Washington, D.C., politicos, trying to get out the Democratic vote for the 2020 elections, may lower the voting age in the city to 16.
D.C. Council Member Charles Allen, a Democrat, introduced a piece of legislation just a few days ago that would lower the legal age to vote to 16 for both federal and local elections.
This is pure Democratic plotting; the city in all elections leans left. On top of that, teens are typically Democratic thinkers — in large part, because they don’t have to deal in dollars and cents, in the realities of life, in work and taxes.

They can afford to fantasize about money growing on trees.

The typical sixteen-year-old in America works, drives and may even be responsible for caring for younger siblings or family members, so why can’t they vote? More than one politician in D.C. thinks they should be able to.
D.C. council member Charles Allen (D-Ward 6) introduced legislation on April 10th that would lower the voting age to 16 in the 2020 federal and local elections. Allen said he was inspired by the high schoolers leading the March For Our Lives initiative, and seven of 13 D.C. council members support the legislation.
18-year-old high school senior Alisha Chopra told USA Today that this could be the beginning of a major change. “I think people are getting excited about this, especially with what’s going on in the nation right now in terms of youth leading social change,” Chopra said. “So I think that people are going to be very excited about it and want to get on board.”
The Parkland survivors have already been credited with changing certain gun laws in Florida. Their advocacy efforts led to the Florida legislature raising the minimum age for gun purchases to 21, restricting bump gun stocks that allow for rapid fire succession, and extending the waiting period for all gun purchases.
The last time the voting age was lowered in the United States was in 1971 during the Vietnam War, when students argued that if an 18-year-old could be drafted they should be allowed to vote.
In 2013, 16 and 17-year-olds in Takoma Park, Maryland were allowed to vote in the municipal election. However the District of Columbia is considered a state in many ways, and as a result can lower the voting age to allow teens to vote for the president of the United States.
There will be a public hearing in June and then an official vote on the legislation before the end of the year. We can’t wait to see how this turns out!

If you can’t own a gun till you’re 21 you shouldn’t be voting either. EVERYONE knows 16 years old and at least half have no fathers due to lieberalism and can be considered free votes for Demoncraps due to the lieberal phenomena of FATHERLESS MORONS.

I would say RAISE the voting age to AT LEAST 26. Two reasons: a) Nancy Pelosi’s infamously citing that age as the cutoff point up to which young people could still be covered by their parents’ insurance, and b) The fact that the human brain does not become fully formed until that age. The factor of mass indoctrination and radicalization of our youth is also another factor in this. People so inculcated are more likely to vote for statists like Obama, Hillary, Sanders, Warren and the other reprobates in the party of not only treason, but also debauchery, debasement, degeneracy, decadence and perversion. Oh yeah, and of Peter Pan – the party that won’t grow up.

Of course the Republicans won’t do anything to counter this. They’ll just complain as usual and let the Dems walk all over them and whine when the Repubs won’t be able to win any elections again.

The GOP RINOs’ hatred of Trump makes one wonder if they’d rather be in that situation of not being able to win elections again, than to counter this and not only work to defeat this insidious initiative, but actually work to REPEAL and ABOLISH the 26th Amendment.

Kids have had free stuff all of their lives because of parents or guardians. Free food, free health, free shelter, free laundry cleaning, free clothes, free entertainment, free bicycles, even in some cases a free car. All they know is free. So a 16 year is going to vote for more of that free stuff. And free stuff comes from democrats (because it’s not their money).

The problem is with teenagers and millennials is that most of them are far too easily influenced by the liberal mainstream media. They view the President as more of a world threat than Islamic terror, for example.

Only US Congress can lower age to vote in Federal elections! !8 is the magic number. So, if Washington D.C. allows votes by underage voters in Federal elections, NO votes from Washington D.C should be accepted in Federal elections!

I would allow them to vote starting from the nursery school. Whoever is already out of the diapers would be ready to vote. Illinois already allowed marijuana in the grammar schools. So voting shouldn’t be a problem. Sniff some pot and go to vote. And later we’ll start learning the alphabet. Toys”R Us is going out of business. So it can provide the cheap plastic voting machines for the toddlers.

I believe the Congress, who oversees the D.C. City Council, will have a say so in whether the voting age can be lowered regardless of what the voters in D.C. want.

Great idea. Sixteen year olds should no longer be considered a dependent, pursuant to IRC. Moreover, they should be responsible for their own health insurance, as how can they be covered by a “dependent” rate on group or individual policies? Parents would no longer be required to support them and they should all be tried as an adult; whether it be criminal, tort, or civil matters. Full blown adult status. Ending public school age, at sixteen, might lower my property taxes a tad. Good move, I’m “all in”.

That needs to be changed immediately. If they are eligible voters, they are adults that should be responsible for their own upkeep and welfare. If they want to be adults, they should be held to the same standards as adults.
