Is it any wonder that Austria was Adolf Hitler’s country of birth?
Old (genocidal) habits die hard, and sometimes not at all.
Please note, that criticism of Islam, jihad and sharia is verboten, but Muslims calling for the wholesale slaughter of Jews? All clear. These Muslim protesters were chanting “Jews, remember Khaybar, the army of Muhammad is returning,” which is a warning that Muslims will kill Jews wholesale the way Muhammad massacred the Jews of the Khaybar oasis in Arabia.

But that was just fine with Austria authorities. Only the Israeli flag was out of bounds. Nazis and jihadists share common goals and supremacist dreams.

BERLIN – The Vienna police are pursuing criminal charges against three pro-Israel activists for waving an Israeli flag at a protest against the designation of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The police are seeking a 100 euro fine or two days in jail for the waving of the flag at the December 8 rally near the US embassy in the capital.
The criminal notice, dated January 3, states that the activists “showed an Israeli flag at a rally in an extremely provocative way and manner that was visible for participants at the rally and thereby produced considerable offense and provocation among the Palestinian protestors.”
The German-language edition of the news site Vice first reported on Tuesday on the penalties against the three men and conducted an interview with one of the pro-Israel protestors.
“My mother is Israeli, her family are refugees from Iraq and Libya. An Arab-speaking friend from Israel was able to translate some of the slogans yelled [at the rally], for example, the Arabic battle cry to massacre Jews, ‘Jews, remember Khaybar, the army of Muhammad is returning,’ and the Persian slogan ‘Death to Israel.”‘
The phrases are frequently used when attacking Jews and Israelis. Islamists chanted them on the Mavi Marmara Gaza flotilla ship in May 2010.
The activist, who was given the name Matthias F. by Vice to ostensibly protect his privacy, said he heard other chants of “Intifada” and “Child murderer Israel” at the rally, which was attended by hundreds of anti-Israel protestors.
He added that they “were shocked by these slogans and did not want to leave the slogans unchallenged. Antisemitism and hate of Israel should not be tolerated.”
Vice showed a copy of the police notice with the criminal penalties on its website. The notice said the pro-Israel activity was “especially reckless” which “disturbed the public order.”
The police, according to Matthias, made efforts to discourage the waving of the Israeli flag. The protestors were permitted to wave Palestinian and Turkish flags. The mean rolled out the Israeli flag and were quickly confronted by Palestinian demonstrators, who triggered a scuffle with the pro-Israeli activists, according to the Vice interview. The police confiscated the Israeli flag and took the down the personal identity information of the three men. The Palestinian attackers were allowed to return to the demonstration….

The fact that hitler approved of islam, did not mean he had it govern his germany. As islam is all encompassing control of the individual, government and religion he never would have allowed that much authority to anyone but himself.

To me, this action by the police is from a time now past, when a PC regime was in charge, after all, it was around that time that the President of Austria {Green} was sounding off against Israel and the emerging patriotic right there.
I forget who holds the “home Office” and Justice ministry there now, but there is a new right of centre populist government and how they support or crush this vexatious but insignificant police action will show the world whether Austria has learned the lesson of its past.

Except that those demonstrators were only arrested after they interrupted the parade. This is no different from someone interrupting a permitted event in the USA. Both are trespass.

The students were charged, according to the citation with having “behaved insensibly, violated public order and created a provocation.” This after the protesters had shouted death threats to Israel and bellowed the Khaybar chant, the inference of which you are probably aware. Can you explain how and why the law regards unveiling an Israeli flag in response to such provocation an interruption to a protest?

It’s not the waving of the Israeli flag that is the issue. It’s standing in the parade path to block the parade and causing a disruption that is the issue.

Which is obstruction, not behaving insensibly or creating a provocation if other protesters were able to move around them to carry on with their march. They did not choose to do so, they chose to violently confront the protesters such that a “scuffle” occurred – a situation which happens frequently at protests in which Antifa are involved and to which police intervene and separate the two factions, giving verbal warnings if necessary, but often without arrest. Were any such warnings given? I am not able to source any videos that show the full confrontation; I would be grateful if you could point me to some.

I remember Ms. Geller reported right here on a Coptic man arrested and imprisoned in Mubarak’s “moderate” Egyptistan for praising Israel in his public blog. Funny how Austria is becoming more like Egypt.

Not entirely. The new government is beginning to close off the welfare tap to the immigrants. The antisemitism issue does need to be dealt with of course but Austria is not alone in Europe with that particularly vicious strain of bigotry. Perhaps the Austrian National Student Union who recently passed a motion against BDS, the Austrian bank which shut down a BDS account and the WUK cultural centre which barred a BDS event are making a start.
