Meanwhile, Jews in France and elsewhere in Europe have stopped wearing kippot and other visible signs of their Jewish identity, because if they do, they will be attacked by Muslim migrants. Antisemitism is on the rise all over Europe, and with this policy the Anne Frank House — of all places — was aiding and abetting it.
It is good that they have abandoned this policy. That comes not a moment too soon.

Of all the places on earth, the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam prohibited its Jewish employees from wearing kippot. The outrageous policy was changed only recently after a local media outlet intervened.
It all began when Barry Vingerling, a 25-year-old Dutch Jew, began working at the museum. He told NIW, the local news website for Jews and Israelis in Holland, that a while after he began working there he started wearing a kippah, and was promptly asked by the museum directors to remove it.
The museum’s policy, Vingerling was told, was that religious symbols of any kind must be concealed from visitors to the museum (Dutch law applies to all public institutions in the country).
“I was stunned by the demand to take off the kippah,” Vingerling told NIW. “Here of all places, where Anne Frank was forced to hide because of her identity, I have to hide my Jewish identity?”
Vingerling said he reported the case to his superiors, who told him the matter was being addressed. An answer, however, never came. Meanwhile, at his request, Vingerling was promised that the museum’s board of directors would convene an official discussion on the matter in October 2017, but it has since been delayed until May 15.
Vingerling then turned to Rabbi Menno ten Brink, who serves on the museum’s advisory board. Brink’s answer, however, left him equally dumbfounded.
“He said there was no halachic problem with wearing a hat over a kippah, and suggested I wear the hats provided by the museum, which say ‘Anne Frank House,'” he said.
Vingerling said he understands the policy pertaining to public places in Holland, but believes the Anne Frank House is not the right place to insist on it.
“It was explained to me that the policy is to allow for as many people as possible to visit the Anne Frank House, and therefore any expression of religion or politics are undesirable there. With that, I have a hard time understanding how the museum for Anne Frank, who was Jewish, which demonstrates the consequences of prejudice and intolerance, behaves in the same manner.”
On April 2, NIW contacted the Anne Frank House for a response, as well as the Anne Frank Foundation in Basel, Switzerland.
One foundation official told NIW that any policy forbidding the wearing of kippot at the Anne Frank House was unacceptable. From there, matters began to snowball quickly. The board of directors meeting to discuss the matter, originally postponed to May 15, was rescheduled for the next day, April 3, after which a foundation representative told Vingerling that the board had decided to allow him to wear a kippah at work.
“It may have taken six months, but this was very important to me,” Vingerling said. “This isn’t only about my fight with the board of directors; it’s something the entire Jewish community needs to hear about.”…

i´m ashamed, ANNE FRANK HOUSE, of all places, i realy dont know what to say, i´m the 4th generation with Israel in my heart , started with my great grandmother, her daughter , my granny, my father, her son and me, i´m the last , because i chooce for no kids, thank God now in this world with , others , i did´t not asked for, , i´m 66 now and for the 1th time i say , happy with that , in this HORRIBLE UGLY WORLD. !! The Koran promises them nothing. Some hadith seem to say that they get to share their husbands with the houris and one hadith promised to one woman who picked lice from Mohammad’s hair that she would get a crown. There’s not that much material but some imams will extrapulate from the material that is there and promise them whatever will get them to go through with the mission. Also, some are blackmailed and shamed into committing suicide.

not only they don’t learn anything (or refuse to do so) , most teachers public schools in the Netherlands refuse to talk about the Holocaust for fear of “offending islamic sentiments,” and those who do teach about it come in harm’s way because of extremely angry muslim parents’ protests and threats.
Perhaps teaching of the shoah would be more effective if instead of talking about the six million Jewish victims, they could concentrate on ONE child’s destiny, a child of the same age. Stalin was right after all when he said “One victim (with a face and a name) is a tragedy, millions of victims is just statistics…”

Yes, the problem is that genocide has been reduced to statistics and faceless multitudes. Like you say, making it personal would base more value as a teaching tool. Another problem is the very stupid western response to muslim violence, if it was not tolerated there would be much less of it.

I generally agree with your comment, but I believe the problem that is represented by the Islamic belief system, which promotes and preaches violent conduct against non-Muslims, and death to the Jews, will soon begin to happen here in the states. I have long said that homes which carry the religious symbol of the Mezuzah, a Jewish religious object placed at the sides of entrance doors, and which is merely a Jewish prayer for peace and for good health and happiness for the residents of the home, will become the kind of identification that the extreme believers of Islam will use to choose their victims. as they now do with respect to the wearing of the traditional head cover that are worn by those of Jewish persuasion. I know that most people of the Islamic faith are not violent, and I know people of that faith who are good and loving, but what is evident to all of us who recognize that the teachings within this belief system is supported by sardonic beliefs that promote violent and vicious conduct against non-Muslims and especially against Jews, leaves me with the conclusion that as their belief system presently reads and is practiced, which is used by the extremists to commit acts of violence, I, for one, sincerely believe that these believers will never be able to live harmoniously here in the U.S.A. and that we need to keep them out. Sad conclusion, I know. Not bigoted, but rather realistic and self protecting conclusions for the residents of our great country..

I had a friend in Naval Intelligence in Turkey back in th ‘60s who predicted what is happening now. He said the Muslim puts religion before friendships or anything else, and will do what they are told. One day you’re having a meal together in friendship and the next they will kill you, if the imam tells them too.

The Anne Frank house/museum has bullet-proof glass on the first floor above ground level. As an extra precaution, there are folding shutters to deflect bomb blasts. In the picture, he is wearing a New York Yankees baseball cap. It’s probably safer to wear the KIPPAH under the baseball hat.
