Kentucky: 101st Airborne chaplains accused of dismantling on-post programs for Jewish soldiers

53

Why did this happen? Why were none of the representatives of other religions fired, but only the Jews? Could the 101st Airborne Division be anxious not to offend Muslim soldiers, and so is trying to keep the Jews out of sight? What possible benign explanation could there be for this? The 101st Airborne Division needs to reinstate the Jewish services immediately, with an apology, and stop harassing these Jewish lay leaders with absurd demands that they change the date of Passover, etc. And there needs to be a full and honest investigation into why this happened in the first place.

“Army investigates 101st Airborne chaplains accused of dismantling on-post programs for Jewish soldiers, by Kyle Rempfer, Army Times, April 28, 2018 (thanks to Dale):

Chaplains in the 101st Airborne Division have fired the longstanding Jewish lay leaders at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, allegedly without providing any reason, effectively ending Friday night Shabbat services for Jewish soldiers and their families.

Story continues below advertisement

The two ranking chaplains also refused to support the Jews’ attempts to celebrate Passover on March 30, the first night of the eight-day long religious celebration, allegedly because it conflicted with Christians’ Good Friday observances and would save money during the installation’s four-day holiday.

Jeanette Mize, her husband, Curt, and son, Lawrence, served as lay leaders for Jewish worship on the installation for nearly two decades. On Feb. 28, the three were allegedly fired without cause under the direction of the division chaplain, Col. John Murphy, and his deputy chaplain, Lt. Col. Sean Wead.

She added that her family has “faithfully provided weekly Shabbat and yearly religious worship events since 1999,” and they have worshiped at Fort Campbell since 1984.

Mize contacted Mikey Weinstein, founder and president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, who lodged a complaint with base officials. Weinstein subsequently spoke by phone with Col. Brett Sylvia, the division’s chief of staff, who is currently deployed with the headquarters to Afghanistan.

Robert Jenkins, Fort Campbell’s director of public affairs, said the post is now investigating the allegations. He would not put Army Times in touch with the chaplains in question while that investigation is proceeding.

“Fort Campbell is committed to maintaining and improving the exceptional support we strive to offer all of our chapel communities,” Jenkins said. “We make every effort to ensure all soldiers, family members and civilians have the opportunity to exercise their religious rights. Further comment as this is examined is not appropriate.”

But Weinstein said he was informed on Friday morning that the inquiry had become a 15-6 investigation. That type of inquiry hints at the severity of the allegations and how seriously the Army is taking them, according to Weinstein.

“About 10 percent of the cases I file with the Army become 15-6 investigations,” he said.

Mize and her family have never been paid for the services they provide for the roughly 80 members of the Jewish community on Fort Campbell.

“There is no synagogue in the Fort Campbell area or the nearest towns of Hopkinsville or Clarksville,” she said. “The nearest synagogue is located in Nashville, more than 50 miles away.”

Mize added that other religious groups at Fort Campbell could actually worship nearby, “outside the gate,” but there is still worship at Fort Campbell for these organizations.

At the meeting in which she was terminated, two subordinate chaplains did not give her a reason for her dismissal, and would only say they appreciated her service of many years, according to Mize.

“I asked him what he ‘appreciated,’ since he and [the other chaplain] had never been to a worship event, even though I had invited them for High Holy Days and Shabbat,” she said.

One of the chaplains told her he had been busy with a Catholic event and that another Christian Army chaplain reported back to him.

When Mize said that chaplain has never attended a religious worship service, he responded that “it would compromise his religion to attend,” according to Mize.

“They had to celebrate Passover on a non-Passover date,” Weinstein said. “That’s like telling Christians ‘I know you want to do Christmas on Dec. 25, but it’s more convenient if you do it on Dec. 7, so we can save money.’ ”

Mize said she was told that if the Jewish community still wanted to hold a Passover event on the proper night, there would be no advertising or support for it….

Something WEIRD is going on!

Why did Paul Ryan have a Catholic Chaplain FIRED?

Some Republicans grill Ryan over House chaplain firing

One of the members who brought up concerns was New York Republican Rep. Pete King, who said afterward that Ryan’s explanation for asking the Rev. Pat Conroy, a Jesuit priest, to resign was “unsatisfactory.” Both King and Ryan are Catholic.

“To me it was an unsatisfactory answer,” King said. “It is such an unprecedented action to be to only be taken for very, very serious issues. And the speaker said it was just because certain people said he was not complying with their request or was not giving good counsel. I never heard that from anyone. Anyone who I know who deals with him has the highest regard for him.”

Jesuits close to Conroy told CNN that Ryan’s office asked Conroy to come by the speaker’s office around the Easter recess. Conroy was told he was being asked to resign but not told why. It was kind of a “thanks for your service, Padre” kind of conversation, Jesuits close to Conroy described to CNN.

The sources said Conroy was particularly perplexed because he has made strong friendships with Republicans in his seven years as chaplain and genuinely does try to stay out of politics.

Just a few days before he was asked to resign, he told Catholics in California that he is “in the one job in the US where I absolutely have to abstain from politics!”

Conroy resigned April 15 after he spent nearly seven years praying at the outset of House sessions. He wrote two versions of his resignation letters, which were both obtained by CNN by a congressional source. In the first letter, he writes that Ryan should consult with his chief of staff on a resignation date, but the second letter stated his last day would be May 24.

The muslims are trying to eradicate all religions except their own cult. The problem is, they are using other religions to do their dirty work. What Christians fail to realize is that Christianity is based in the Jewish faith. Most Christian sects read the Old Testament, which is the Jewish Bible. Jesus himself was a Jew.

