Trump orders strikes in Syria: US, France, Britain launch targeted strikes

I am not quite sure on whose behalf we are launching these strikes. ISIS? To engage Iran?

There is no way Assad gassed his people. To what end? To rile up the West? It makes no sense. He won, he is in place, why gas now?

US, France, Britain launch strikes on Syria: Trump

Yahoo News, April 13, 2018:

Washington (United States) (AFP) – The United States, Britain and France launched punitive military strikes against Bashar al-Assad’s Syrian regime in response to its latest alleged chemical weapons atrocity, President Donald Trump announced Friday.

Shortly after Trump began a White House address to announce the action, large explosions were heard in the Syrian capital Damascus, signalling a new chapter in a brutal seven-year-old civil war.

“A short time ago, I ordered the United States armed forces to launch precision strikes on targets associated with the chemical weapons capabilities of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad,” Trump said in a primetime televised speech to the nation.

“A combined operation with the armed forces of France and the United Kingdom is now under way. We thank them both. This massacre was a significant escalation in a pattern of chemical weapons use by that very terrible regime.”

A US official said the strikes had targeted chemical production facilities. Another official said multiple types of bombs were used, and a variety of targets chosen.

Trump also warned Russia and Iran not to stand by their ally in Damascus.

“Russia must decide if it will continue down this dark path or if it will join with civilized nations as a force for stability and peace,” he argued.

The strikes had been expected since harrowing footage surfaced of the aftermath of the alleged toxic gas attack in the Damascus suburb of Douma, which took place a week ago, and Trump reacted in an emotional tweet.

“Many dead, including women and children, in mindless CHEMICAL attack in Syria,” he declared.

“President Putin, Russia and Iran are responsible for backing Animal Assad. Big price to pay.”

Trump’s anger and apparent determination was quickly matched by France’s President Emmanuel Macron, who signed his country up for a joint response.

Britain’s Prime Minister Theresa May was more cautious, but by the time the first precision cruise missile was launched, Trump had a mini-coalition.

May said there was “no practicable alternative” to the use of force against Assad.

Trump’s language was more brutal: “They are crimes of a monster.”

– ‘Proof’ –

In the six days between the attack and the US-led response, Washington and Moscow clashed repeatedly in duelling press statements and US debates.

Moscow denied its ally Assad had any role in the outrage, pushing a variety of alternative theories that peaked with a claim that Britain had staged the event.

More practically, at the United Nations, Russia’s diplomats vetoed a US motion to re-establish an international investigation into chemical weapons use in Syria that could have established blame.

Washington, Paris and London have nevertheless insisted that their own secret intelligence points to Assad’s guilt, and on Friday, a US spokeswoman said they had “proof.”

The western leaders apparently found this convincing enough reason to launch a punitive strike, but other observers are concerned that the crisis could escalate.

Largest Syrian-American group hails Trump after military action
By Amy Lieu | Fox News

The nation’s oldest and largest advocacy group for Syrian Americans said Friday that it applauded President Donald Trump’s decision to take military action in Syria and enforce international law prohibiting the use of chemical weapons.

“We send our sincere thanks to the administration for holding [Syrian leader Bashar] Assad accountable for Sunday’s chemical attack in Douma, and the crimes against humanity over the past seven years of the Syrian war,” the Washington-based Syrian American Council (SAC) said in a statement.

The US needs to stay out of the middle east except for defending Israel and it needs to keep the middle east out of America. Assad isn’t the problem, the culture is, a culture dominated by the evil of Islam. The culture is the problem , a culture created by the people who are motivated by the hate planted in their hearts by islam. From the perspective of Americans there are no good guys in the middle east, this includes Syria. The only thing America ever accomplishes in the middle east is to replace one monster with another.

Wouldn’t ISIS and Al Qaida appreciate these air strikes? After all, aren’t they Syria’s main opponents in the “civil war” in Syria?
I don’t care who kills whom in Syria anymore, AFAIC it’s a case of the SS vs. the SA or Iran vs. Iraq and I’d rather have them eliminate each other.

If we don’t eliminate the chemical weapons infrastructure in Syria, after quelling all dissent in Syria, Assad will try to be an Islamic hero and use those weapons on Israel. Now is the time to stop him, not after sarin is wafting down the streets of Tel Aviv or Haifa. Tyrants are only stopped by force. We should all be grateful for Charles Martel stopping the Islamic invasion of Europe – by force.

Bad move from USA, G.B. and France that bombed Syria. Who gave permission to do that? What elements did they have available to say that the gas attack in the Goutha was carried out by Assad? The Syrians have regained control of the Goutha fighting against terrorists: What purpose did they have to use chlorine when the final battle was won? We saw the scenes prepared by the White Helmets, flanking the terrorists, to pretend a chemical attack to which the Western powers believed. Why was a serious investigation not done to see if the gas was actually used or was it all a staging?

