UPDATED: Four people were seriously injured in two knife attacks in one district of the Austrian capital Vienna on Wednesday evening (March 7), but any motive or connection between the assaults was unclear, a police spokesman said.
The stabbings – the first of which took place at 7.45pm (2.45am on Thursday, Singapore time), occurred in Vienna’s Second District, which includes the famous Prater park as well as the Praterstern transport hub.
It also houses much of Vienna’s small Jewish community.
Story continues below advertisement“A man attacked a family – a father, a mother and their 17-year-old daughter – with a knife. The three people were seriously injured and their lives are in danger,” the spokesman said.
“And half an hour later there was another attack … at Praterstern and here a person was also seriously injured and their life is in danger. We do not know to what extent there is a connection here and any motive remains unclear,” he said.
Asked what was known about an assailant, he added: “Absolutely nothing. We know we are looking for a man.”
Vienna has not experienced deadly attacks by Islamist militant like the ones that have struck Paris, Berlin and Brussels since 2015.

A major manhunt is now underway along the long stretch of road in Vienna’s Leopoldstadt district where the attacks took place.

(VIENNA) — Austrian police said at least three people were injured in a knife attack Wednesday on the streets of Vienna, with the attacker possibly injuring a fourth nearby.
Vienna police said the attack happened at about 7:45 p.m. on Praterstrasse in the heart of Vienna.
“According to eyewitnesses a man has attacked three persons — a man, his wife and their adult daughter,” police spokesman Patrick Maierhofer told The Associated Press. “The three persons suffered heavy to life-threatening injuries and are currently in a hospital.”
A fourth person was attacked with a knife nearby shortly afterward, police said: “A link (between the attacks) is part of ongoing investigations.”
Witness Silvia Franke said she was about 100 meters (330 feet) away when the incident happened.
“I saw how someone in the middle of the street was screaming and shouting — I thought he was beating his dog judging from his hand movements,” she said. “And in reality he was stabbing this man.”
“He could have stabbed me as well had I been there by chance,” Franke said. “He had lost all control.”

Gee, no nearby citizens who were armed that could have taken out this POS. An armed attacker can stab three people in a huge city and no one saw where he went. No one followed him. No one tried to tackle him. No one tried to run him over with their car. Goodbye, Osterriech, you were once a really great country.

Let me understand the logic, there would be study after study to estimate the impact on a toad species due to road construction, but importing record amount of medieval spawn needs no environmental impact assessment whatsoever?

I don’t know about Chicago, but, in Cleveland, for Four Hundred US Yankee Greenback Dollars, you can score a fully automatic MAC10 …. I know that to be a fact. Of that $3400 to $4500 … Most of that is the FFL license, that goes with the firearm .. Must be pre-May, 1986. License follows the firearm … That’s why the huge expense.

You could be like the UK … Swords, even in one’s own home, are no longer legal. If you currently own one, you may keep it. However, you cannot sell it or even gift it (say father to son). The only knife that can be carried is a non-locking blade, of less than three inches. Seriously, even a lock blade knife, under three inches, is illegal to carry. You have to be 18 to purchase any type of knife, inclusive of kitchen cutlery. They’ll probably get around to adding screwdrivers to the list .. and raising the age, for purchase, to twenty-one.

Leaving Europe is not the answer AC, in my view all here have to shoulder this burden and fight it out now, with the hard Soros left, our governments and the muslim terrorists. People being seen running around in a panic on a video in muzz land, being driven like panicked chickens from their homes, businesses and countries just feeds the problem by feeding the terrorists the idea of their invincibility, they’re NOT invincible, if they can attack in a street so can we. If they can do what they do and end up getting three square a day while police protect them waiting for a fair trial, who wins and who looses ? Where is the incentive to stop it ?
Posturing about “peaceful Muslims” and “the rule of law” has not spared a single person from Islamic assault, two or thirty victims for one attack by one terrorist is a good “return” for their religious piety, we cannot afford it, the new rule has to be proactive prevention by whatever works to show those who need to be shown we’ve had enough.
Self defence is a right for anyone, especially in the face of such wicked duplicity shown to us by those charged with our protection and in authority.

It’s the police, courts, elected officials, bureaucrats, et al …. The moslem is treated like a national treasure “protected species”. In the US, even with the First Amendment, the government cannot really get involved .. but the “speech police” ban you, etc. If the government allowed human beings the same laxity, as it does moslems .. men would stand up and do what is righteous. However, when posting some cartoon .. lands a two year prison sentence, for some woman, in Sweden …. and six month sentences to moslems for raping little children …. What can be done?

This latest attack sickens me to the core, a family including a young girl attacked while peacefully waking together,
there must really be no quarter shown in a debate to any person trying to hide the reason for this and who try to hide who the responsible people are.
I hope to God the victims can be saved.
