Geller Report readers remember when then President Obama refused and rejected numerous proposals to retrieve lost U.S. drone.
On December 4, 2011, an American stealth drone was captured by Iranian forces near the city of Kashmar in northeastern Iran. The Iranian government announced that the UAV was brought down by its cyberwarfare unit which commandeered the aircraft and safely landed it. Meaning it wasn’t shot down, as earlier reported. President Obama acknowledged that the downed drone was his, and requested that Iran return it. We’re not kidding.

Iran’s Stealth Drone that Penetrated Israel’s Border a Gift from the Obama Administration

The Israeli Air Force on Saturday launched an attack on the Syrian Air Force’s Tiyas Military Airbase, a.k.a. T-4 Airbase, west of the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmor), destroying the main observation tower, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday night issued a statement saying, “I have been warning for some time about the dangers of Iran’s military entrenchment in Syria. Iran seeks to use Syrian territory to attack Israel for its professed goal of destroying Israel. This morning Iran brazenly violated Israel’s sovereignty. They dispatched an Iranian drone from Syrian territory into Israel. And this demonstrates that our warnings were 100% correct. Israel holds Iran and its Syrian hosts responsible for today’s aggression. We will continue to do whatever is necessary to protect our sovereignty and our security.”A crucial factor Netanyahu did not mention was the fact that Russia supports Israel’s enemies in this conflict, and that the US at this point is a dubious ally against Moscow. Take for instance the statement the White House released in response to Saturday’s clashes: “Israel is a staunch ally of the United States, and we support its right to defend itself from the Iranian-backed Syrian and militia forces in southern Syria. We call on Iran and its allies to cease provocative actions and work toward regional peace.”
Notice any country missing from the administration’s statement? The fact is Russia holds the key to restraining Iran in Syria, and this White House is not prepared to call it on its endorsement of the Tehran terrorists. Why, Trump two weeks ago refused to impose new sanctions on Russia that were voted almost unanimously by both houses of Congress. So, no help there in Netanyahu’s dealings with President Putin.
But there was another, much earlier damage that was inflicted on Israel’s chances in confronting Iran’s agents of chaos: the technological boom the Obama administration’s military handed the Iranians with the Lockheed Martin RQ-170 Sentinel incident. That was the drone the US gifted to the Iranians.
The Israeli Air Force on Saturday launched an attack on the Syrian Air Force’s Tiyas Military Airbase, a.k.a. T-4 Airbase, west of the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmor), destroying the main observation tower, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The Iranian drone that was sent to Israel on Saturday took off from T-4. It was shot down in the Beit Shean valley, after spending all of 90 seconds in Israel’s air space. As it was crossing into Israel, it was escorted by fighter jets and intercepted by a missile fired from an Apache helicopter.
The drone had Iranian components, its operating system is Iranian, and it was apparently dispatched without prior notice to the Syrian regime, according to IAF chief of staff Brig. Gen. Tomer Bar. “It was important to lay our hands on it, because this is the first time an Iranian aircraft crosses into Israeli territory,” he said.
According to Bar, the drone is an advanced aircraft with stealth abilities. “I think that this UAV signifies [Iran’s] technological progress, although in this case we dealt with it successfully,” he said, adding, “Everything will be learned, including their intentions.”
Several areas of concern emerged from Saturday’s short aerial war: the fact that an Israeli F-16’s deflection system was unable to avoid a dense barrage of some 25 S-300 Soviet-era anti-aircraft missiles, and, presumably, shrapnel from those missiles cut through; the fact that Iran today appears to be operating independently inside Syria; and the fact that Iran-proxy Shiite militias are so important to the Russians, serving as they do as gun fodder for the Russian army in its war against the Western-allied rebels, that Moscow is ready to endorse Iranian adventurism to secure their cooperation.
The fourth lesson from Saturday’s confrontation is that Iran has been able to take full advantage of the technological gift it received from the Obama Administration.

Turns out the Iranians refused to give it back. Instead, on December 10, 2011, Iran announced that it intended to carry out reverse engineering on the captured RQ-170 Sentinel stealth aircraft. In April 2012, they announced they had succeeded in extracting the entire data collected by the drone and were in the process of building a replica of the aircraft. US officials were doubtful Iran could replicate the aircraft, because of a precautions that was installed to protect malfunctioning drones, nevertheless, in May 2014, Iranian state TV displayed a reverse engineered RQ-170, and in November 2014 Iran said it carried out a successful test flight on the drone clone.
Naturally, the fact that the supposedly stealth Iranian drone was detected way ahead of its crossing into Israeli airspace should suggest it isn’t so stealthy after all. But the symbolism of the new round of confrontations with Iran, a terrorist state cuddled by the Obama administration centering on that abandoned Lockheed Martin RQ-170 Sentinel should not be lost on Israel’s leadership. Nor should the Trump administration’s reluctance to act tough with Russia in Syria.

