming weeks, they will bring together more than 2,500 refugees.”
The statement added that it was “unthinkable to cross these camps. The passage is impossible and it is humanly difficult to run a race in the middle of a refugee camp.”
The race, which saw 6,500 participants in 2017, was scheduled to take place on May 13th with those who already paid to register for the event being told they can either get a refund or put the money toward next year’s race.
Over the last several weeks, the makeshift migrant camps in Paris have dramatically expanded with some estimating that up to 550 new migrants arrive in the French capital every week.
Makeshift migrant camps have existed in Paris since the height of the migrant crisis, often moving to other locations after being cleared by French police as was the case with the camp that emerged by the Stalingrad metro station in 2016.
The cancellation of the Grand Paris race is not the first time the makeshift camps have had an effect on the area around them. Last November, the Art Ludique museum, located near the Gare D’Austerlitz train station, was forced to close its doors because a nearby migrant camp scared away potential visitors.

I believe it’s an easy mistake for outsiders to make when observing the shenanigans going on in the French capital to regard what they’re seeing as evidence of a kock up, I believe with a committed Marxist wrecker like Anne Hidalgo in charge it’s quite deliberate, she’s like all “progressive Socialists”, she’s “rubbing the rights nose in diversity” i.e.wealthy local property owners, and that stance involves continued strikes at the cities public profile intended to undermine its international reputation abroad.
This of course will increase economic hardship in local businesses as people and tourists with cash to spend avoid areas she refuses to cleanse of the third world filth squatting there, this will also justify not less socialism but more because of the increase in crime, disorder and “vulnerable” people suffering, i.e. her immigrants.
As several cities elsewhere in Europe as well as places like Chicago in the US can testify, electing socialists to run local affairs means bigger bills, more crime and more economic decline. Socialist are political locusts.

Don’t cancel it, move it to any one of other cities, like mogadishu. karachi, damascus , beirut, cairo or mecca just to name a few. Hardly anyone on the streets there, lots of room.

“refugee” camp? looks more like an occupying army’s summer campaign field HQ. the french in the 1950’s threw the muslims into the seine while the gendarmes looked on. their grandchildren cower in fear of muslims.

I am so happy it is happening in Paris. This is what you get when you let these people who are so different into your country. As soon as they arrive they let you know that they are nothing but invaders and that what they do is a total destruction of your country. But I believe that the Europeans will never learn that, not in Britain or the Netherlands or in Belgium or in Scandinavia.

France needs to deport all the foreigners they probably fear they will protest in opposition well that is when they can arrest them and next stop jail before return to their land of origin if they refuse they get sent to some camp in Syria! We demand solutions not jokes and wisecracks!