Remember, if we allow and condone the eradication/denunciation of the Jews, eventually, said eradication/denunciation will fall upon us.

If nothing else, this shows the hypocrisy of the mainstream religious leaders. Most of their faith is based on the Bible, and they have added the New Testament to it, which is the part they follow. Christians are idol worshipers and disregard the Bible and the First Commandment.
But they are hypocrites about it, as they recognize a construction, but not its foundation.

On target, Cassandra. They also have never read, “I will bless them who bless thee, and curse him who curses thee.” These “Chaplains” need to retake Bible 101. When I served, we had Chaplains of all faiths……….of course, in those “Old” days, we did not have the “Special” muzzies to worry about. Our Commanding General, our Battalion Commander and many other officers would attend Catholic, Protestant and Jewish services. Sent a great message.

Jews are “riff-raff” because they aren’t conforming to the theocracy Evangelicals want? My father fought the Nazis in Europe; I am glad he didn’t live to see them in the Army he served in.

Muslims are superior as they murder people all over the world from New York, Boston, Mumbai, Israel, Florida, Belgium and France.

When the Muslim population of any country grows the violence begins. The Muslims start with the Jews but don’t end with the Jews.

Across the formerly Buddhist majority countries of Indonesia and Malaysia the muslums didn’t have any Jews to kill/persecute so they went after the Buddhists right off the bat.

Somehow I doubt Muslims would be told to alter their religious calendar. I wonder why the chaplain feels being invited to attend a Jewish service would “compromise his religion”? If he is a Christian, Jesus, a Jew, celebrated, and as a rabbi, led worship. Would this chaplain turn down a Muslim so-called interfaith event?

Christians make exceptions to Jews because of Christianity’s roots in Judaism. While many Jews may not feel a kinship to Christians the reverse is typically not true. Frankly though when it comes to Easter and Christmas there is a CLASH that needs to be respected and worked out. I can’t imagine going to a Passover celebration instead of an Easter service. Differences need to be respected.

As a Christian I would NEVER attend a Muslim service.
We do NOT share the same GOD! I totally disagree with his interfaith crap! Religions have their DIFFERENCES and that needs to be RESPECTED.

Under Obama, he had Imans leading services for Christians in the military. He has done his best to immerse, Islam in our military. It was appalling.

I think there can be different religious observations without there being an actual clash. Many Christians actually do celebrate Passover seders. This chaplain’s claim of a contradiction, however, suggests questionable knowledge of either religion. I think his statement is more indicative of someone who has been successfully indoctrinated by the Muslim propaganda effort, or dawa.

The Jewish lay leaders simply wanted to observe First Night, which was March 30. That would be from sundown the 30th, to sundown the 31st. Normally, the first two nights are observed, formally with a seder. The second night may have interfered with Easter services. However, first night would have interfered with Good Friday. The observance of Good Friday, need not be held after sunset. So, as far as First Night goes, it need not have interfered with Good Friday services. I’ve attended many Good Friday services that were held in the afternoon.
Viewing things, from that perspective, a compromise could have easily been met … Good Friday services, followed by First Night seder … Second night is not nearly as important, and I am certain that the Mizes would have understood.
I’ll give heavy odds, that if there was one moslem, serving at Ft. Campbell, they wouldn’t have dared to change any moslem date.

I wonder if muslum appeasement is behind this. I believe it was the 101st Airborne that had a muslum soldier frag members of his own platoon while they slept.

I served as a Jewish Lay Leader during my entire army service. I had ecclesiastic certification from The Jewish Welfare Board. The Lay Leaders at Fort Campbell should be paid for their service. Only active duty personnel serve as volunteers.
The majority of my time and effort as a Lay Leader was spent confronting the leadership, from drill seargents to The Commanding General, whenever a Jewish soldier was denied equal access to the free exercise of our religious faith. Army regulations are very clear, yet drill seargents frequently assigned individual duty to Jewish soldiers during the sabbath.
Sometimes the batallion chaplains failed to intervene on behalf of the soldiers, but in all cases involving basic training and advanced individual training soldiers, those 18 year old new recruits were understandably afraid to complain. I proactively contacted all new Jewish personnel each week when the personnel roster was updated. This was the only way to help new recruits.
As a Judge Advocate it was very easy for me to solve the problem. I can not imagine any of the chaplains that I worked with preventing a seder on the correct date. Something is very strange about this situation at Fort Campbell. When terrorism at Fort Hood is characterized as “workplace violence”, we should be very concerned about the command guidance that may have influenced the chaplains to violate the rights of all active duty Jewish soldiers at Fort Campbell.

This is a disgrace that stinks to the very heavens. An alleged Christian leader persecuting Jews. That is enough to make a decent person puke. Get rid of those heretics immediately, in disgrace, then bring back the Jews and get some real Christians to replace the sell outs to either islam or the democrats. Do not let this happen again.

I’m all for saving money. Since Orthodox Easter differs from Roman Catholic and most Protestant denomination’s Easter … split the difference. For example, 2018 .. you had Sunday April 1, and Saturday April 12th. Make Easter the sixth. The past Christmas was December 25 v January 7. Make Christmas New Year’s Day. Roomeeding (moslem holiday) could be shortened to two days … Say, July 4th and 5th. Combining it with Independence Day … lots of beer and brats, should go well for a two day fast. And, the list could go on. Let’s save some money.

There is something more behind this story. I have no idea as to what it is. Good Friday services are frequently held during daylight hours, early afternoon. That would not have disrupted First Night seder. And, First Night Seder would not have disturbed the Christians worshipping, in their own way. Something doesn’t seem right … and it may have to do with Jew hatred. Or, it may not.
