Democratic Congressman Hints At Armed Rebellion Against Trump

109

A congressman in New York suggested that if Democrats wanted to stop the conservative agenda being pushed by the White House, then attacking President Donald Trump was the way to go.

This is unbelievable. Could you imagine a Republican making this same suggestion against, say, Barack Obama?

Secret Service wouldn’t been all over the speaker — not to mention the mainstream media.

Story continues below advertisement

Here’s what happened, from New York Magazine:

In pursuit of the ever-popular Beltway sport of False Equivalence, it’s common to see today’s left-bent resistance to Donald Trump compared to right-wing extremist movements of the recent past, from the tea party movement to precincts further off in the fever swamps. This sort of talk is often the product of laziness or malice. But now and then something happens that makes left-right parallels unavoidable and accurate. One such incident, surprisingly, comes from the loose lips of a member of Congress, New York’s Tom Suozzi. According to the New York Post, the Nassau County Democrat had this to say about the remedies available to deal with Donald J. Trump during a town hall meeting last week:

“It’s really a matter of putting public pressure on the president,” Suozzi said in a newly released video of the March 12 talk in Huntington. “This is where the Second Amendment comes in, quite frankly, because you know, what if the president was to ignore the courts? What would you do? What would we do?”

A listener then blurts out, “What’s the Second Amendment?”

The left-leaning Democrat says, “The Second Amendment is the right to bear arms.

First time I read about this, I thought maybe Suozzi was joking. Apparently not.

Suozzi political adviser Kim Devlin denied the pol was “advocating for an armed insurrection.”

But the Suozzi campaign at the same time seemed to double down on the comments, as they forwarded a line penned by Thomas Jefferson that called for armed resistance.

“What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms,” the quote said.

The idea that the Second Amendment is intended to preserve the right of the people to undertake a violent revolution against some present or future “tyrannical” government is dangerously common on the political right. It’s usually articulated by those who oppose any firearm regulations whatsoever. But at a deeper level, the availability of “Second Amendment remedies” is the foundation stone of the militia movement, and represents a not-very-subtle threat from anti-democratic (not to mention anti-Democratic) activists of all sorts that there are rights — ranging from property rights to the so-called right to life of the unborn — that no popular majority will be allowed to violate perpetually without provoking righteous violence.

This Second Amendment–based right of revolution was embraced by 2016 Republican presidential candidates Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, and Mike Huckabee.

This sort of loose talk has largely been accepted as part of conventional conservative politics, though Donald Trump did raise some eyebrows during the 2016 general election by hinting that he might share it:

Repeating his contention that Mrs. Clinton wanted to abolish the right to bear arms, Mr. Trump warned at a rally here that it would be “a horrible day” if Mrs. Clinton were elected and got to appoint a tiebreaking Supreme Court justice.

“If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks,” Mr. Trump said, as the crowd began to boo. He quickly added: “Although the Second Amendment people — maybe there is, I don’t know.”

So Suozzi is in some pretty strange company in adopting the Second Amendment remedies meme, including, perhaps, the man whose threats to the Constitution apparently pushed him in this direction in the first place.

I’m sure Suozzi will issue a “clarification” before the sun sets tonight. But his remarks should serve as an opportunity for left-of-center folk to swear off similar thinking once and for all. There are few things more frightening than the possibility that participants in today’s hyperpolarized partisan politics will all get into the habit of threatening to take up shooting irons to redress the imperfections of our political system. Progressives would be well-advised to leave this sort of extremist reasoning to the gun nuts and the wing nuts.

Most tend to forget that. But the recompense for their slaughter will be, someday, felt universally within this nation which legalized their bloodshed.

The Scriptures are crystal clear about that (as it was throughout the history of Israel and Judah who also, routinely, shed innocent blood). Nations reap what they sow: The biblical principle of reciprocity.