Nikki Haley had already announced back in June that any chemical attacks would be immediately attributed to Assad. No questions asked. I take that as giving permission and cover to our alleged “moderate militants,” otherwise known as al-Qaeda in Syria. It makes me sick.

Trump has probably come to the conclusion that Assad didn’t do it and that if it indeed happened then ISIS/al Nusra/al Qaeda/White Helmets did it, as anyone who has given any thought at all to it did days ago.

Trump had to go through with it, having been so dogmatic before, to climb down now would be unthinkable. But the strikes were precisely chosen for maximum propaganda value and minimum risk of collateral, particularly regarding Russia. May of course, though seemingly having received wiser councils and has become a little less dogmatic, owed Trump and Macron over the Salisbury poisonings, so committed a pathetically small contribution compared to America’s massive fire power. Macron similarly.

The truth is unlikely to come out in my lifetime (I am 78) but when it does the gullible politicians will be far removed from any meaningful criticism since by then they may well be dead too.

Exclusive: Syria empties its air bases, Hizballah withdraws to Lebanon
Apr 13, 2018 @ 21:35

By Friday night, the Syrian air force had finished evacuating its air bases in readiness for a US led operation, DEBKAfile’s exclusive military sources report. The Mig-29 and Sokhoi 24 air squadrons, Syria’s main air strike force, were moved to Bassel Assad International airport in Latkia and Damascus international airport. Fighter-bomber planes and helicopters were removed to the Nayrab air base outside Aleppo. All three airfields are guarded by Russian and Syrian air defense missile systems. Also Friday, Hizballah began pulling its combatants out of Syria and returning them to their bases in Lebanon – not just to keep them safe from a US raid, but to have them in position in case of a clash with Israel in Lebanon.

Nikki Haley: The Trump administration’s three goals before quitting Syria
Apr 15, 2018 @ 21:42

US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said Sunday that the Trump administration has three goals before pulling US troops out of Syria:
– To stop the use of chemical weapons,
– to totally defeat ISIS and
– to contain the Iranian presence.
– Interviewed on the Fox Sunday program, she stressed that the US has no intention of getting involved in the Syrian civil war and its troops would leave once those goals were achieved.

Why murder his own people? Because he can. Plus, there apparently was no downside to murdering and terrorizing his own people if they are disloyal in order to assert himself and prove his power. Somebody has to set him straight if only to neutralize his chemical stockpile and prevent him from monitizing his capacities. The cowards on the Left wouldn’t dare risk antagonizing the Russians and Iran, so yes, Assad was provoking the West in addition to proving his ruthlessness as a tyrant to his own people. Makes sense to me.

He was on the verge of wiping isis out of his country so why would he take such a stupid risk?
And who would really give a fk if a jihadi district was Chen attacked anyway? There are far more deaths of innocent women and children worthy to avenge than that.

Is the world on Assad’s back as you claim? Not that I can see. The leftwing media is busy fear mongering about Russian reaction and rightwingers are fussing in confusion over the mission, as if this action means Trump wants further involvement. He doesn’t. I see more people attacking Trump than Assad right here on this site.

Honestly I don’t understand why conservatives are so weak in their understanding and support of Trump. Assad was gambling that with US public opinion so united against President Trump and all the scandals, he would be afraid to risk striking back. Fortunately we have a President who thinks through problems and acts appropriately, regardless of political correctness and the endless attacks from his own people.

I already explained my reasoning so I suggest you reread my comment. If it doesn’t convince you, oh well. Yes, ISIS has been defeated (no thanks to Assad) which is why Assad is emboldened to brutally enforce his power against any Syrian rebel forces which still remain against him. Tyrants and vicious dictators can’t and don’t ever relax their tyranny. They don’t maintain power out of a general sense of goodwill, but rather out of fear.

Chemical attacks against innocent people should not be ignored by the civilized west. Chemical weapons have been banned since WW1! If Molotov cocktails and toxic tire burnings are considered offensive, I tend to think murdering innocent people is worse. Bolton is definitely a war monger… he is a concern… .Syria must take their own country back! We have no national interest there nor can we be the traffic cop of the world.

I don’t want our troops in an escalating situation in Syria however murdering innocent people with chemical weapons has to stop! We don’t want to be like Obama with “red lines” in the sand that are laughed at. We do as a nation represent civility. It’s a tough call. France, the U.K. and the U.S. did the targeted strikes. Ironically Germany supplies chemical weapons to Iran…

There is a “national” Intrest in Syria.
Experts belief that in the Persian Gulf is the biggest gas-field on earth. And there are two plans for two routs to send this gas into Europe.
One rout is from Iran – Irak – Syria into Europe.
The other rout is Quatar – Saudy Arabia – Syria – Turkey into Europe.
If the second rout is built it´s a big blow against Russian economy because Russia is a main gas-supplier for Europe. In both plans Syria is a key-country.
Russia needs for economic survive influence in this region and the Western world want´s influence there to break Russian economy.

