AmazonSmile offers charitable donations only for leftists

19

My group the American Freedom Defense Initiative, although it is a registered 501c3 organization, is banned from AmazonSmile. So is Jihad Watch, another 501c3 organization. The Alliance for Defending Freedom has been banned from AmazonSmile as well. Amazon clearly only considers Leftist charitable organizations to be charitable organizations at all. This is all part of the ongoing attempt to drive all those who dissent from the far-left agenda entirely out of the public square.

“Amazon a Prime Suspect in Charity War,” FRC, May 4, 2018:

The Southern Poverty Law Center was too intolerant for the U.S. Army. Too controversial for the FBI. And too inflammatory for the Obama Justice Department. But despite SPLC’s baggage, the extremists seem to have found a home at one of America’s biggest companies: Amazon. Turns out, you can get almost anything at the online retailer, except — conservatives are finding out — tolerance.

Story continues below advertisement

At a time when even the mainstream media is questioning SPLC, Amazon is rushing to embrace the “hate labeling” that inspired Floyd Corkins to walk into our lobby with the goal of killing as many people as possible. Now, a year after the shooting of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), who is also branded an extremist on SPLC’s website, most people are shocked that anyone – let alone Amazon — would use the radical organization as a resource. Yet now, when shoppers try to donate to Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) through the AmazonSmile program, they can’t. Why? Because, according to the company, “haters” aren’t allowed to participate.

ADF’s supporters, who’ve been using the program for five years, were shocked. After all, ADF isn’t some marginal, far-Right nonprofit, but a respected legal organization that’s argued — and won — several cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. But despite the fact that ADF’s been a part of the program since 2013, a spokesman said the company had reconsidered its involvement. When ADF inquired, they were told: “The AmazonSmile Participation Agreement states that certain categories of organizations are not eligible to participate in AmazonSmile. We rely on the Southern Poverty Law Center to determine which charities are in certain ineligible categories. You have been excluded from the AmazonSmile program because the Southern Poverty Law Center lists Alliance Defending Freedom in an ineligible category.”

Of course, the policy change isn’t surprising when you consider the politics of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. The billionaire and his wife dumped $2.5 million into a same-sex marriage effort in Washington State — the largest LGBT advocacy gift ever given. If Bezos wants to start policing haters, that’s his business. But relying on SPLC to define them, a group that Politico calls “more of a partisan progressive hit operation than a civil rights watchdog,” then Amazon is making a major mistake.

After all, SPLC’s Mark Potok has been clear that the organization’s real mission has nothing to do with tolerance. “Sometimes the press will describe us as monitoring hate crimes and so on…. I want to say plainly that our aim in life is to destroy these groups, to completely destroy them.” And, what’s worse, SPLC is quite open about the fact that their labels are completely arbitrary. “Our criteria for a ‘hate group,’ first of all, have nothing to do with criminality or violence… It’s strictly ideological.” At least for now, any pretense of SPLC’s credibility is gone — and not just with its conservative targets, but with liberals, Muslims, secularists, even journalists…..

Not giving a cent to internet charities especially those run by commercial interests. If a person wants to donate they can do so in person, it is not necessary to hire an intermediary to skim the donations.

I quit donating to the United Way after I learned the head took in over $400,000 in salary and benefits each year. That’s not a charity, it’s also scam for the people running it. And it’s one of the better run organizations with slightly less than 15% of its income going to salaries and fund raising. Heck, at https://unitedwaynca.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/United-Way-NCA-2016-990.pdf, you can see the one running United Way for the capital area made $467,000 in 2016, and her COO made $265,000 that year. And that’s only one small area in which United Way operates.

According to liberals, that’s a salary that should make someone in business embarrassed.

Most alleged charities are scams, they use most of the money collected for administration with a very small amount actually given to any form of charity. If a person feels like being chartable, then do so to someone, do not pay a contractor to skim your donation in the process of giving a little bit to where they say it is going.

That is why I no longer give to charities, there are things I can do as an individual that at least make me feel like I am not being used by corporate interests.

How much is enough? You do far more than what could be reasonably expected, it is time to pass on the torch. If the worker is not given their wages, then the boss is not worthy of their work.

If everyone did a little, no one would have to do a lot, you have worked long in the “vineyard” . Time to let others have a turn.

This is not exactly true. For example, Jay Sekulow’s American Center for Law and Justice is an option for donations, and they are a conservative group that is very vocal about exposing the actions of the left.

Good point, but all that means is that the SPLC has not labeled Sekulow’s organization a “hate group”. They probably know Sekulow would sue them for slander, defamation, etc. if they did that and he would have a good case as long as he could show that (1) the designation was false, biased, and/or arbitrary and (2) their income dropped as a result of their designation.

Of course those already on the list for nefarious reasons now have the same opportunity since, while it is difficult for long-time listees to prove they would have higher donations were the designation removed, it will be easy to show differences in income coming from the Amazon program before and after they began using the SPLC list. Note that Amazon would also be a target in such a lawsuit since by their actions they share the blame for the damages to the innocent participants.

Of course many organizations cannot risk the legal expenses for a lawsuit that is not a sure thing, which is why some smart lawyer should organize a class action suit on behalf of all the victims jointly — a solution with the obvious advantage of the cumulative effect of many SPLC horror stories told in court. In addition, the cumulative damage to the SPLC’s undeserved assets and reputation would be a public service to all freedom-loving Americans.

I understand that. I was commenting on the sensationalist and untrue title of the article.

EVERY time I make a purchase on Amazon a small part of their proceeds go to Gates of Vienna. I put together my cart so that it’s ready for checkout then I open the GoV website and click on the icon of Stephen Coughlin’s book which takes me right back to Amazon where I proceed with checkout. Any book icon along the left of the page will do the same, but the Coughlin book is red and easy to see. My cost is the same but by linking to Amazon and making a purchase the good folks at GoV receive a gratuity from Amazon.

And I should add that I buy a load of stuff on Amazon. There’s only two places I spend more I think, the grocery store and the liquor store.

I actually think you can choose your own charity for AmazonSmile purchases, even one that is not listed, but I’m not sure how that works.

Almost unbelievable ! Do all these billionaires live in the same bubble, they are all extreme left wing. How is it possible that such smart people are just not smart enough to know that the SPLC is not a charity that help poverty in any way, they just go after donations and bank the money for their (their being the few that run the place) own personal wealth !
People can really be stupid !