I read somewhere that Russia had defeated our drone security and had captured one. I dismissed it believing our cyber-security to be vastly superior to Russia’s! Now I read this and folks, this isn’t good! I hope the US has the capability to “jam” enemy electronics! – Food for Though: Ambassador Stevens was in Libya to arrange the return of Stinger missiles that were given to Jihadis that were being armed by the US (HRC and BHO) to assure success of the Arab Spring!

Ask sailors of the USS Donald Cook about Russian electronic warfare capabilities. The Cook’s AEGIS system was shutdown twice on separate occasions, by a single Russian aircraft, leaving the Cook totally defenseless and a sitting duck in the water..

Thank republicans, most still in office today – for not impeaching Obama (the first black president).
To scared (as they are today) of holding a president accountable for his crimes and misdealers. Obama knew this of course. Even before he ran for the office and especially so those that groomed him and backed him for the office.

We can’t overlook that the Iranian, Valerie Jarret, along with, Hillary Clinton and John Kerry didn’t have a hand in aiding Iran with American sophisticated weaponry as well, like Obama was really wanting Iran to give the drone back to the U.S.! Also, we can’t forget about the stinger missiles that Obama and Hillary gave to Islamic terrorists through Benghazi, that’s why Hillary and Obama denied extra security for the ambassador and our military personnel after Hillary had departed, because they knew too much, after all, Hillary knows by experience dead people can’t talk. Seems like Iran also had the technology to disable the computer systems on U.S. Navy ship and held the crew captive under Obama’s watch and Obama didn’t do anything about it. I hope I get to see Obama and every member of his administration/regime held accountable for treason and prosecuted to the fullest, including the death penalty during my lifetime.

BTW, I met a Syrian Jewish couple at an ACT for America meeting, they weren’t at all happy about the “moderate”, “good” muslum meme being spewed at the meeting. The guy, who must have been 6’4″ tall and built like a sh!t brick house stated that “the only Arab that can be trusted is 3 meters underground.” No one dared to contradict him.

Though no direct criticism was leveled at Russia, a positive sign other things are afoot is that the Trump administration did not criticize Israel for protecting itself.

The Iranians did not capture the drone, it was given to Iran on a silver platter, just as Obama gave them the go head to build a nuclear bomb, $150 billion in small bills and freed five terrorist in exchange for an American Muslim traitor, Bergdahl. Good points. But it was an F-16, not -15. And it did not get “shot down;” it was damaged, and its crew (doubtless in contact with Israeli ground controllers and senior decisionmakers throughout) elected to eject and allow it to crash, once they were safely back over Israeli territory. It may seem trivial, but that’s a big difference.

I can’t believe some of the comments here. The article is quite clear what the real problem is: Trump and Russia.

Trump is deeply in hock to Russia and the Kremlin is squeezing Trump by the short hairs to let Russia do whatever the hell Russia wants. That’s the true message of this article. Thanks, Trump!

One drone was shot down. What would happen if Iran launched a hundred armed drones simultaneously from various points around Israel? Or two hundred?
Here’s a hint for you: drones are a lot cheaper to build and launch than manned fighter jets.

Of course! I’m troubled by Iran’s intrusion and predict it foreshadows much more focused attacks yet to come. And I applaud Israel’s response, as well as its training and capability — even though one of its jets got shot down, reports indicate the Iranian and Iranian-trained Syrian personnel manning those anti-aircraft missles launched some THREE DOZEN missiles at just this one plane, and even then, the plane was just damaged, not blown up, and managed to make it back over Israeli territory before its moderatly injured crew safely ejected and let it crash. Meanwhile, other Israeli jets, which returned unscathed, took out nearly 50% of Syria’s anti-aircraft defense installations. That is a HUGE plus for Israel! Yet, all anybody on either side seems to notice is that ONE of Israel’s jets was shot down. They are not magic, not invulnerable. Just really, really, good at what they do. Thank goodness!

The IAF’s highly trained pilots are more important than any F-16. Depending on how many AA missiles Hezbollah/Syria have three dozen might not be a problematic expenditure of anti-aircraft assets.

“I think that this UAV signifies [Iran’s] technological progress”. Iran’s progress is nothing more than copying the drone that Mobama dropped in their laps. Nothing more. It is like the Chinese advancement in rockets. That was a gift from the Clintons in exchange for campaign donations.