For years the Russians blackmailed Ukraine with stoping gas-supplying also Poland and at the end Europe.
May be there is a gas-pipeline from Syria into Russia ( why not, even communists know the value of resources ).
May be it´s GOD´s way to show us that at the end greed is a deadly sin and if the humans don´t change their ways we all lose.

German philosopher Nietzsche have say´d in the 1930´s ( yes there was a time when German has had great people ) that the time for national goverment is over. Now we enter a time where the main powers are struggling for world domination.
Hitler started the struggle for Germans place in the world. Only the shock of the holocaust and the fear of nuclear-weapons have give us a time of “peace” ( this “peace was called cold war ).
May be humans are to stupid or to cowardly to survive. If one side shows a will for peace, the other side see it as weekness and start to punch the peaceful. Peaceful people are forced to punch back only for the reason that evil people don´t rule everything.
Christianity is a nice believe but at the end to naive. I think the sentence in the ( so called ) AT is far better: “If someone stands up to kill you stand up and kill him first” – and I think the best proof is the Christian pope in the Vatican. His “sheeps” get slaughterd and he wash the feet of membesr of a idiology who slaughter his “sheeps”.
And Musels ? – also betrayed by their “religion”. Slaughter, slaughter and kill the” infidels” – forget humanity in the name of Islam.
Obamas team was also full with bankster´s who get rich with puting workers under the bus ( I guess it´s the term Americans use ).
Trump is willing to fight. He sure is nor a saint but he is better then every other we have had.
And we need a fighter otherwise we can convert into Islam or get a communistic membership.

Your interpretation of what Christianity is in error. When Jesus said, ” Turn the other cheek,” it means” I dare you to hit me on this one too.” The 1st commandment is ” Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.” Before Him is within His line of vision, which is everywhere.

Es werde Licht

Come on, the term ” Thou shall have no other GOD before me” was dictated ca. 2400 years before Jesus.
Isn´t it writen that you should make no picture or statue of GOD ? But what do I see ? Christians knees in the church in front of a wooden statue.
Wasn`t Jesus asked how many times a human have to turn his cheek to the enemy ? 7 x 77 times ? Yeah, then I know who win ( ok, not in your sence ).
“GOD on a cross” – yes that´s what the ( evil ) humans wants, and Jesus was satisfying their wish.
I believe that GOD makes lot´s of compromise because he knows the nature of humans, but I don´t believe that HE let humans spit on him, beat him, treated like the last sh*t.

I understand exactly where you’re coming from. To the last, when the Passion of the Christ came out it would have been the time to say that one needs to be worthy of that sacrifice, but that didn’t happen because of corruption in the church, which is overwhelming. Most would put him back up on the cross as an instigator of trouble and confusion today. That being said, just because humans are stupid doesn’t change that He is who He is, and He’s done what He’s done.

Changing GOD´s law so that the innocent have to suffer for the guilty one ? Sorry but I dont think that´´s fair and it´s also stupid.

Changed God’s Law? No, that is some man made ideas that have become mainstream, along with many other stupid ideas.
The people who lived before Jesus were visited by him when he departed the cross and went into hell, chained up satan, and preached to them. This is standard Christian doctrine. Don’t know who is telling these other things to you, but they are wholly misinformed, a common thing. There is so much stupidity in the churches they aren’t to be trusted, and that is not your fault. Don’t let their limitations and inabilities become your own.

Naja, when GOD said “If someone stands up to kill you stand up and kill him first” or when GOD send a flood that wipes every humans exept Noah and his family from the earth that sounds a little bit different to “the Innocent suffers for the guilty one” or that he let the humans spit on him or “if beaten show your offender the other cheek”.
Have he changed his mind, did he regret his “cruelity” ?
Oh Jesus chained Satan – must be the reason why abortion is normal now, why even satanic groups want a status as a religion and that under the covering of “good” evilness is rising.

– strong evidence that attack on Douma civilians used WMD gasses
– WMD gasses are heavier than air and settle on low ground
– most deaths happened in low ground and basements,
– signs and symptoms of chlorine / sarin poisoning, no other wounds /injuries

I cannot and will not believe that Assad has blatantly used nerve gas. If he had used it, it would ONLY have been on isis troops but strangely enough it is ALWAYS on civilians. Rather suspicious IMO as why upset(further) the leftist MSM by so doing and thus invite retaliation from the blindly naïve? isis has NO ethics when it comes to war like ALL muslim armies and sacrificing civilians for a propaganda coup is NOTHING to them if it gains more leftist lunatic support. Seriously, forget the media and just think about it overall. why would Assad do it? And please no rubbish about “because he can” as he has ruled effectively for ages and is no fool.
