Ohio Man Sentenced for Providing Material Support to Terrorists

Story continues below advertisementAbdirahman Sheik Mohamud was a seemingly aimless young man. He had dropped out of high school, worked intermittent jobs, and spent time hanging out with friends and playing basketball in Columbus, Ohio.
Yet Mohamud, now 26, did have a sinister goal for his life—to go to Syria and train to become a terrorist with the al-Nusrah Front, a group designated by the U.S. State Department as a foreign terrorist organization. And then he planned to return to the United States to conduct an attack on American soil.
But thanks to the multi-agency efforts of an FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force operating out of the FBI’s Cincinnati Division, the attack never happened.
With an older brother already fighting in Syria, Mohamud—a naturalized U.S. citizen—used an Internet messaging service to coordinate a trip to Syria to join him in combat. Mohamud opened a bank account to collect funds for his brother, got a U.S. passport, bought a one-way ticket to Athens, Greece (with a layover in Istanbul, Turkey), and purchased an Internet-accessible tablet to take with him to the battlefield.
On April 8, 2014, weeks after he’d received his passport, Mohamud boarded his Athens-bound flight. But instead of getting on his connecting flight in Istanbul, he worked with individuals aligned with al-Nusrah who eventually helped get him into Syria.
Once in Syria, he trained with al-Nusrah on weapons, combat tactics, and general fitness. He also began researching potential plots for when he returned to the United States. Mohamud gave money to someone affiliated with al-Nusrah to give to his brother.

Ingrid Schmidt, special agent, FBI CincinnatiIn June 2014, Mohamud’s brother was killed while fighting in Syria. Just a few days later, Mohamud returned to the United States and began attempting to recruit like-minded individuals and gather weapons. His goal was to kill U.S.-based troops or government employees, according to court documents.
“One of the greatest threats is when a person who has been trained by an overseas terror group comes back to the United States,” said Special Agent Stephen Flowers, who investigated the case as part of the FBI Cincinnati’s Joint Terrorism Task Force. “He aligned himself with a group that presents a great risk to us domestically.”
Investigators also knew that Mohamud kept in touch with those al-Nusrah-aligned individuals who helped get him into Syria, even after he returned to Ohio.
During an interview with the FBI in February 2015, he lied, telling agents he had never left Istanbul and had not gone to Syria. He was arrested shortly thereafter.
Last year, Mohamud pleaded guilty to providing material support to a terrorist organization and to making false statements to the FBI. In January, he was sentenced to 22 years in federal prison.
“A case like this is the reason I joined the FBI—to protect Americans so they can live their lives safely,” said Special Agent Ingrid Schmidt, who also worked on the investigation. “Knowing that somebody who wanted to do harm to the U.S. is off the streets and can no longer do those things … it feels good to play a role in the bigger mission of the FBI.”

With the US permanently under threat from Islamic terrorism since 9/11, and decades before, I would like to think that the government would have had second thoughts about the wisdom of ‘naturalising’ people with names like Abdirahman Sheik Mohamud into US citizens. But it continues, although less now than under multiculturalism-obsessed Obama.

Columbus Ohio has the second largest Somali population (Minneapolis is #1).
Indigenous citizens did not vote on the relocation of Muslim savages & terrorists to Ohio & elsewhere. NGOs, religious organizations, and the State Department brought them to affordable cities with factories, universities and blue collar jobs. Columbus has a large African-American population as well. Obama’s administration gave housing vouchers to migrants and those in section 8 apartments. Now they can supplement their welfare benefits with housing vouchers to live in middle class neighborhoods throughout the United States. In Westerville & Grove City, many homeowners are selling their properties because too many Somalians are moving in and not taking care of their front yards and homes as nicely as the local residents. Neighborhoods are becoming ghetto thanks to the influx of Somalians. No doubt the FBI is watching Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland and other cities very closely since 911.

I have never been to Columbus Ohio but I have trouble visualizing this there. I have seen video of Dearborn Michigan. Sounds like Columbus is turning into a violent ghetto.
Good news though – with Ben Carson heading up that stuff, there will be changes, Often under Section 8 housing the GOVERNMENT will pay MORE RENT than what the local market calls for. Who is surprised that they don’t take care of anything? They will trash the place. They don’t care.

An added outrage is that US taxpayers will now spend the next 22 years paying the costs of keeping in prison a savage who should never have been allowed into the country in the first place, let alone be given citizenship.

Obama has a zip code database. He purposely deposited them all over the U.S.. Governors objected but that didn’t matter. I forget the law but there is a law where the FEDERAL government can do an end run around the state and governor and deposit these people wherever they want.

You in the US thank your lucky stars that you got rid of your moslem loving POS POTUS for someone who doesn’t kiss the moslem arses. You could have someone like our Canadian Prime Mistake one Justine TurdDoper who’s only qualification for the position was his infamous last name and a nice hairdo but nothing of worth under it but air. Our PM want’s to accept those Canadians who went overseas to join ISIS back with open arms and use poetry, podcasts and other similar SJW methods to deprogram them. Sadly he doesn’t understand that to deprogram them they’d have to give up their entire religion because that’s what makes them the terrorists they are. ISIS was just following the example of their false prophet a prophet from Satan not god who was supposed to be the ideal moslem.