As the West turned it’s collective backs on God, they increasingly embraced humanism along with many ungodly practices. I would often wonder how much more would/could God tolerate before His cup became full and He would declare ” enough “. I think 2nd Thessalonians chapter 2 gives good insight to todays madness, it’s only a few paragraphs but well worth the read. The US retains a core faith and I believe that’s why that murderer isn’t in the oval office and why Trump is. God has used him to get some things done ( Jerusalem ) and isn’t finished with him yet.
In Canada, the Left has dominated for a while – we have no abortion restrictions at all and all cost are covered by the taxpayers, and any political candidate dare not bring his/her faith into the open, unless it’s humanism, lest they be shredded by the press. Our PM here, Trudeau, has shamefully used tax money ( 600 million ) to fund abortions abroad after Trump cut such funding. He is actively controlling the media and is bringing in legislation to prosecute ” islamophobia “,effectively taking away our freedom of speech.
Europe, the UK, Canada – are we all just getting what we deserve or is a much bigger part of Gods’ timetable at play and all of this madness is just a part of it. A case could be made for either but with the recent fulfillment of some more biblical prophecies ( Rev.12 ) and what the whole Jerusalem as capital might mean, I’m leaning towards the bigger picture.
As far as what is happening in and to US society, the breakdown at so many levels, in so many core institutions, has been so brilliantly covert that it has gone unnoticed for the most part and has only recently reared its ugly head. The division between left and right, black and white, white and everything bad, the poor and the rich – is nothing new but the intensity is. America is ripping itself apart with the aid of all that is Left and her tipping point is closer than many think

As a retired pastor (more than 46 years in the ministry) I cannot disagree with anything you said. I’ve warned about the judgment of God facing America and the West to predominately deaf ears.

You, as a student of Scripture, clearly understand what most don’t.

This small window of opportunity God has granted America, through the miraculous election of Donald Trump, is merely a brief reprieve to offer individuals/our nation time to repent and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation.

Unfortunately, most are straying further and further away from God. We now live in a post-Christian era to our own detriment.

In the early 80’s (while teaching prophecy) people would ask why America is not mentioned among the landscape of nations at the end times. I couldn’t answer with any degree of certainty then. But I surely know now.

Judeo-Christian civilization faces His judgment unless we soon repent.

” This small window of opportunity God has granted America ” – every night I give thanks to God for exactly that and pray that many would come to Christ. It is as you have stated, a ” brief reprieve “, and I believe He has done this for the sake of the remnant that still honour Him and His Word.
Americas’ inner war drums are sadly beating louder and louder, a standoff seems inevitable. A world without an America or even just a fractured one, and a Europe, UK and Canada under Islamic domination, are all very unpleasant thoughts, yet it is that direction that we appear to be going.
God has judged the world before. Are we entering His final judgement ? I could see the muslem world soon rising up in rage against Israel for the whole capital issue, and the subsequent level of violence necessitating the annexation of the rest of Jerusalem. If that were to happen, what would restrain the Temple builders any longer and in short order after that, the restitution of the daily sacrifice. Not only would this fulfill even more prophecies but it would open the door to the final chapter. I am not saying this is going to happen, even though we both know that that Day is coming. I am only offering this as a possible scenario which seems to fit the almost inexplicable things we see happening world wide. The only consolation I find these days are in His words and we need to remind ourselves and others to ” fear not for He has overcome the world “. Be well brother and God bless.

“Turn to the Lord Jesus Christ for Salvation”? What I see as possibly a bigger problem, is saved people turning their back on God, & living their lives as bad or worse than the unsaved.
One need only to look at what God did to Israel when they turned their back on Him.

Thank you Pastor. In my life, June ’73 certainly was a time to remember. I got saved travelling across country and remained “unchurched” for quite a few years, but with the Holy Spirit tugging at my heart.
When my life really changed was in ’98 when I gave my life to Him completely, & how wonderful it’s been since then, as no one can out give God, & I pray every morning that he will order my day, that it be prosperous, & that I do all according to His will.
It’s still a daily battle against the flesh though, like with the anger & frustration I sometimes feel when I see the news etc. about what’s going on around the World & here in America, & I pray that my emotions/passions not lead me to sin against Him in the posts I write on blogs like this.
If I told people, the unsaved, as well as Christians that don’t walk with Him, the miracles He’s done & still does in my life, they wouldn’t believe me.
I’m reminded of II Chron 16:9 where Gods Word says “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole Earth, to show Himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect before Him.”
Not that I’m “perfect” in the way the word’s used today, but in a Biblical sense, when my sins are confessed, & I’m striving to do His will in all things.
It’s a joy to find a “kindred spirit” such as yourself here on this blog, and I pray that He will also continue to bless & protect you, your family and your ministry.
Please add me to your prayer list.

