Canada’s political parties betray Israel to obtain Muslim voters

Last week, Israel was defending itself against the brutal terrorist organization Hamas. Hamas organized a violent demonstration and forced Israel into actions of self-defence. 40,000 Hamas supporters participated in violent demonstrations against Israel. The “Palestinian” demonstrators used Molotov cocktails, bombs, guns, butcher knives, and meat cleavers, in their attempt to breach Israel’s security fence. The demonstrators set hundreds of tires ablaze, knowing that the smoke would obstruct the visibility of the IDF. “Palestinian” terrorists would then enter Israeli territory and indiscriminately butcher Israeli citizens. Hamas admitted their desire to kill Israeli citizens openly. Despite the despicable tactics of Hamas, the civilian casualties were incredibly low. 62 “Palestinians” were killed. Of the 62 who were killed, 50 were members of Hamas, and 2 were members of Islamic Jihad. Israel once again took unprecedented actions to prevent civilian casualties. No other military in the world can come close to matching Israel’s ability to minimize causalities among the civilian population of its enemy.

As Israel expected the anti-Semites at the United Nations and European Union condemned Israel relentlessly. However, one country’s response likely stung deeply. That country is Canada. For close to four decades, Israel could always count on support from Canada’s Prime Ministers, regardless of which political party was in power. In the 1980’s, Conservative Prime Ministers Joe Clark and Brian Mulroney were strong supporters of Israel. In the 90’s and early 2000’s, the Liberal Party Prime Ministers Jean Chretien and Paul Martin had warm relations with Israel as well. Canada-Israel relations reached new heights under Prime Minister Stephen Harper, beginning in 2006. Stephen Harper’s pro-Israel policies have made him beloved in Israel.

In 2015, Justin Trudeau was elected Prime Minister of Canada. Trudeau received close to 70 percent of the Muslim vote. As a result, Trudeau’s betrayal of Israel this week should not come as a surprise. Canada’s Muslim population (particularly in Ontario and Quebec) is vitally important to Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party maintaining their majority. This week, Prime Minister Trudeau instructed his ambassador in Israel to boycott the opening ceremony of the U.S embassy in Jerusalem. Trudeau also called for an independent probe against Israel for what he termed the use of “excessive force” in the Gaza shootings. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was so incensed by Trudeau’s statement that he personally called the Canadian Prime Minister to reject the request.

Trudeau’s Liberal Party was not alone. Canada’s other radical left-wing party is the New Democratic Party, aka the NDP. The leader of the NDP is Jagmeet Singh. Like fellow radical Justin Trudeau, Singh is soft on jihad. Like the Liberal Party, the NDP is aggressively courting Canadian Muslims for votes. The NDP’s courtship of Muslim voters will often result in NDP members slandering Israel and supporting the BDS Movement. Singh’s statement on the Gaza crisis was appalling. Singh stated: “The use of live ammunition against the protestors and resulting deaths are clear violations of international law and human rights.” Singh would later go on to admonish Prime Minister Trudeau for being “shamefully silent on recent developments in Gaza.” In other words, Singh did not believe that Trudeau had trashed Israel vehemently enough.

Canada’s fourth largest political party is the Green Party of Canada. The Green Party of Canada has been vicious to Israel. The party leadership supports economic boycotts of Israel, despite Israel being perhaps the most environmentally conscious country on the planet. The party also supports the “Palestinian” right of return. Predictably, the Green Party came down hard on Israel during the Gaza crisis. In the party’s statement, Israel was blood-libeled, and was accused of “targeting civilian protestors.”

The Conservative Party of Canada remains a strong friend of Israel. Unfortunately, the Conservative Party leader Andrew Sheer will face an uphill challenge in 2019, since he will face three radical left-wing parties.

“Canadian officials react to the violence in Gaza,” by Michael Fraiman, Canadian Jewish News, May 15, 2018:

After Israeli military forces killed dozens of protesters in Gaza on May 14, Canadian Jewish groups and politicians were quick to weigh in.

The violence began when tens of thousands of Palestinians rushed the Gaza border fence, some with flaming kites and explosives. Israel Defence Forces killed more than 50 Palestinians and injured more than 2,700, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry, marking the most violent and fatal day for Palestinians since the 2014 Gaza war.The hostilities broke out on the same day that the United States government officially opened its embassy in Jerusalem, a move spearheaded by President Donald Trump to coincide with Israel’s 70th anniversary.

“Big day for Israel,” Trump tweeted. “Congratulations!”

The Canadian government, however, refrained from commenting too strongly on either the protests or the embassy move in the immediate aftermath of the events.

The lone comment came from Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland, who wrote on Twitter that she was “deeply concerned by violence in Gaza Strip,” calling the deaths of children, journalists and civilians “inexcusable.”

“All parties to the conflict have a responsibility to ensure civilians are protected,” she added.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded with a statement on Wednesday, specifically mentioning the Canadian-Palestinian doctor Tarek Loubani, who was shot by Israeli forces in the skirmish.

“Canada deplores and is gravely concerned by the violence in the Gaza Strip that has led to a tragic loss of life and injured countless people,” the prime minister said.

“We are doing everything we can to assist Dr. Loubani and his family, and to determine how a Canadian citizen came to be injured. We are engaging with Israeli officials to get to the bottom of these events.”

Freeland’s vague response, and Trudeau’s immediate silence, angered many on the political left, including the New Democratic Party.

In a statement, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh was adamant in his condemnation of Israel’s handling of the situation and critical of the Canadian government’s muted response.

“The use of live ammunition against protestors and resulting deaths are clear violations of international law and human rights,” he said.

“Our government has been shamefully silent on recent developments in Gaza, and the prime minister should condemn the violence, call on Israel to cease violations of international law and support an independent investigation into these deaths.”…