Wow. Just horrible. It is impossible to truly foresee how a civil war in America would unravel. But I can tell you, it would not be pretty for anyone. There would be pocket vigilante groups everywhere. Riots. Mass exterminations. There is no limit of depth of depravity when it comes to a vengeful heart. I pray that the left does not resort to insurrection. They would be fools to do so. And the right would be fools to return fire. When the dust settles, the right MUST remain RIGHTEOUS.

Come on! Trump said the same veiled threat against Hillary. I don’t like it when either side does it; but the extreme ire over this wayward loony comment when a Dem does it, from people who didn’t bat an eyelash when Trump did it, strikes me as highly hypocritical, unprincipled, and opportunistic.

Politicians from both sides have been known to be all those things. But it doesn’t help raise the level of debate on the real issues, to say the least.

You’re asking for proof? The Trump quote I’m referring to is cited in full, right there in the article in Ms. Geller’s newsletter:

“This sort of loose talk has largely been accepted as part of
conventional conservative politics, though Donald Trump did raise some eyebrows during the 2016 general election by hinting that he might share it:

Repeating his contention that Mrs. Clinton wanted to abolish the right to bear arms, Mr. Trump warned at a rally here that it would be “a horrible day” if Mrs. Clinton were elected and got to appoint a tiebreaking Supreme Court justice.

“If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks,” Mr. Trump said, as the crowd began to boo. He quickly added: “Although the Second Amendment people — maybe there is, I don’t know.”

So Suozzi is in some pretty strange company in adopting the Second
Amendment remedies meme, including, perhaps, the man whose threats to
the Constitution apparently pushed him in this direction in the first place.”

Now, sir: if all you’re quibbling about is that “Although the Second Amendment people — maybe there is, I don’t know.” does not use exactly the same words verbatim that Suozzi did — I can’t argue with you, there, because you’re right. But if you are trying to argue that it didn’t have the same nuance and intent — as any reference to a “Second Amendment remedy” in relation to “taking out” an opposing politician necessarily does — then I can’t argue with you there, either, because that’s “not even wrong.” Meaning, we don’t even share the same understanding of what nuance is, in order to have a meaningful conversation about it.

But yes, that’s what I was referring to.

Samantha Power just threatened The President with unspecified action from intel agents for his tweet about Brennan. She has warned Trump several times, hinting at assassination.

I have a hunch if that happens it will be the first shot in a true civil war. It would also create a martyr and a rallying point…they would be destroying themselves.

In an armed conflict in this country between republicans and democrats, it would last about a week and republicans would run everything. Not sure how this guy is helping his cause with this.

This man is mentally ill and should be hospitalized. Any democrat who makes a similar statement is mentally ill, no rational person will ever make such a statement.

What a c*ck ass MORON.

If anything that should have had an ARMED rebellion was when your dear Negro sodomite and USURPER showed up at the White House January 2008 and promptly put his dirty gawdamn feet on the desk and proceeded to bark orders through his fatt lips.

He said “what if the courts failed in their duty, then 2/nd Amendment action”. Who would disagree on that? Cuz Trump? I say even Trump if corruption gets much worse. If FBI, CIA, Courts, open borders,Colleges, dangerous illegals–the swamp-

This is ridiculous and must be based on the utterings of a certifiable nut job. There are five million of us law abiding members of the NRA who own millions of weapons and billions of rounds of ammo. If we were really going to be a problem, don’t you think you would be aware of it by now?

The Second Amendment was written to address the tyranny of King George III of England, not for the convenience of deer hunters or armed insurrection. Its most common use now is self-defense.

Be safe, be trained, be alert.

Anyone notice the drop in price on AR type rifles. Also, the drop in price of bulk ammo. Seems like a good time to stock up. Molon Labe!

Does not apply because the presumption is by that point, the POTUS is acting outside of his authority. Treason and edition are also out for the same reason.

At some point, our freedom supersedes the government. If the people democratically elect a tyrant or govern in a tyrannical, un-Constitutional manner, it is up to us to protect our God-given rights. We can never concede our God given rights. The problem with the issue is that Trump is a Constitutional president. Speculations and fear mongering is given currency by the fake media, Demogogues, and radicals. Every action by the President has been rational, timely and appropriate. We are seeing insight that have totally eluded pundits from the right and left. The alligators and crocodiles occupying the DC swamps, that have been enriching themselves for decades at the public trough, rightly fear a reformer like Trump.
